Hello,

Does the N900 play AAC Plus radio stations properly? Most mobile internet radio programs (Nokia İnternet Radio on S60, CorePlayer) play them at very bad quality for some reason.
And if it doesn't, could there ever be a program written that does play them properly?

If you provide an URL to test someone could try. :)

Are you sure they weren't on bad quality to begin with? Or then they could falsely identifying the AAC+ / HE-AAC as standard AAC which means ignoring the SBR data.
That causes quite noticifiable drop in aac+ audio quality.

Examples of radio stations that play reasonable on the PC but pretty bad on Coreplayer/Nokia Internet Radio:

I don't know exactly which one but whether SBR or parametric stereo (I'd vote on this one) is not working as it should in S60 internet radio app, so it sounds noticeably bad when compared to PC playback of the same stream and (bad) sound reproduction doesn't change much on different bitrates.

From having the same bad quality for local files as well as online streams, I guess S60's AAC codec is somewhat really inferior/primitive to the ones we use in PCs; that's why I'm also interested in N900's sound reproduction quality (compared to a PC's) from an eAAC+ stream too.

I just tried the first one (on headphones) and it sounded reasonable (I'm no audiophile, though).

If I'd ask:

Could someone please try to listen the same song from a low bitrate (24 to 64 kbps) stream (which could be self-broadcasted with WinAmp + Shoutcast over WiFi) and compare quality of device & PC playback while the same headphones used? would it be too much, or just fun to try? :)

My understanding is that you need to decode some of the AAC stream to decide if it's just normal AAC-LE or HE-AAC with the extra data. Maybe he internal decoder doesn't know how to do it and just merilly decodes the stream as AAC-LE.

On S60 local files play fine. It's just the streams that play as LE-AAC. I really wonder how that will be on the N900 :)
