Being honest, brainstorm sucks ***!

Random single votes to ideas that nobody has a clue if somebody else besides one guy has seen etc.

It is very hard to keep yourself motivated creating ideas and solutions when after 24 hours no activity. And now talk-page shows:Currently Active Users: 256 (43 members and 213 guests)

i guess nobody knows about the whole brainstorm or all have experienced same feelings as I and stopped motivating theirselves by force.

I think major changes is needed. First of all, voting for the ideas. Because if everything stays like this, we can only dream that brainstorming has more activity than now...

please discuss, feedback, whatever! just dont sit in the shadows and be silent. nobody here is a mentalist i think so every thought said loud is respected (or atleast should be!)

Personally, I'd augment that statement: Brainstorm is confusing and scary. It requires a separate log in, and I'm still not quite sure what I'm doing.

I can comment and contribute here in the forum (that bit's ok) but I've only voted once, I think. It seemed a Very Big Step.

I must admit that I feel the same way.
I also can't stand the lack of single-sign-on.
Something that has been 'worked on to be fixed' for cough-cough..two years now..?

Anyway, the concept of something like brainstorm is good - but the implementatiom of it was rather horrendous.

I'd love a nice, front-end to it that displays, in an easy to read way, the idea and for you to vote on it.
Maybe even 'feature' some idea randomly on the front page, etc.

I looked at it and just tnought that it was for developers and moved on. It is certainly not being 'sold' very well if it wants to attract pure users

I wonder if there's some way to incorporate Brainstorm *into* the forums, since that's where all the real brainstorming seems to happen?

embedding the voting into talk could be one solution worth trying. i'll add it as solution too. chatting must be done in talk anyway so why bother going to brainstorm-page if all there must be done is voting for regular user?

That would be much easier for teddy bear type users. It would (presumably) also sort the 'single log in' problem, for brainstorm at least. If the ideas could appear as a poll in the talk thread (editable if vbulletin will allow). It would be a lot less scary, utilising systems and concepts I'm familar with from other forums instead of something completely nrew.

The only downside I can see is if part of the complexity is deliberate to deter casual voters. ;)

Hi, single sign-on is coming and the Brainstorm is not guilty of the lack of it. Getting a Talk login doesn't solve automatically the usability issues, so they still need to be addressed.

I'd recommend you to wait just a bit to have published the internal version that is being tested these days. See

http://maemo.org/community/brainstorm/view/landing_in_brainstorm/ (In development)

My feedback after testing the internal version yesterday

When is single-sign-on coming?

I won't defend any of the current problems per se, but please understand: this is a fairly new feature here and still under development (as Quim explained). Please contribute suggestions in appropriate venues and bear with us as we improve the experience.

Thanks!

yes i know. thats why something must be done before brainstorm-section can be taken seriously. i hope atleast some people activates and atleast with this brainstorm item because it seems that other concerns i mentioned have been taken care of.

so please everybody, just create logins to garage and be active with this brainstorm.

I have so far not voted anything in the brainstorm sections. Usually the word 'brainstorm' isn't combined with 'voting' to start with.. quite the opposite really. So I find the whole thing a) slightly confusing, b) difficult to contribute to.

I would quibble with the voting part. I have participated in and facilitated corporate brainstorming events where voting on suggestions was indeed an important part of the process. Brainstorming itself can be wild, loose, whatever... but in the end, something practical and prioritized must emerge.

I agree with that, but that's the point where the actual brainstorming has ended.. :)

Understood, and we're working on improving that here.

i think that is quite logical. one creates idea, small people chats and create solutions. then the voting starts.

in my opinion only the voting must be made as easy and convenient possible. you cant have 1000 people shouting @ brainstorming but if you can have those 1000 voting soon after solutions are introduced, i am certain that it is more useful than only the people brainstorming voting their own solutions.
