Complete newbie as far as Linux is concerned.

I want to install Linux on my Windows XP Machine and have just installed Sun Virtual Box. Two questions: Which flavour of Linux should I install so that I can have a go at developing for the N900 (a hello world app) would be impressive for me at the moment. And how would I install Python within this environment.

Hi

if you want to create your own image I would suggest to take the latest ubuntu and then getting the gui installer for the sdk from forum nokia (http://www.forum.nokia.com/info/sw.nokia.com/id/c05693a1-265c-4c7f-a389-fc227db4c465/Maemo_5_SDK.html) and follow the installation process.

If you are planning to use the eclipse plugins you could get a fully configured image from here (http://tablets-dev.nokia.com/maemo-dev-env-download.php). I would suggest you to download the prefinal2, which contains the final sdk.

There are as well further information about the vmware project (http://maemovmware.garage.maemo.org/) and the sdk (http://wiki.maemo.org/Documentation) in general.
