Just got my N900 from Nokia NY store. Live in UK so set time zone to UK. But as I am in New York I am trying to set it to NY time till I go back. I have gone to the World Clock and added NY but the device does not seem to allow me to set NY as my time zone like I used to on my previous N Series phones. It just shows me local time in NY when I select it but once I come out the device is sho. Surely you can put a list of world clocks on device and select which one you are in at the time and the time automatically sets the clock for you? Or is this one of the many very basic functions we had in symbian that are missing in this device?

Also can't you set a personalised alarm for the clock? I have copied my ring tones to the device but when I try to change alarm tone it only gives me the option for the 3 default tones. I have tried selecting add tones but it just says no files.

Also how do you add birthdays apart from in the phone book? Want to add my baby's birthday but it only seems to allow me to add as event which shows up in the private or N900 calendar and not in the birthdays' calendar.

Thanks. Kind of silly though. So have to create a contact for an 8 month old who isn't going to have a phone or email for like another 8 years.

Also I thought you could see the different calendar colours (pink, blue, green) on the calendar? I only see grey.

Probably Nokia never thought someone will need a birthday reminder for his son / daughter :) At least that you probably should remember and dont use your knoweverything device :) At least his first birthday, since he's 8 months old, most likely by the time he will be 2, you'll change the phone by a new model :)

I don't understand what you mean by this. Can you clarify?

Anyway, even on S60 you're not supposed to set your time zone manually. If network time is on, it will always show the local time of the network.

On N95 I put different time zones on my world clock for places I usually visit. When I travel to a new location I just go into the world clocl and select the city I am in as current location and it would switch the phone time to the time in that region. On N900 when I select a city it just shows current time in that city without changing phone time. Is it only meant to switch based on network? What if you don't currently have a sim card in (like me right now)? And how did it work on old internet tablets that didn't have sim card slots.

On 5800, go into Settings/Phone/Date and time. There, change "Time Zone" to "Local Time" and "Automatic time update" to on. Then only use the world clock to show world clocks. If you don't have a SIM, I'd assume you'd need to manually change your time zone from the settings menu.

I don't know how it works on Maemo. I'm still waiting.

Please see enhancement request 5683 (https://bugs.maemo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=5683). If you feel it fits the problem you'd like fixed, please vote.

Prior to Maemo 5, there were two clocks available: Home and Destination (if I'm recalling the names correctly). To swap them when you reached your destination, you manually reconfigured each one. And then you did it again when you returned home. Yeah.

Okay thanks. Have tried to register a bugzilla account twice so I could vote on some enhancements but was never sent a password. Will try again.

you can set personalized alarms for the clock by just adding them in. I was able to add it from my SD card, maybe you just misplaced it in a different folder?
