in the UK phones are not really on general supply yet, wait till we get ours all sorted and you have a better chance of us trying it. I'm an Ubuntu user and will be testing it when I get my phone...

Nobody is able to sync with Linux here? Nokia done it again-- killing two birds with one stone: making a linux based phone for windows users, fantastic.

You can connect the N900 to Ubuntu for cellular web access, there is a post on this very forum about how to do it. There is also a bluetooth DUN package in the repositories to make enabling blutooth DUN easier.

Here is the thread: http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=32018

Thanks but what I want to do is to sync my calendar with the phone. What is being talked about in the other thread is more like bluetooth tethering with the phone for wireless connection. I am not interested in that. Anyway to sync calendar with the N900 via bluetooth on the N900?

I'm not entirely sure I'm afraid, having never needed to try. Maybe someone else can suggest a solution.

I did see a linux version of PC Suite in development somewhere but I'm not sure it was that feature rich yet.

Personally I sync over the air to my Google calendar with http://nuevasync.com/
My Google calendar is also synced to Thunderbird on my Ubuntu desktop. Works very well.

Once you have connected you n900 to your ubuntu box via whatever means you like (usb/bt) then its just a question of "how do I sync (whatever I use for PIM data on my ubuntu box) and the n900.

I do it via the sky - ubuntu syncs to google, n900 syncs to google (or ubuntu to google to exchange to n900 if I'm going for extra difficulty points)

There is no pc suite for linux though, that is true.

I've had a try sync-ing with Karmic 64-bit and my N900, using the same technique for previous Nokias like my N95. This means grabbing the SyncML Server channel on Bluetooth, then using multisync. It always hangs on the Bluetooth connect. I tried logging but the OSYNC_TRACE produces huge volumes of data which doesn't mean much to me :-(

I have got WinXP running in VirtualBox with Nokia PC Suite - and that reads the contacts off the N900. Pretty much all that is needed to make this happen is to add the N900 as a USB device in VirtualBox.

I've copied my /home folder off the N900 and will pull that copy to pieces later to see what is going on with the file system. I like to know where things get stored :-)

yup - only way i could do it was using nuevasync - i have same desktop setup as above using thunderbird, lightening etc to google calendar and then mfe to nuevasync to n900

Nokia should really write their Ovi/PC suite in Qt and be done with it once & for all. :D

There was a solution called "opensync" which worked perfectly with N95. However, something in N900 is changed and opensync doesnt work any more. The bug for this is marked as invalid (https://bugs.maemo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=10023)
. :(

Yeah, I tried that too and got the same error. Is it opensync or the N900 that is preventing us from syncing via bluetooth. If it is opensync, why does it work with the N95?

There is some progress. Look here (http://talk.maemo.org/showpost.php?p=650570&postcount=2).

Ultimately, with Ubuntu One now being the subject of a big push by Canocial, I would hope the N900 will get support from this (I am also a fellow Ubuntu user and ditched Windows a couple of years ago).

Since the release of Lucid a couple of weeks ago a lot more people are trying to get onto Ubuntu One than ever before and this is causing a lot of problems with capacity. The Ubuntu One team are working on this, so I suspect over the next few weeks this is all they will be doing. After this though, and in fairness their team is very fast and hard working, they will start to look at other things. Phone syncing is in beta on Ubuntu One right now but the N900 is not supported.

You can add your support to this group - https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntuone-client/+bug/512052 - and hopefully the more people who do this, the more likely it is the phone will get supported.

The phone sync on Ubuntu One is a funamobl server, and I have having zero luck in getting it to work for me. If anyone makes any progress please let us know.
