This thread is basically my reason for living until I get the n900. I really hope this message never gets back to my girlfriend. lol

I am busy telling myself that Nokia are delaying the n900 in order to make it Even More Awesome for me. By the time it ships, I expect it to have all the apps I could possibly need, (and a few I could never find a use for) along with the capacity to make a cup of tea, change TV channels, walk the dog for me, drive the car, do my day's work, instantly make me lose half a stone in weight and become (even) more beautiful. After all, I don't want them to ship it unfinished, do I?

IR functionality alone should provide years of entertainment with the N900.

I use IRshell on my PSP, and I can pretty much go anywhere, and as long as I can see the brand of television / cable box that I am targeting, I can change the channel / volume, etc.

This is especially fun on those drunken evenings at the local bar when the tv closest to me isn't displaying a channel that is to my liking.

So as another week draws to a close without our N900s being shipped its time once again to ask ourselves "What have we learned?"

For myself ....


I learned that Nokia QA is done entirely in the nude.
That throughout the ages famous people have known and loved the N900 in all its shapes and forms.
That the ship date for the N900 could be anywhere between next week and next year.
That occasionally people need punching in the cock.


What is certain is that we all take something from this thread and the almost religious routine of "Refresh,read,post" has become the new mantra.

This is causing me, and I am sure others, some annoyance now that they have managed to trip the fraud detection which disables my card and causes me to call in to get it fixed because I missed a phone call.

Most companies can get this right, Nokia should too. Auth/Charge the card when the thing is shipping, not every two weeks until the end of the year.

Just spoke with Nokia rep( Upper management) n900 being prepped for shipping to distrubuters. Distributers may fufill orders upon reciept. Target date of Official release on store shelves is October 19th.... Already preorder mine .

The date in the email is just another 30 days out. Has nothing to do with expected delivery time.

Found out the deal with that, they send you an update order email after exact one month from your initial order date. so thats why they said november 15th that would be another month from today, that has nothing to do with the shipping date or anything.

I'm surprised that the iphone 3gs has a better gpu than nokia n900.

You have to laugh, Qualcomm MSM72xx 4M/triangles? Yeah right, MAYBE if you actually provided working drivers. But I had an Xperia X1 and NOTHING 3D ACCELERATED WORKED ON IT!

Its a big reason for me switching to the N900 as I will never trust a Qualcomm chipset again especially Windows Slowbile. The CPU was seriously weak too though probably would have coped alright with decent GPU acceleration along side.

3) the keyboard will be QWERTZ, with all 4 navigational arrow keys, but localized (I know, unique)
4) the Czech slogan for the N900 will be: "Explore new possibilities."
5) local operators (Vodafone, O2, T-Mobile) are hesitating wheter to carry the device or not, so far it looks only Nokia will be selling it, atleast in the beginning.

I don't know if you read my post fully, but i refer to Nokia Czech Republic and everything i mention in those points refers only to the Czech Republic, just to make this clear. I was assured that mid November is the final release date for Czech Republic from Nokia Czech who got the information from Nokia HeadQuarters. In the US the device will ship earlier than that for sure.

Oh and i just added one more point which i forgot:

I'm not surprised that carriers are a bit hesitant, due to the environment being so different from anything that they've delt with before, and I don't think the same degree of customisation (or crapware, depending on who you ask) is going to be possible.

That having been said, Nokia is big, and it shows. Most of the carriers I've hunted around in the UK seem to have plans to offer N900s.

So far, I've bought a case (http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?p=345647#post345647), checked ebay and Amazon regularly for new n900 accessories, read up on the N900 obsessively and made a futile effort to determine in Garnet VM will run on it (http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=31828)

As for other people, several shrines have been lovingly prepared, often disturbing plots to get the device have been devised and they've been trawling the net for the kinds of images that mean I think twice about sneaking a peek at this thread in meetings!

Hhaha, relax! Nokia never promised anything in that sense. They said end of October for a long while now and I personally hope they can keep that indication. But they have been indications, nothing more.

Where end of September came from, no clue. Would have been odd if they delivered before the summit itself. :P :confused:

I'll probably get flamed for saying this, but that is the reality (in my opinion). If we relaxed a bit (okay okay, anxiously relax? ;) ). It'll be here soon enough.

But don't go shouting about ....ing promises, when there are none. :)

For me buy.com charged me tax for purchase here in California. total would come out close to $600.00

Like Amazon, buy.com sells some items themselves and acts as a intermediary for a number of small companies. The small companies should have buyer experience ratings. I wouldn't buy from one where buyers have had problems. As far as my own experience, I have bought a number of things from buy.com without any problems but I have never had to use their customer service.

Yeah buy.com have basically screwed up every order I have ever placed with them (3 to date and thats 3 strikes and you are out).Last order they shipped me a monitor - was broken, called for an RMA to return it. Then got a notice of a new monitor order having been placed. They charged my card AGAIN. I called and said hey I dont want it cancel it, only to be told that sales support couldnt cancel and order placed from their RMA dept. Had to ship back the old one - then receive the new one and then they had the balls to try charge me for the shipping to return that one.

FYI for you all, got an email from InvisiShield ( one of my fraternity brothers is the CFO and I asked him a while back if he could see about doing something ) stating they are currently working on a full body shield for the N900 and should hopefully have it released within the next three weeks or so. If they get this out within that time frame they'll get allot of business solely based on the fact that their aren't that many protections for the N900.

This phone is too beautiful to cover up with hard cases imo...so the full body shield plus a carrying case= uberness

If your SIP is Gizmo5, just enter your GV number on the Gizmo web page and it is automatic. Of course, I am using an N810. I know nothing about the N900...

Okay this is getting serious now, I had a dream about the N900 this morning!

I dreamt that when it finally came out the screen was actually recessed and the touch screen far too sensitive so it was almost impossible to use, I kept selecting the wrong things.

I then grabbed a pre-production unit and confronted [some guy] from Nokia (who just happened to be in the next room) telling them how I much preferred the earlier units design than the final one, showing him the difference between them (I had both my retail unit and the pre-production one in my hands). But when I looked down I then noticed I wasn't holding an N900 pre-production unit but a different model entirely that also had a recessed screen, yet the Nokia guy agreed that he preferred the flush screen of the pre-production unit too.

I then went frantically looking trying to find the REAL pre-production N900 and came to the conclusion someone stole it. I then woke up and came on here to post my freaky dream.

Now what does all this say about MY sanity?

I currently checked this ... and surprise surprise ... there are currently 3 shops in Germany which changed to in stock (a few)
The shops are simyo.de, mobilejoker.de and handyattacke.de
We'll see tomorrow if this is really correct. Has someone bought a N900 from one of these resellers?

When i was about to preorder the N900 i thought about where to buy this device. Ok, amazon was my first idea. But when i ordered my E71 last year i bought it directly from nokia and that was my best decision.

Order from manufacturer is a good idea, especially when it's about such a device.

The only officially published date in Germay for release I know is 2009-10-30 from the Nokia shop. This is also the published date for Finland so I think till CW44 we have to spend some time in this thread :-)

I was just thinking, if that happened to me. I would instead get dog ****, stick little pieces of it in a chocolate box and gift wrap it and send it to him. Putting a little real chocolate on top of the dog **** would hide the smell and hopefully cause him to bite into it.

I haven't been asked to verify an extension to Nov. So maybe the following isn't helpful, but...

I pre-ordered from Amazon USA September 19, 2009.

Order still says, "Not Yet Shipped:
Delivery estimate: We need a little more time to provide you with a good estimate. We'll notify you via e-mail as soon as we have an estimated delivery date. You can cancel at any time."

The price still says, $582.99.

I'd be surprised if Amazon didn't amend your invoice to your original preorder, if you email them about it.

I've just emailed Mobile Phones Direct asking how exclusive their n900 release date is. They did have 'Exclusive - 30th release date', stated on their page. That changed last week to just Exclusive - end of October... They should know by now!

I've said, that a friend of mine (kingofkingz24) told me, that the N900s will ship tomorow, if this is true.
She said, that she don't know, it's possible, but the only official known date is the 30 October.
She also said, that it is possible, that we get our devices before the official date, with a letter "surprise, here is your beloved N900" from Nokia.
And she also said, that they have enough devices to fullfill every preorder.
Then she looked into my preorder and said, that I will be one of the first who will get it. :-D

I'm new to this board and here because I've preordered the N900 as well. My reseller is shifting the delivery date so often - because he simply gets no answer from Nokia.

I don't want a Fort-Knox-Only-Steve-Approve-Software Telephone (Despite using MAC-OSX...) and I love the idea to have a multithreaded root-shell linux phone! So I'm not a maemo addict by now.
I want to get rid off my old E61. And I'm now waiting for months! Hey Nokia Guys, the E97 was no revelation - thats why I still have my E61.
