that looks like liqflow travelling through there.
any chance of a blank version, I might just be able to bring that to life.

quite simple really; c4d did most of it by itself.. added the sweeping effect with my wacom board in photoshop..
To make it easier for N900 users should I cut it up into 4x 800x480px versions? if I understand right you add background for each of the four desktops one on one.. yes?

yesss... a moving background. that would be c to the b to the a-wesome !
man. i have alot of ideas already. man walking. girl walking.
how about an interactive desktop as in a live html page.
could be the news, could be a small 4 window comic(updated every day for new laughter :P). etc.

How's that for a widget proposal otherwise..?

my thoughts: Interactive desktop/dashboard is the dashboard itself. ON the dashboard you can place widgets.
if you would make a widget of it, it would be possible too, only it would be smaller. since the screen of the n900 is just 3.5 inch.. it would be real small if it was a widget and thereby taking up alot of space.. space you could use for other widgets. but .. good idea ..damnit. lot of ideas here on this forum :P
its a shame you can't just zoom into these things.

I see what you mean and it was a sweet idea, I just had the widget propsal thread (http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?p=338996#post338996) in my head,,
Generally I like things like that, it makes the device feel alive and smart. I could see the wallpaper change when I get home, for instance, or gradually change as the seasons change
EDIT: Oooo, or change based on the current weather!

This is the sickest thing ever I have seen!
What's the beat detection backend? Did you do any DSP?
I guess the particle flows is based on OpenGL ES 2. Correct me if I am wrong.
liqflow runs on n810* :)
*accelerometer not available tho..

yeah i know.. im so gay
or liquid flow or an interactive desktop which moves when you tilt the device (by the accelerometer). you could have a lot of stuff swirling down the background.. such as sand.. water. what not
oh lol i see your post above me now :)

Actually, could that live-type wallpaper be emulated by a large fullscreen widget? I don't know how overlapping widgets, links and shortcuts behave, but if you could send a 480x800 widget "to the background", in the sense that the status bar as well as no other widgets, links and shortcuts ended up behind it, you could make it look like the wallpaper did all sorts of stuff.
That gorgeous wallpaper from this thread WITH LIQFLOW (could you not make that into a widget, lcuk?), weather, news, comics, clock, slideshow, whatever...

Hmm I wonder, is there anyway to have the n900 auto scroll through the 4 desktops? Like every 5 minutes (or whatever interval a user sets).

its a shame you can't just zoom into these things.Yes, that is what I meant with E17 backgrounds in another post. These are live rendered. But I quite like the 'refreshing' desktop too, it would just fetch every day the latest comic available and resize it for the 800x480. Like for example http://www.foksuk.nl and put the new one as bg.

EDIT: Oooo, or change based on the current weather!Yes, location API + weather. Or use location API to grab picture from Google Street View.
Shephard could be used for this.
This one is using Edje to render, and very fast http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PhtNZ8-_-Ns but its just spinning around.

My thought exactly. Posted an idea for weather vectoring in the shepherd feedback thread (http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=31524&page=4) yesterday.

added a new glassy one (added links in first post).. it will be on n900wallpapers.com when its accepted. It is really nice but keep in mind there is for user no difference between switching from desktop 1 to 2, 2 to 3, 3 to 4 and 4 to 1 while with your background 4 to 1 doesn't blend.
If you're making a desktop background please consider to keep this in mind!!

I have tried to think of the 4-1 transition.. if I offset it here I can se the blend there.. its not to bad is it?

I have tried to think of the 4-1 transition.. if I offset it here I can se the blend there.. its not to bad is it?Hmm, well, if it were ASCII/ANSI art I'd just blend the last letter with first. In this case, I'd put my effort on mixing the secondary art; the balls. I'd make them more harmonic in the middle of your screenshot. Remember, the user does not see the end or beginning. The user has no concept of '4th desktop' or '1st desktop'. Its all 'the centered' desktop with one 'left', and one 'right'. So swipe away. Although each desktop is somehow unique.
In that regard, maybe make 4 versions of 'maemo.org' logo, each in a different way, with secondary artwork mixing with each other. Because the user will never see the (IMO beautiful) artwork at a whole.

I get some of what you are saying and have to wait until I have a n900 i my hands to really see how it works. I have looked at it with my n810 in Tear and scrolled it left to right from there. It works quite nice I think. I understand you dont see the whole thing ever at once but I think thats kind of the point and gives a cool effect. Each desktop gets its own unique quite abstract look but as you sweep thorugh 3-4 desktops it reveals the maemo.org logo. Its all personal prefs I suppose.. but as said I really need to test this out for real to see how it works. I think there is some quite cool creative possibilities with this pano bacgrounds..

On Symbian, we used the LiveU Flash object
http://www.symbian-freak.com/news/007/12/liveu_garden_view_screensaver.htm
, but never got full support from Nokia to use it as a desktop wallpaper. Were supposed to, but still waiting. If we could do something like this for Maemo if the community demand is great enough, wow...

I like both your desk top backgrounds... is there any chance you can switch out a color to go with the other theme on the N900. I was wondering if you could make a "blue version" of the same exact "dark glass effect" which would just be blue where its currently orange, but evey thing else would be the same ( please :o ).

hehe, just download the orange big one in this thread.. open it in photoshop - Press Ctrl + U - Drag the Hue value to whatever color suites you.
This feature is in free Gimp too. Just not sure where. :)
