I finally convinced the wife that the n900 would be a good (First phone ever) phone for me. My question is....(because I have never owned a phone I have no idea how this works.)

Does the n900 have a warranty if I buy it from Dell, or Amazon? Is buying an extended warranty worth it. I know when buying one for most electronics (supersonic) its mostly B.S.

So should I buy and extended?

Can anyone tell me how the Squaretrade Warranty works? If I pre-order the phone on amazon does the warranty start on ship date, or date of pre-order?
Should I buy the warranty once I get the phone, or with pre-order?

I'm going to get two phones, so when I get the Warranty do I have to give a S# of one of the phones for the Warranty?

Thanks

You get a 1 yr manufacturer warranty (from Nokia). If you have a credit card in the USA your credit card may offer an additional year warranty if you buy the product with the credit card (E.g. my VISA card gives me an additional 1 yr warranty) so I am now covered for 2 years.

The SquareTrade warranty, has to be bought off Amazon (for $50) but this requires you to buy the n900 from Amazon. This one is for 3 years. You can buy the warranty from SquareTrade directly but it will cost more than $50 (though not now with holiday discounts) and will cover you less (2 yrs instead of 3). These warranties start the moment you buy the device so in reality your only covered for the two years after the first year's manufacture warranty expires.

For SquareTrade you need to send them your invoice of wherever you purchased the the device.

How do you know if your credit card is eligible for the extra year warranty?

Best way though is to call the customer service of your credit card and inquire to make sure.

$50? Where is that? I could only find this (http://www.amazon.com/year-Electronics-Warranty-Guarantee-Protection/dp/B002NNK6HE/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1258920051&sr=1-1) Or am I looking at the wrong thing?

Though this does not cover accidental damage (drops, spills, etc..). The one you posted covers drops, spills, etc..

Actually the warranty from Amazon doesn't require you to purchase the phone from Amazon--that's why you can go back at anytime and purchase the warranty solely by itself. Just like SquareTrade selling warranties directly from their site, Amazon is doing the same but at the lower price of course.

Never had a cell phone???? Why?

Um, from Amazon's site, under "Other things you should know":

Your item must have been bought on Amazon. If you bought your item elsewhere, please call us at1.877.Warranty.

I bought my E71 off of NokiaUSA a while back, then went to Amazon and purchased the extra warranty. Now given I didn't see what you just quoted but I had no problem getting it setup.

So should I buy the warranty when I place the pre-order, or wait for shipment then buy the warranty?
