Have contacted vodafone and they do not have settings, so sent me ones which are similar.
It does not work.
I have the 2G/3G symbols, so I presume my sim card is new enough?
Anyone using a vodafone contract + N900?
Hey mate,
i actually had to do this earlier today, what you have to do is goto.
settings>internet connections> connections> vf web (or what ever your vodafone profile is) edit>next
in access point name you need "vfinternet.au"
click next>advanced
in http proxy you need to enter "010.202.002.060
hit save> finish and then enjoy :D
Vodafone operates in quite a lot of countries, so maybe you both should first disclose in which country you are. I don't think the settings are same globally.

Interesting. I'm in the same boat so appreciate the help. Problem though is when I go through this sequence I only get WLAN options. What am I missing?

I am also looking for some help on this as I have moved my sim from a N97 with 1200 mins - unlimiited texts - unlimited web to my N900. Visited local Vodafone shop and was as much help as a chocolate teapot.
Based in the UK here and would love some help with this.

It should automatically set your internet settings when you insert the sim, thats what mine did (Also on Vodafone UK - Contract). I didn't have to do anything.

This should tell you your APN for Vodafone in your country.
regardless; if they say its not a supported phone, it should still work fine.

at least in germany I'd expext them to provide settings since they already offer bundled contracts with N900 ;)

Well I had my SIM in the phone, but the vodafone idiots did not move the number from the old SIM, they made the old SIM the contract!
Any chance you can tell me the settings?
Go to
Settings > Internet Connections > Connections
Then pick Contract Internet or what you have for vodafone and EDIT

just got my bill in the post and I have been charged for internet when I have unlimited web. vodafone shop is no help.
Anybody in uk can help with this ?
You can get your operator 3G/GPRS settings automatically installed for free at http://tweakker.com/settings
Just select your country and type in your mobile phone number and follow the flow. When you have completed the flow you will receive the setting and you can "install" it on your mobile. *use the guide for the installation"

Tried this, selected Nokia N900 and it sent the details etc.
It does not work though, 'Internet connection failed. Try Again?' message shown.

Try this
Connection name: Vodafone Internet GPRS
Connection type: Packet data
Access point name: Internet
username: web
password: *** (which I presume is also web)

Weird. I have a UK vodafone sim and it works when I set up internet on the N900 through Tweakker! Do you want the parameters or a guide to install the setting manually?

Yeah dennis, post the settings. Internet / login wap / password : wap does not work.

Here you have 'em:
uk,vodafone,iap-gprs-access-point-name,Internet (<--APN)
uk,vodafone,iap-gprs-auth-name,web (<--LOGIN)
uk,vodafone,iap-gprs-auth-secret,web (<--PASS)
Try and type in APN, LOGIN and PASS to begin with and see if you can connect with that. If vodafone UK require advanced settings then try and fill in the following parameters in the "advanced" menu.
uk,vodafone,iap-gprs-port,9201

If not, you should ask for help on the forums on Tweakker (http://tweakker.com)

I'm more interested in the vodafone italy settings, can i use the wap access point? or is it only possible with the web access point, which costs a lot more..
As far as I know N900 doesnt support the WAP protocol. If you wanna save money you could still go with the web APN and only load wap pages, but that seems pretty dull when you own the wonder tablet of internet browsing :)

Hmm. Seems really weird  And it didnt work with just *Internet* as APN and *web* as login and password? Do me a favour and try with only typing in APN *Internet* and leaving the rest blank. If this doesnt work I'll try and screenshot how the numbers should be entered.

Nah, it still doesn't work. Re-downloaded from tweeter and same thing.
It should automatically set your internet settings when you insert the sim, thats what mine did (Also on Vodafone UK - Contract). I didn't have to do anything.
After you insert a SIM, the N900 sets up GPRS using the MCC and MNC values from your network to look up preset values in the file /etc/operator_settings. At least, that's what it looks like.
Unfortunately the values in that file are wrong for some SIMS.
For me, it produced the wrong values for both Vodafone UK PAYG (it chose access point "Internet" which doesn't work), and for GiffGaff (which it wrongly gave O2 settings that don't work on GiffGaff.)
A big problem is that MCC and MNC values are not sufficient to identify which GPRS settings will work, so the concept of this file on the N900 is flawed.
For Vodafone UK PAYG, use these settings:
Access point: pp.vodafone.co.uk
Username: web
Password: web
There is no need for a proxy, although in theory a good proxy choice might make browsing better, or worse.
For Vodafone UK Contract, some people have reported success using access point "pp.internet" and the same username and password as above. There may be some confusion between phone contracts and data cards (contract or PAYG), though.
Isn't it possible to read the right setting from the SIM itself?
Does anyone know of a tool for displaying SIM contents?
Hi again.
Okay. Try with *pp.vodafone.co.uk* as APN and *web* as login/pass without typing anything in the advanced settings.
*EDIT* I replied from a window that wasnt refreshed so I didnt realize jjx already had written that
I don't know if APN's are case sensitive but if you havent tried that yet, try typing in *internet* (instead of *Internet*) as apn and web as login/pass
Anyone else who currently have the N900 working on the internet on the Vodafone UK network ?

Thanks for all the help guys.

Hi everybody,
I have the same problem, but I live in Germany,
Got the n900 from amazon, went to vodafone and got the internet flat rate.
But when i try to connect to DF DE Web, I always get the message "Internet connection failed"
I can see that its a common problem and that some of you have managed to actually get it working. Does anybody has the proper configuaration for Berlin, Germany?
Vodafone customer service says that "they dont support the phone"
Can anyone help me here?
Thanks!

Weird.
I just noticed my vodafone internet service is not working!
I think it must have stopped on Monday at some point but now my n900 seems to log-in but any attempt to view a site gives me a blank screen.
I get quite a strong 3.5G (Edinburgh) signal. The connection has been fine since I bought the n900 way back in December 2009 and until recently enjoyed my mobile internet.
I have tried the suggestions in this thread but nothing seems to work.
I'm stilling using the original firmware with the n900 and have not upgraded yet.
My battery level has dropped to 1/2 since full charge at 8am this morning - this is unsual. It is normally almost full at the end of the day.
Has anyone recently had vodafone connection issues.
P.S. The only thing that has changed is that I installed QT4 (4.7) & QT4 bindings for Pythonon Monday. Surely this is not the problem??

Just tested for you from Glasgow - my Voda connection fired up fine when I selected it (only 2G insde the house ...) and dispayed a web page ok. I'm on PR 1.1 (I assume you mean that, rather than that you are still on the 'real' original f/w?). Suggest a strategic reboot may be a good 1st step?

Contract Internet
APN: Internet
Username: web
Password: web
This is our default Contract customer APN for general internet use, and should be the default for any non-Vodafone or Live! related service (such as Google Maps, for an example).
What it’s used for: Go through this portal if you want to browse the web, connect to or send email from your mobile's built-in email inbox.
What it’s not used for: You cannot connect to Vodafone Live! via this APN (use 'Contract WAP', below)
Contract WAP
APN: wap.vodafone.co.uk
Username: wap
Password: wap
This is our default Contract customer APN for Vodafone Live! and Live! based services.
What it’s used for: Go through this portal if you want to browse Vodafone Live!, or make use of any Vodafone Live! services, such as Mobile TV.
What it’s not used for: You cannot access or send email from device-based email clients (such as Outlook Mobile, or a generic Messages inbox), nor will non-Vodafone internet-based applications work via this APN. For this please use the 'Contract Internet' APN
PAYT Internet
APN: pp.vodafone.co.uk
Username: web
Password: web
This is our default PAYT customer APN for general internet use, and should be the default for any non-Vodafone or Live! related service (such as Google Maps, for an example).

you do not need extra/advance settings just the above.
I recommend the one below because it does not direct you to mobile wap sites and works like normal internet.

I ended up installing the WML plugin for MicroB as found in the Diablo Extras repo. Gives some bare functionality and no adverts. You need the WAPAPN to get access to vodafone live

Thank-you everyone for your help.
For some strange reason the vodafone internet connection is now working!
I'm trying the connection here in East "The land of the free and the in-bred" Lothian and it seems to be working fine.
Maybe it is something local to the Edinburgh area.
Will try again tomorrow.

Similar problem. A new APN was created called MMS which allowed fMMS to work but normal internet would connect to MMS APN as well by default.
I ran the script /opt/fmms/fmms_config.py which didnt fix it.
I then uninstalled fMMS but now VF AU Internet APN no longer works so dont know what fMMS or possibly the script did.
Anyway after some fiddling and googling, I found that turning off the proxy seems to work for normal Vodafone Australia Internet:
Connection name: VF Internet AU
Connection type: Packet data
Access point name: vfinternet.au
username: blank
password: blank
http proxy: None
port: None
