I got asked if I could do a bootvideo for the Mer project, so I gladly did. I tried to follow the awesome underwater theme created by wazd and came up with this:

avi xvid/lame dl:
http://castus.dnsalias.com:8080/share/mer_bootvideo_800x480_mstrcomp_draft1.avi

ogv Theora/ogg:
http://castus.dnsalias.com:8080/share/mer_bootvideo_800x480_mstrcomp_draft1.ogv

Please give comments and suggestions for improvements.. thank you!

I love it.

Animation might even look good played back unnaturally fast, total time 1 second.

Might look good if the m e r text fades-in without the bubbles, and then the bubbles freeze in-place at proper position while bleaching to white.

Some people might prefer more bling-lighting from waves/sun above.

Also perhaps a different fade-in effect for logo; at start, logo is strongly blurred and dark and sort-of appears coming out of the deep blue.

- just ideas if you want to play more. looks fine to me as-is.

1- Copy the video to /usr/share/hildon-welcome/media
2- Go to /etc/hildon-welcome.d/ and edit the default.conf file or create a similar one (the videos will play by the alphabetic order of the .conf files)

That is just beautiful!

Is this made with After Effects or what?

I like it. When will the OS be ready to be the only OS on my N800?

Thank you, those are all great suggestions. I think it would be cool abit faster too. Its very calm and dreamy in this phase, but that is good too. I will try to tweak those bubbles abit faster..

That bubble idea with some actually freezing in place forming the logo is great. I see if I can mange to keyframe those bubbles seperatly from beneath to inplace. Should work..

More shine from the surface is possible. I usually put on more from start but then in the finishing process cut down on most of them.

I agree that logo entrance does need some work. I will see what I can do there..

link should work.. please try again..

That's really nice :)
Is there some sort of hard-coded time-constraint limit to boot-up video's duration (apart from good common sense)?

I love it - but some constrcutive criticism.

The whole thing is very realistic but the main bubbles look a little fake and that spoils it. I think they're too sharp and in focus and could be a little softer. The general water effect looks very natural and the bubbles not so.

That said I'll be putting this on my N900 if it ever arrives.

thanks, I don't think there is a time limit. This one is 10sec.. thats the longest as bareable I would say. Maybe even abit long..

thank you.. I agree with the bubbles. They don't look very realistic, there is a Finding Nemo feel over them.. I think they are to big.. smaller and as you say abit mote out of focus would give it a more realistic look.

That's awesome definately should be the stock Mer boot screen. I'd actually reboot intentionally to show people :P
