Haha, even on the way into Virginia it's horrible. Don't know where in VA you are but if your interested in Vietnamese food you should go to Eden Center there. It's about the only time I'm in VA when I'm not travelling through the entire state to get to NC.

What do you expect... we were suppose to get this thing at the end of September
Who told you so? Earliest date I've heard about was that Nokia was trying(!) to get them out on October 12th in the german Nokia store (which long has been pushed to October 30th).
Through which official venue was the "late September" date published?

Early suggestions tipped a late-October release, though Nokia UK are currently suggesting the N900 won’t arrive until November 2009.
http://www.slashgear.com/nokia-n900-video-unboxing-1259904/
Not sure if this has been posted already. Either way it makes me :(
Based on the e-mail I just received back from Nokia regarding the ship date for my order, it looks like they're sticking to a mid-October release.
Thank you for e-mailing the Nokia Care Contact Center. We are glad that you have
chosen the Nokia N900 as your preferred device.
With regard to your inquiry about the ship date of your ordered device, please be
informed that we cannot guarantee you the exact time but the time frame that we can
give you out is from mid-October until the end of the month. Please keep posted from
our website for more updates. www.nokiausa.com

So really when you sit back and look at everything it sounds like the phones are all ready to go, Amazon ( hopefully ) already has them and assigned each to it's pre-order's but really Nokia isn't releasing them because the updates you can get directly from the phone are all ****ed up?
I'm going by what the guy in the other thread said about updating the N900 he has in his possession along with the guy in AZ who said the thing about the Amazon warehouse.

Though servers are going be slammed the first few days then if out of the gate all the devices need updates.

Yeah exactly my point, Amazon is not going to send back the hundreds, possibly thousands of phones they have... so basically our ebil demon plans of torturing Nokia execs should be enacted... after all if Nokia would hurry up we'd have them already. UPDATE: Just found out reason for delay. Nokia needs to update the phone when you first connect to service or online: The firmware/software update is not ready yet. Out of the box, you might as well be using pre production devices till the update. Most distributers do have the phone in hand and are at their wharehouses. Someone who has buy.com preorder please email them and see what they say.

Quite honestly I'd rather have the phone now and have Nokia disable any updating on their end till they get this figured out,and just deal with whatever problems there are on the phone...I just want it, and will gladly look aside whatever fw problems there are.

It does sound feasible with all the weird and random status updates from Amazon and buy.com in the last few days. Unfortunately, software an QA are not exactly Nokia's strong points. Just look at the mess the e71 firmware update for USA users has gone through

As much as I want it first, I'll stick with Amazon--I'd rather save $70 and have to wait an additional two or three weeks than get it, as much as I'll go crazy waiting, no point in wasting money just because I want to be the first one...
Watch Amazon people will get it first before the Nokia people... than I'll just LOL!

No Joshua. The price listed should be the price... it wont be anything like amazon but just the fact of getting it across the border is good enough and its under the retail price too so that shouldnt matter.

I'm from Canada and i'm getting mine from http://www.mobilecityonline.com/wireless/store/productdetail.asp?productid=25125 with express shipping. Cost just as much in the end as Sparco.com with it's 30~ dollar shipping charge. I'm not sure if that's express though.

Well it says priority mail so i'm guessing it'll be from usps since they use the term priority mail. I too hope they ship via usps. I don't feel like travelling to the distribution centres if they miss my deliveries.

This is from Amazon Customer Discussions:
Hello,
I JUST called NokiaUSA website number - 1-866-59NOKIA
Representative picked up the phone. I will basically write EXACTLY what both of us said.
I can try and call more times if wished, and check up, but this is what I got:
Rep: Hello this is --------- What can I do for you today?
Me: Hello. I'm calling to Find out information on one of your phones.
Rep: Okay, and what phone would that be?
Me: The N900. I would like to know when the phone is planning to be released?
Rep: The phone should come out on a day this week.
Me: Are you sure it's this week?
Rep: Yes. They should be released this week.
Me: When would they be shipped?
Rep: We do not have an exact shipping date for this phone. But if you pre-ordered it, you should recieve it within the relased date of this week. We do it on a first come first serve basis.
Me: Okay. What if I pre-order the N900 tonight, will it be shipped out with 1st or 2nd batch?
Rep: You should have it when it comes out this week.
Me: Okay.
Rep: Is there anything else I can do for you today?
Me: No thats all. Thank You.
Rep: Thank You for calling Nokia, have a great day!
Basically, HE told me it would release THIS week. Now, I am skeptical of that, all though I hope he is telling the truth.
Right now I will call again, hopefully a new representative and try to find out other...
Rep: Hello this is --------- What can I do for you today?
Me: Hello. I'm calling to Find out information on the N900.
Rep: Yes sir.
Me: I would like to know when the phone is planning to be released?
Rep: It should be out this week.
Me: This week? Are you sure?
Rep: Yes. The information we have says that it will be released this week.
Me. Is there maybe like a specific date or anything?
Rep: No sir. Only information we have say that it will be out this week.
Me: Is there a guarentee?
Rep: No sir. We only know that it should be coming out this week.
Me. Okay. Okay well if I order it tonight, will I recieve it when it comes out? Or do I have to wait longer?
Rep: You will recieve it as soon as it comes out sir.
Me: Okay. Okay, and is there any case for this phone?
Rep: No. We do not have any cases for this model yet.
Me: Okay, thats all. Thank You.
Rep: Thank You for calling Nokia.
Basically, I JUST got the same responce, both representatives said the N900 would be out this week. No SPECIFIC date, but the information THEY were given said that it will come out this week, and if you order it/pre-order it now, you will still get it as soon as it comes out.
Now I am not telling you people that its THIS week, but I am throwing in my help to try and figure out WHEN it will be coming out.
Hope this helped in some way, and hopefully it is this week.
Anyone to call them and confirm?
I think Amazon was supposed to ship the N900 this week, ahead of Nokia's pushed-back release date and due to the information posted on this board, Nokia distribution will be aware of the mess-up and correct Amazon to the proper November release date :D
sharper
10-13-2009, 07:22 AM
Guys I don't know why you're all contacting various support reps to find out when it's going to be released. They don't know anything more than anyone else and you're just going to get annoyed if they say a date and then that date passes.
I would suspect at this point even the N900 dev team couldn't give you a cast iron date. I think it's pretty likely they're working through some critical bugs and the hardware won't be released until there's a known good build of software to put on it. The last thing Nokia will want is a negative impression of Maemo since this is their first attempt to put it into the phone/smartphone space.
Just assume you won't see the device until November sometime and that way you'll only be pleasantly surprised if it shows up earlier.

did you see the linux ***** on that thing i dont even want to think about it all i dont know what ive done its a hardcore h4x0r-pr0-gr4mm4r device.. wish i bought the ibomb... ;(
serious. it's like a girl. i need one because something inside me says so. but i don't know how it works, its too damn complicated and its only going to frustrate me. and once you know how it works, you have to get deeper into it to understand it better. and the deeper you get into it the more time you spend on it, which will make you in the end very very unhappy and the fun of just playing with it wont be there anymore. You spend so much time on trying to figure it out and then something works and you can play with it, then you are SO damn happy it finally works and you play way too long. then you dont have time for your friends anymore and you become lonely just with n900 and you know it all well and stuff and its fun. but the reason you actually got one is fulfilled and its not fun damnit.
im gonna call nokia NL. will update later.

At least they are saying this week... but since they are saying their information shows... i guess their information could change.. but I hope not.

I really must say, this is by far the most entertaining thread on here! We are all anxiously awaiting our devices, but this is turning into a fun comedy/investigator/speculation topic!
My addition to that is, that we should all pitch in for a private investigator to go spy in finland at nokia's factory!
Let's hope the 2nd week of October is correct, but in reality.... no way it can be, they should have shipped allready for that.
I'm betting on getting at the beginning of november. That way I hope I don't get disapointed.
But by all means, continue continue! :p

I think people get all too confused about or make up how it should have been shipped by now to reach the mid-October rumored or speculated release date.
The whole idea that, "It should be in my hands--for those that pre-ordered--by the first of the second week in October," sounds a bit unreasonable. It would be a nice thought except... If they really wanted to do it that way Amazon, if you pre-ordered it from there, wouldn't have offered options for shipping.
This is similar to the confusion about how it should have been shipped by the time distributors got it on September 27th when in actuality that's when distributors receive it which does not mean that it will be shipped to customers the day after or on that day.
This "mid-October" week isn't even over yet and I think the biggest confusion is misconstruing the word release. Because to them it could just mean that's when they ACTUALLY ship it. So they might ship it the end of the 2nd week or maybe the actual mid-October 15-16 and you might not even get it until the 3rd week because you decided to opt for free shipping (lol)..

The point is, nobody knows, and this whole thread is speculation.
The Nokia site says "end of october", but I'm sure somewhere in the site's small print, it says "dates are subject to change" or "dates are only estimates".

You can Google for that topic. Nokia has had a history of not shipping before other distributors. Buying from Nokia is like playing Russian Roulette. There have been N97 pre-order debacles.
Although I don't care when I get it as long as it's within a price range that I'm pretty happy with from a reliable and reputable distributor.

Hmm.. I made note of two new thing about the Nokia preorder now.
When I Order mine I got a free blue tooth headset... which is no longer added when you add phone to cart.
And I choosed overnite shipping... but now they only have the express and standard shipping.

The Nokia site says "end of october", but I'm sure somewhere in the site's small print, it says "dates are subject to change" or "dates are only estimates".
Or it will be changed. Because when I preordered my device, the nokia shop in Germany said 12th of october, now it says (well for two weeks now) 30th of october.
As has been said in this thread before and before and before and before and before and before.

I like this thread. I've understood every single post! Most of them were useless, of course, but I understood them. :)
Amazon UK tells me they plan to ship it on Oct 26th, I should have it on the 27th. They also tell me that dates are subject to change. If it arrives by the 30th, I shall be a happy bunny. If not, I shall probably sulk a little. But I'd rather have it when it's ready than risk it having to go into scbu cos it's prem.
Seriously, it's like being pregnant!

That's one flaw with this format of forum.
We've got nearly 60 pages of blabber - I'm not wading through that. I want to read the initial post to find out what the deal is....I may read through the first couple pages at most, and if I don't read anything interesting (and if I think I have something to say) I'll hit reply.
Far better are those forums that have a mechanism for promoting the most useful replies to the top (eg. stackoverflow.com).

Being that i ordered from Sparco.com, they have a list of all their warehouses and the ETA for each on the N900.
Being that i pre-ordered mine 09-11-09, when i pre-ordered it, here is the history of there ETAs for all warehouses:
- on 09-11-09 it said ETA would be Sept 25th
- on 09-15-09 it said ETA would be Oct 22nd
- on 09-22-09 it said ETA would be Nov 2nd
And now since 10-09-09 it says different dates for each warehouses, some Oct 22nd and some in mid Nov as you can see here (http://www.sparco.com/cgi-bin/wfind2?spn=A1AC383). So i think them getting more precise with there ETAs means that it should have a limited supply for Oct for pre-orders and probably will receive a next batch for November.
They also show that in PA and TX are the ones receiving it Oct 22nd which makes sense because they are the ports of entry for containers. So i think the ETAs should be accurate with them.
And if thats the case, i hope i get mine on the first batch.

Hai guys...
I'm sure everyone is waiting eagerly and I've been following this and other threads for a while and I'd like to input my 2c...
I HOPE that they are going to be shipping the devices soon, and I know many of you would much rather have the device now to just play around than wait any longer... But looking at this from a neutral perspective, I doubt that is going to happen.
If you follow closely on all the youtube uploads up to now, many of the videos actually show a lot of flaws still in the n900. I can't remember specifically what, but there seem to be a number of bugs. Now, unless these are already fixed, they still have some way to go till the release (because they probably have to plug the bugs and stuff that don't work, and re evaluate from there)..
On the other hand, I just received a letter from my operator that I bought the phone from, telling me that it's ready to be picked up in coming days.. Don't know what coming days mean, nor do I know if this was sent to everyone that ordered a n900, the letter was not dated =/
Also, I have spoken to some Nokia reps and I know for a fact that Finland is going to be one of the first countries that are getting the n900 (I don't know what "one of the first" means in detail). Also, I have been told by Nokia that phones are shipped out in the order that they were made.
Also, it seems a bit weird for Nokia to give out 300x N900's to developers and then the next week start shipping the phones; it hardly gives the developers time to test out their software and have a large enough repository to pull in some of the non-techsavvy audience. Remember that we are the geeks that follow what's going on with N900 every single day, of course you wouldn't mind having this phone now. But think about the marketing power that this phone could have, if/when they advertise it to have hundreds of programs ready.
My guess would be; the last week of the month earliest... Let the waiting begin =(
Meanwhile; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tHSZfhY25Jc Quake III Arena on Nokia N900 for those who haven't seen it yet...

Amazon already has all the N900's on hand in their Phoenix warehouses. They can't ship until the release date which hasn't been set yet but we are all expecting to be like sometime in the next 7-10 days. A "Nokia" rep will tell you that so you place your order with them instead of anyone else.

Most orders go through these 4 phases: Processing - - Sent to Warehouse - - In the Shipping Process - - Shipped. Once you order, we carefully check to make sure you're the person using your credit card or gift certificate.
While we're doing this, or if we're waiting for you to send in other forms of payment, your order is Processing. You can cancel your order within the first 15 minutes of processing.
Once we have verified your payment, your order is Sent to Warehouse to be fulfilled.
An item that is In the Shipping Process cannot be cancelled because it is being picked from the shelves, packaged, and stacked on the loading dock.
If your item is in stock, your order will be Shipped within 1 to 2 business days.

Nokia has said the device is still being worked on. Unless Amazon has "beta" phones, I doubt Amazon is sitting on units in Phoenix.

You: I also have a concern about the price

You: Is there any reason I should buy through Nokia?
Paul: It is up to you where ever you wish to buy it from, but if anything goes wrong with the phone you will have to take it to BUY.com and that will really take a long time
You: Do buy.com phones not have a Nokia warranty?
Paul: I don't know

I guess that Michael Jerz from Symbian (http://my-symbian.com/other/preview_n900.php) had drilling machines of a finger to get scratches so easily on his N900.

The sad thing is, someone stupid person once they get a scratch on their N900 just doing daily stuff will sue Nokia based on the fact that 'it will take a drilling machine to scratch the N900' statement from the rep. It doesn't matter if it's a janitor working for Nokia, the fact is ( at least here in the US ) if it's a person working for Nokia and they give a statement on a particular product, and that statement turns out to be false, some schmuck will probably sue Nokia. Not to mention the rep made that statement directly through Nokia, which makes it even more litigious if proved false.
Sometimes when you think about our legal system here, you truly wonder how ****ed up we can become.
unkno
10-13-2009, 10:40 PM
Hardened glass? Will that really matter since the N900 has a resistive screen so there will have to be the resistive layer coated on top of the glass screen. As far as I know, a scratch-resistant layer is then placed to cover the whole screen. This means that it depends on how good that scratch-resistant layer is and not the glass itself.
I'm still gonna put a screen protector on mine because I'll be pocketing that device all day in my pants and there's a drilling machine of some sort in my crotch..

Depending on how efficient customs and the retail channel you are using (and shipping method), everyone could get the device during the first week of November.
Test units were just sent out this weekend and Nokia is still working on the firmware. I would rather get a fairly stable and ready device for $620 rather than a buggy test unit. I can wait.
I guess my G1 still has a few more weeks of love.

OMG I GOT AN EMAIL FROM AMAZON!!!! POSTING HERE BEFORE I EVEN READ IT!!!!
Hello,
Looking into your order, I see that " Nokia N900 Unlocked Cell Phone/Mobile Computer with 3.5-Inch Touch Screen, QWERTY, 5 MP Camera, Maemo Browser, 32 GB--U.S. Version with Full Warranty " has not yet been released. I'm sorry about this delay-we certainly didn't expect that this would happen.
We normally obtain this item from a supplier who can usually send it to us within 2 to 3 weeks from the time your order is placed; however, in this case, the supplier has taken longer than expected to respond to us.
We sent an e-mail notification as soon as we learned from our supplier that the status of this item had changed. Unfortunately, our reliance on suppliers and manufacturers for information about their stock means that, occasionally, our database will not reflect all changes.
However, I see that the current estimated ship and delivery date for your order is:
Estimated Ship Date: Dec 7, 2009
Estimated Delivery Date: Dec 18, 2009
Since we have several fulfillment centers across the U.S., the items in your order may sometimes be in stock at different locations. When you place your order, we estimate your ship date based on three factors
1. The proximity of your items to the delivery address you provide
2. How quickly we can obtain the items from suppliers if that is required
3. How quickly we can assemble items for shipment
Also, please note that for most shipping methods, items that are ordered on Friday, Saturday, or Sunday may not ship out until the following Monday.
If you'd rather cancel your order, I understand. You may cancel unshipped item online by following these steps and I would like to request you please return to our website and place a new order by choosing our third party seller who is having this item currently "Instock".
1. Click the "Your Account" link at the top of our web site.
2. Click the link that says "Cancel orders."
3. Sign in with your e-mail address and password.
4. Click the "View or change order" button on the relevant order.
5. Click the button that says "Need to cancel an item?"
6. Click the checkbox next to "Cancel 1 item" for any items you'd
like to cancel.
7. Click the "Cancel checked items" button.
You'll receive an e-mail confirmation of your cancellation.
Otherwise, we will ship as soon as we receive from our supplier.
If you haven't received a shipment confirmation by Dec 7, 2009, let us know by visiting the URL below:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/help/contact-us/wheres-my-stuff.html/
In addition to our large selection, one of the benefits we'd like to offer our customers is convenience, and we have not met that standard in this case. Please accept our sincere apologies.
We appreciate your business and hope that you will give us the chance to serve you again in the near future.

My Amazon Account still lists it as shipping on 26th Oct, but if you access the device via search, it now says 2nd Nov. My guess is that they havent updated the accounts information yet.
Nokia did this with the last device I bought from them, so much so that the phone was eventually nick-named 'Godot' when I got it. Now I recall, I swore then I would never buy another nokia. Weak-willed fool that I am. *Sigh*
The calm rational part of me says I'd rather they get the thing right before shipping than send it out half-cooked. My non-rational side is stomping its feet and throwing a full scale hissy fit.

I will be so pissed* if Expansys actually deliver my N900 in October. It'll go to Trinidad, but I'm away from there until 9th November.
Imagine an N900 sitting in a box in my office, unloved.

Kinky Peter is so hot when he's reading about fictional hardware poetry so we all paid a private investigator to spy on him with time killer spy satellite. Private investigator, called Godot said "gimmie-gimmie-gimmie the money first, and then i'll go just around the corner to spy on him with my special driller machine". So we paid him with our money from funny tag competition and then we searched for term "fixed in harmattan" in our tweets showcase. Godot said that Peter said that he'll wait for n920, because he isn't sure is it here yet??? So, we said to Godot that he should watch Peter and not listen what he is saying because we didn't pay for that. If he continues to listen what he is talking about we'll take our money back and buy a time killer book called "N900 & prejudice".
wtf?

I'm gonna boycott watching videos and reading about the n900 for a while (This thread not included; not like there's any news about n900 on this thread anyway ;) )...
The reason I'm doing this is because I'm tired of waiting for the phone!
I've been waiting for the phone so eagerly that I've probably watched all the videos on youtube on n900 and all the links posted at maemo talk... I actually want to have some amazement when I get the phone. You know the feeling of not being able to control your phone very well, and not knowing what button does what under a different menu. I feel like I already know too much to fully enjoy all the functions that come with the phone/tablet...

Depends where you live and when did you order it... Therefore, no =/
Selected markets are going to be releasing it before others, and they are shipping them in the same order as they were ordered...

Not true. NokiaUSA has shipped out after distributors in the past.
USA is not everything
most nokia devices start shipping in europe first which is how 3rd party sites get them before nokia US does, they get theres from europe so not official US release.
you'll never see NAM versions go on sale in US before nokiaUS as them

The best option is to let it load and drag the progress bar along until you see something that interests you. They do give the device quite a thorough demo.

canceled from buy.com because of this email reply
We apologize for the delay of your order.
However, we have received an estimated time of arrival from our distributor and expect this product to ship on or around 11/20/09. Please note that this date is only an estimate and is subject to change. You will receive an email once the product ships and your credit card will not be billed until that time.
and will order through pc connection when my bank is credited because they are saying that they have a ship date of OCT.22
buy.com's cancellation dept. tried to say that i couldn't because the order was in fullfillment. and i told them how are they supposed to be full-filling my order when they will not have the product for atleast another month......
they cancelled the order.

Woah, woah, no one said USA was everything. You made that conclusion yourself.
Now I made a mistake of getting ahead of myself because people keep asking or saying that Nokia USA specifically would ship before other distributors. But in the case of NokiaUSA, which to me is linked directly with Nokia, I still say that you cannot always count on their shipment date as when other distributors will start shipping because it has happened in the past where they botched the whole pre-order ordeal.
I think we just have to be careful about which Nokia we are talking about and what the actual release date of each selected market was supposed to be. UK could release at a certain date, but it doesn't necessarily mean Asia or USA would release at the same time. Reiterating what Meng said a few posts back.

I had the same thoughts at the Summit before I got mine. Fortunately, the N900 will still beat your expectations :D.
I was and continue to be blown away by the capabilities and opportunities this device offers. In my opinion, it toasts everything else on the market.

The only explanation for this is that someone on here is not wishing hard enough for its release.

I have never had anything but grief ordering from buy.com. I will never purchase from them again after , what I am calling , the saga of the broken and double monitors.
Also in response to battery lasting all day comment. If you read the power profiles thread - looks like battery lasting all day wont be an issue for 75% of users, those who use phone and internet a reasonable amount should be fine

anyone else worried that by the time they get the n900 they'll have forgotten what it is they used to look at on the internet other than n900 related information?
on that note anyone have a list of the first things they're going to try when it's finally in their hands?
