I don't think he was getting anything up - he was simply reporting what it said. How you TOOK that information is your own deal.

For those who ordered from buy.com, what status if your order?
Mime turned to "sent to warehouse" but I think its because I had to verify some CC info. Is "sent to warehouse" just the usual stage after placing any order?

So is nokia shipping it to all distributors on the 16th/19th or is it just amazon? I purchased mine from mobilecityonline and they still have an expected arrival date of November 5th
Also, gsmarena changed their release date for the N900 from October to November...not sure how reliable their sources are though

Actually I have now been told by Nokia USA on two separate occasions that Mid Oct is the date and earlier if they can possibly manage it. There was no hedging - it was two separate individuals and two separate days. I would be VERY surprised if we didnt see them before W3 of October.

Hey Bratag!
I remember you from the innocent early Android days. Funny how a great premise can be screwed up by poor app memory management and a big bottle neck known as the bite code java layer.
Really does look like Maemo is what Android should have been. Open and more efficient coding platform :)
I ordered mine through Amazon, so I am guessing that alone and free shipping equals "lucky to get by end of month".

Hey mate. Yeah android dropped the ball for me. It looks like they are going to try solve the issue by simply throwing more hardware at the problem. Not a good solution in my opinion. Add to that the fact that 1.6 broke stuff in my apps and Google cannot figure out WHY and WHAT changed in their own OS. I am very much OVER Android.

Kind of like Windows Vista ;). Compensate through hardware rather than efficient code.
People with current Android phones that do not have DSP in the chipsets will be let down by their current perceptions of Flash 10.1.
I have read enough to figure out that though more efficient, 10.1 is still a resource queen and needs the DSP assist to be smooth in regards to a full Flash experience.
Android overhead (bite' code, etc) will drag 10.1 to its knees.
Enough of that! When are we gettin' them thar' N900s? :D

http://www.shopblt.com/cgi-bin/shop/shop.cgi?action=enter&thispage=01100250U022_BCA1383P.shtml&order_id=!ORDERID!
Are now starting to be all on the map in regards to availability.
They used to have a shipping date of Oct. 19 for all warehouses, then went to Nov. 2nd for all of them and are now spaced out between October 22 and November 20, depending on warehouse.
I´ve also seen their order quantities more than double, so maybe the ETA date reflects the date when they will next have a deliverable device on hand. So that the one´s that already ordered might have dates earlier than the ones displayed there... Who knows.

These guys:
http://www.shopblt.com/cgi-bin/shop/shop.cgi?action=enter&thispage=01100250U022_BCA1383P.shtml&order_id=!ORDERID!
Who knows.
What great marketing strategy...change to an early ETA to receive an influx of preorders, then change it to another date

The finnish nokia online store stated in a finnish forum that they will get the first N900s (in the world? or finland) and they would get them week 44 (oct. 26 - 1 nov).
Just as i said before! Same with the Swedish nokia online site!:)

Maybe i am wrong. But when they use the words 'select markets' they mean all the places where it is available.
So if you were able to order the device, you are in the "select markets". If you were'nt able to order it in your country, you are not.
I think some dude talked about it not being available in brasil. So i guess brasil is one of the places which is not part of "select markets".
It sound scary i know, but that's all there is to it.

nope. "selected markets" -phrase hasn't been opened. so it is next to nothing for people thinking "am i living in selected markets coverage?"
it is official announcement and companies have strict rules for announcements. if they fail to do that, there will be (big) sanctions.
@unkno; that's some brilliant detective work, man...
..or it could be also be product launch delay.. which happens every so often in the industry..

Like I said in the other thread, a good sign to when we get the phone is when T-Mobile releases Project Black, if indeed they truly have the N900, which means either tomorrow or next Sunday if what all the info is saying turns out to be true. If the N900 is part of the project, and T-Mobile goes public with it, I would assume they would already have the product to sell, and it would definitely hurt them to say 'today is the day we go to #2 or #1 but btw you have to wait another four-five months to get the phone, have a great day':p

Between announcement of the G1 and actually shipping was almost 2 months. So I wouldnt find it unusual at all for them to announce the phone and not ship until late Nov. The plans etc may go live before that. I will definitely be taking the $50 all in option if they have it.

If there was no pre-order thing how wonderful would that be instead of waiting to ship we all wait for the buy now button to pop up, and bam hit that chareg the card and they ship it to you.
But thats only in words I ordered mine from amazon on the 16th still nothing.

I would like to clear things up for everyone: US phones will be available between oct.19-30 and europe and other countries november 19th thru the 30th. My reasoning is this
from WIki:It was launched at Nokia World on 2 September 2009 and was expected to be released on 27 September 2009 in the United States and on 19 October 2009 in 9 European countries
SO as you can see clearly US markets are getting it first, since most of the nov dec dates are coming from euro sources, i suspect i am right.

Is anyone finding it odd that they gave away pre-production n900's at the summit. A blog I visited said they will receive a pre-production unit in a few days. Doesn't that mean they haven't even started manufacturing the ones for the general public? I think it is going to be a while before they are out.
Laughing Man
10-11-2009, 03:33 PM
It might just be that they rather use existing n900s rather then grab a few fresh ones off the press (which would affect shipments..granted I can't imagine how much it would effect it)
zkyevolved
10-11-2009, 03:36 PM
The hardware is already 100% there, so pre-production probably means already produced and software still "buggy" (not made for mass market yet). In all their videos from the summit you can now see N900 on it, rather than N9XX :)

I do not. It's more than sensible to give the pre-production units (which in other case would be useless) and sell the 300 devices for end customers (I think they need every one of them to fill the need ;)).

That is true since the summit was a planned event and they must of hand to test the manufacturing line on a few hundred phone, why not give them out. I think I am just thinking about it to much. I hope they are through the production and ready to be shipped.

I think Nokia missed a big marketing opportunity. Why not look at Apple for things they do well, marketing. A big announcement of a release date or even better the phrase "and all this is shipping starting now".
You may not like Apple, but the do know how to put on a show.
And a little "wow" (to quote another campain) would not be bad.
I just read an article in the leading German computer magazine c't about Nokia (http://www.heise.de/ct/inhalt/2009/22/84/) and how the want to be a service oriented company. So I will repeat what I sad earlier: please Nokia, talk too us. Give us some news. We are the base making Maemo possible, we are all willing to help, but you need to talk to us.
Nokia does not give a rat about you and I. They are simply taking their time to avoid HUGE recall down the road. Personally, I'm patiently waiting for them to announce the release date of this N900 device.

Take the n97 for example, it took them 6+ months from announcement to release. Did that translate into no large issues on release? nope
- lens scratch defect
- stability issues on the first firmware
- panned by many non-fanboy reviewers
I would not assme longer release time equals increase in quality at Nokia

Unfortunately one common problem is knowing where and when you can buy their products. I'm particularly confused that they still do this "In select markets" stuff.
It's been the same story with a number of Nokia devices - it gets announced, you hear rumours of release dates, as you get closer you keep checking the dates on various places and they keep moving about. Even when it gets to "release date" you find you can get it on ebay from Hong Kong but not anywhere else. Eventually some weeks/months after you thought you could get it you can buy it through regular channels.
Nokia only seems to communicate release information to its channel partners with no thought for end consumers.

Hello all,
I am new to this forum and I would like to leave my feedback about this device. I think this device will be here this week, next week, or end of October. I believe this because The nokia n97 mini will be in stores on Oct 23 from this website http://www.knowyourmobile.com/blog/332751/nokia_n97_mini_gets_official_release_date.html
So that means N900 should come along with it too just like wat Sony did with their Satio Idou.

The word on the amazon boards is that
"Just got off the phone with an Amazon customer service representative and I was told Nokia has stated to Amazon the phones will be available last week of Oct."
sachin007

I just called amazon:
"The customer service rep said that the item is on pre-order and they do not have the information on when it would be shipped."
I said that i was leaving the country soon and i needed a date so that i can decide whether to cancel this order or to order directly from nokia. So she transferred me to the cell phones department where i talked to another lady and she repeated the same. I again reiterated my problem and said that any information if available would be hugely helpful for me. She said she was very sorry as they did not have any information at all to give me.
So amazon does not know when they will get the n900's from nokia.

because it's official press release? nokia still is limited liability company. SEC(USA stock market)&, FIVA (OMXH) monitors those. And for every delay one must create new press release. Or company pays millions and spends a lot of time in court. And releasing million press releases year is like kicking investors to nuts every time. (so much noise that there's no point even looking the releases for any important information)
and they cannot give official info outside press releases (court calls again)

LOL. This is going to be an awesome phone, and I believe it'll be worth the wait. Let's see how these initial reviews come out :) Now that people aren't under NDAs, we can get some hands on reviews (apart from the my-symbian & the mobile review (p)reviews.)
I'm also impatient, I do have the money for it, but it's going to hurt my wallet to part with the cash! LOL! So I'm kind of in a limbo sort of place right now. Come on and send the phone! I just called the German Nokia shop here like 5 mins ago. Why did I call? Because I was informed Sept. 30 when I pre-ordered that on October 13 the N900 would be shipped to their distribution center in the Netherlands. Today I was told it will not be until October 30th. If I'm not mistaken, Italy and Germany were going to be the first markets to receive the N900. I asked to speak to someone higher up than just a call associate and a manager informed me that Oct 30 is a "set in stone" date for shipment to the distribution center, then 3-5 business days for it to reach me here in Berlin. Not holding my breath, but silently praying very hard it is true.

Makes sense given Nokia did say they were fixing the memory issue before shipping. This means no boxed product was ready. At least it appears the actual box and literature are ready.
First week of November is the earliest I expect mine (Amazon + free shipping = later than normal).
BTW: Nokia has said nothing official about a launch date, so no date to reference if they are late or not. The word "estimate" is the ultimate marketing wiggle room point.

WTF. Can we get a second on this.
I preordered from Nokia USA. I just called them and was told that they expect to ship their preorders this week and at the latest beginning of next week. The Nokia rep at the CTIA show last week said that people who preordered from Nokia USA will be the first to get the N900 and the ones who ordered from other distributors will get them at a later date. I guess there is a reason for paying the premium price from ordering directly from Nokia USA.

Hello,
I've checked for both the items "Nokia N900 Mobile Computer Unlocked Cell Phone--U.S. Version with Full Warranty" and "Nokia N900 Unlocked Cell Phone/Mobile Computer with 3.5-Inch Touch Screen" are not yet resealed and the expected release date is not known. Unless the guy tells you he has it in his hands right now and he's carefully writing your address on the label what they tell you on the phone or in email doesn't mean a lot. They're just telling you what's on their inventory system as the due date and that could come from anywhere.

That's why I always take the Nokia route, even if it is more expensive. Nokia has always shipped their pre-orders before other distributors starting shipping their orders. I also like getting an extra year of warranty from Nokia USA -- especially when I am paying so much for a mobile device.

Those Amazon answers look like a standard Amazon response to a delivery date query for a pre-order.
I think you will find the date given is always TWO MONTHS after the date the pre-order was placed.
I got a similar response.
Anyone who has an Amazon pre-order - try emailing them and see if you get a date that is 2 months after the date you placed your pre-order.

You are right no date was mentioned except October (mid October on several occasions). Well here we are in Mid October and we haven't had a status update on this since the n900 first saw the light of day.
I am not asking for much when I ask for at least SOME idea of when my 700 dollar investment is likely to ship. Even if that turns out to be Nov etc - it would be friggin nice to have an idea so that I can plan business trip etc accordingly

Why would Nokia Europe care about the SEC? Just tell Europe when the phone will be available.
how would that change the situation? not at all. if they officially inform that n900 comes to shops at 20.10.2009 in germany and finland and that doesn't happend and there is no official correction, FIVA would sue.
nothing spesific for a release date = a little slack for last minute delays (i haven't seen a project in my short working life that didn't have those!)
so in nutshell.
if nokia had knew 25.8.2009 that N900 would be ready for shipping exactly 10.10.2009, they would have announced it.
its bit like asking lottery numbers when asking what day exactly your copy of n900 is shipped. nothing is as certain as uncertainty.
e: off course closer the release date gets, more probably they can quess the dates better.

A. Berri says:
Well I ordered mine on September 29th and paid for the overnight shipping method. I then emailed Amazon last night and they emailed back saying that they do have the N900 on hand but can't ship any of them since it hasn't been officially announced or released yet. Well I wanted to know more info such as when I should expect my device to be shipped so I called them this morning.
She looked in the system and said she doesn't even show an expected date of shipment under my order number. According to some people here, some of you guys are getting your phones sometimes in December? If so, when did you place your order? I'm guessing since I placed my pre-order sooooo late and the fact there isn't even a date of expected shipping on my order number...what does this mean? That I will get it like end of December or January even???? Now I'm really starting to get confused and upset.
I mean I understand if I'm not going to be a part of the 1st or 2nd batch of shipments but when your shipping is delayed due to first come first serve, you expect a delay of about like 2-3 weeks MAX! Not 2-3 Months!!!
I'm contemplating whether I should cancel my order and put my order through with someone else and now that I hear T-Mobile is coming out with the N900 (Project Dark Rumors almost 100% confirmed but still not sure when the N900 will release with T-Mobile) I'm thinking of just getting it with T-Mobile. Gee I dunno what to do anymore???

jolo stated in apps feedback thread that "Please note now 300 devices were given out at the Maemo Summit, so there are people with the device now."
So somewhere on the globe Nokia is having production line up&running. Those 300 are not made by hand. Now it's a matter of copying that production line over the factory / factories. But that one line at least is producing.
Bratag

@jaaksi tells: 300 N900 pre-production models for Maemo Summit 2009 participants for 6 months to play around. #maesum
After 6 months the devices will be returned, to be replaced by .... 300 N900 pre-production models as the N900 release date drifts into Duke Nukem Forever territory
:)
I'm guessing the 300 will be replaced either with production units...
....OR.... N920 pre production units.

It makes perfect sense for someone to be selling them for ~50%-75% of the retail price.
Why make money, when you can lose money?

Haha don't count me out, I live in MD (only about an hour away with traffic from D.C.)
It's nice living near Amazon and Newegg warehouses. The free shipping option for most products arrive in 3 days!
so are you going to go check there warehouse tonight to make sure we get it next week?
Please say you will.:p;)

Ok, with so many people calling Nokia and chatting with them, dont they realize how badly we want this phone and how they need to stop jerking us around and release it already?

They're jerking us around. Out of curiosity, I chatted with a few reps online and on the phone today and each rep said a different thing. (from shipping this week, shipping next week, shipping end of October, shipping sometime this month)
This reminds me when the N97 came out...on the morning of they were still quoting end of June but that afternoon they started shipping (this was first week of June).
If I wasn't so impressed with the phone I think I would cancel my order, get the My Touch 3G (I want to get rid of my iPhone so bad), and wait for the N900 to go down in price before buying it.

I've said it before - this is a very poor display of "managing client expectations" from Nokia. Very poor. Shamefully so.

I hope they follow that culture.

Haha actually the warehouses are in VA (Amazon) and PA (Newegg). None in Maryland =P. It's just because we're so all close that it ships so quickly even with free shipping.
Now I know why my free delivery arrives so fast too.

Haha, that's ok. I hate your highways in VA =P. Especially 66.
Just out of sheer curiosity, can you guys post your age.. ;)
