I find it hard to connect and disconnect the usb cable with my left hand. The connector should've been on the right side or on the bottom. Anyways, it's too late for that now.

Try turning the phone round when you want to unplug the cable?

Actually this isn't as daft as it sounds. If you think about the portrait orientation it should have been 180 degrees to the current implimentation. That way you could have popped the unit on a usb dock or car kit. It would have required the earpiece the other end though for portrait orientation in normal use but something to think about for the next handset maybe?

Can you imagine the effort that it would require? Not only turn it aroud but turn it back too once done :D

The left handed comment itself is downright stupid (if you cant plug that USB cable in there is something serious wrong with you, and i said that having a left hand i can't do much with at all, just use your right hand!)

But yes, if it was on the other side it would have been better if a dock became available, but if there was a dock available couldnt the portrait orientation be flipped the other way? if it's docked you won't be holding it to your head to talk!

I'm going for "he was being funny" - it *was* funny. Hm... well, wait....

The plug is on the top when used as a phone. Yeah, it's on the wrong end. Plugs belong on the bottom so you can use the thing plugged in.

Problem is that on the top of the phone theres already volume buttons, on/off button, camera button and infra-red sticking the port up there would solve this pust but another one would come "Too many buttons on the top of the phone".

And I agree with the post, its a pain to send a message when the thing is charging.

Another way to look at it is that for users accustomed to the previous tablets(770/N800/N810), on all three the power plug was in the middle of the right hand side, so that's where we tend to look for it...

Not to mention that plugging in the round charger tip was much easier that the USB plug. I know I can't do it by feel/in the dark, I need to look closely and in good light.

It wouldn't be as much of a problem if I wasn't also recharging two or three times as often as before... :-)

why would a stand need to hold the phone in portrait mode? As its sta here on my desk on its kick stand teh cable on teh left means its nicely out of teh way of my keyboard yet I can see and IMs etc coming in quite nicely.

A nice black perspex builders 'hod' type shape with the USB fixed in so I could slot in and slide to the left to dock would look lovely IMHO

I was thinking more along the lines of in car use too. The N97 has a landscape holder but it can't fpllow the suggested config as has to cope with lateral movement too.

The other more obvious point is it would work better for all the fruitphone style speaker enhancements etceteras as well.

The device is totally backwards. The USB plug is on the top and the headphones are on the bottom. This is the opposite of every thing else on the market. Sometimes different is better. When it isn't, it is just plain irritating.

This is sth that I've been ranting about aswell. I'd really like to hear what was the designer thinking when he made this odd choice.

Another thing is the lock-lever whitch is totally at the wrong end aswell and it's actually useles since you can lock/unlock with powerswitch :D

either side is annoying to be honest. hard to type with earphone OR usb plugged in XD.

well in Nokia's defense, the old iPod Nano had the earphone jack at the bottom too haha

I'm left handed but it's still stupid to have the cable go UP when i talk and I'm charging rather than just down as it was on the n810.

I also find it stupid. I like to use hands- free but when you need to write sms it is impossible because headphone jack is sticking out.
Try to type sms or play game that require keyboard, while charging the phone and using hands-free.
That's F impossible. i think designers were F drunk or they are ******ed.
Ok if you did something like that give us bended usb plug-in and bended headphone jack.
I am trying to find some kind of bended connectors, nothing yet.

i know one way to have hands-free without any cords or connectors going to the device. so there is no need to whine about using hands free rendering texting impossible.

p.s. You haven't done any designing yourself, have you?

I guess I am the only one who likes this setup then. I'm currently writing this with USB plugged and I really like the fact cord goes outwards on the supporting hand side. Balancing is easy and the cord is not in the way of the moving right hand. I also think the lock slider is in perfect position for the same "support left use right" reason.

I agree that calling is stupid with USB plugged, though I often use the speaker if I have privacy.

You can't really do anything about it now.
You want them to change the USB port to the other side??

Also it's irritating for me to have the ear/head phone cable on the right rather than top (with the power button) making it extremely irritating when typing but seems reasonable for those putting the device in pocket.

Count me up as another one who likes the current setup. I like the unlock key on the right-hand side (right hand, because landscape mode is the primary mode for this device). The unlock button has to be dragged down, which is less accident prone (in a pocket) than if it was enough to just press the key on the top.

USB on the left hand side I have no problems with. The device is on the table almost all day, and using it as an actual phone is a tiny fraction of the day. So to optimize for the latter isn't much of a point, the way I see it. If the USB connector was moved to the other side then something there would have to move to the opposite side, and I don't want the unlock button on the left - I use it all the time, and USB only rarely. That the current USB location should be 'optimized' for left handers I don't agree with - it's the opposite: Used rarely, therefore on the left.

I am talking about hands-free, if you talking about something without any cords or connectors its ether bluetooths or loudspeaker. Don't bee too smart please.
Maybe you know how to charge the phone without any outside devices and any cords or connectors going to the device?
Usb connector and hands free connectors should be bended so, cable would go up and you could hold your phone normally while charging and listening music.
No I am not a designer! I know that it was impossible to make those holes somewhere else but it is easy to make connectors banded.
