I seen more criticism than positive input about the new 2.1 update for OS2006...
I want to update but my 770 is running very smooth with OS2006 first release and I dont want to go thru the head ache of re installing all my apps if is not worth the upgrade.
Should I update or should I stay as is until a major release?

Thanks in advance!

That's pretty much a fact of life - with any product you'll always see more negative comments than positive comments. People don't bother posting "Works for me!" (unless they're an AOL user!) but do of course post when they have a problem.

BTW, OS 2006 2.1 (Scirocco) works for me! ;)

If you're running very smooth on 2.0 and you don't want the headache of reinstalling, my advice would be to wait until the next major release or you need to install an app that is incompatible with 2.0.

If it ain't broke don't fix it; the changes in 2.1 improve stability slightly but add no new features.

Scirocco works for me as well....It tends to crash on me when I tried stuffs that are of 'unstable" release!

It works great for me too.

Don't be afraid, update!

I've heard (meaning: I'm pretty certain I read it somewhere but, being an old fart, can't remember where for the love of bytes) that the update improves character input significantly.

Can someone (and preferrably more than one person) confirm or debunk that rumour?

If you use the thumb-board, the uprade is worth it. Not only is input more accurate, but 2.1 fixes a bug when you are using the thumb board and re-orient the cursor with the hard key. K.

That's right, I have found using the thumb board is a lot more usable and have finally started getting used to using it to take quick notes on the move. The Opera browser is also a little better than before. I can't wait to see what improvements come in the next update.

I hate the thumbboard.

I mean... No, I just hate it. It just doesn't work for me.

I upgraded because Bluetooth keyboard support (via the Bluetooth plugin) didn't work with 2.0 (the original 2006 OS release). In addition to being able to use my Bluetooth keyboard again, I've found that 2.1 (2006SE) is a bit more stable and slightly faster at some things (although not dramatically so). Also, with an appropriate Chinese font installed, the newer version of Opera will display Chinese, which the version in the original 2006 release didn't do, so that's an unexpected bonus (and would have been enough for me to upgrade).

If I didn't need Bluetooth keyboard support and I didn't care about displaying Chinese/Japanese/Korean on web pages, though, I wouldn't have bothered upgrading. The speed-up is noticeable, but just barely.

Oh, another nice thing added by the new release is support for 2Gb RS-MMC cards, but there's a kernel available for the original 2006 release that supports 2Gb cards, so I was already using one. It's nice to have that supported without having to flash a custom kernel, though.
