n900 doesn't work with my nokia yet..
Wasn´t that just about your old phone?
I got a message about firmware for my old N95-1 yesterday.
ok, probably this is the reason. My old phone was a N95-1. In nokia account I removed N95 and I use N900 as phone only, probably their system inform me about N95 yet.
Thanks!

True for old Nokia Phones
http://www.symbian-freak.com/news/009/12/new_firmware_updates_for_nokias_exflagship_devices .htm
You need to update the details of your mobile device with Nokia (Ovi?) so you receive N900 updates in future.

It sounds like My Nokia should change their SMS texts to say something like "Software update available for N95" rather than just "Software update available for your handset" to avoid this kind of confusion.

Hi
i got this SMS today. What is this all about?
Probably a software update for your old Nokia phone, what device did you have before the N900?
Probably from old phone... and you probably signed up for it.

I received the same today and when I went to the nokia usa site the N900 is not even listed as a compatible device for the the software updater. The N900 is my first Nokia device.

I had an iphone before this. My last Nokia was ages ago.. A Nokia 6600..
I don't even think I ever registered it with my US number.

well if it came as as text messages then it most likely cannot be for the n900 because they have no way of knowing your number, they can only send updates through data. Just open the link and see what the upgrade is for...has to be for a phone you signed up with
Is there a new update available or not? The reason I'm asking this is because I got an email from My Nokia yesterday saying that there's an update available to my N900. Today I got a sms message from Nokia saying the same thing. Still I can't find such from anywhere. Not even a word about it in maemo.org either. I haven't tried pc updater though.
Is Nokia just so slow on everything as usual that they're actually informing me about the pr1.1 update that already got released almost two weeks ago? I didn't get any notifications from Nokia then.
Or is Nokia just teasing me since in their email they're promising more functions and better performance. New update would have been exceptionally fast action from Nokia...

Why not just go to the Application Manager on your N900, refresh for updates, and see what happens. If there's an update, then you've got it. If not, then not.

Hi Nozu, I've received the same SMS this morning! I've been refreshing the update page of my application manager in my N900 for hours, but still nothing. Maybe it was just a joke, maybe they are releasing a minor update and actually you can download it only with NSU...

I think it is just Nokia's poor logistics that inform you from that previous update. I think that their update news hasn't ever been on time.

I'm UK and haven't received anything like that... checked update manager earlier today and couldn't see anything either...

Watching Nokias attempts to communicate always makes you feel so sorry for them...
ARJWright,
I've done so already. But for example when pr1.1 got released other people in some countries saw the update while others didn't. So, there could be an update available although you can't see it in Application Manager. And sometimes different distribution channels work a bit different times.
danielz000,
I'm from Finland.
benny1967,
That is so true... =)

doesn't the messages from Nokia state a version number or any clue at all?

Same mail and sms in Spain... didn't try with PC software. May be an issue with ovi accounts? I registered after updating to .51

I installed the 1.1 about two weeks ago when it was released. The messages had no clues whatsoever... :/

I registered to Ovi way before the N900... and updated my Ovi account's device to N900 quite quickly after receiving my phone 4.12.

I used to get this with previous S60 phones. The texts were not in any way linked to the device.

Hey, that could be it! I know I haven't received any update messages. They'd be completely unnecessary for the N900 anyway, because of the excellent update notifications. I wonder how many poor, clueless N97 users are still on the first firmware.

I used to have E51 before this. The email from Nokia says specifically "update your N900 device". Shouldn't it say E51 device in that case?

I've receveid the SMS too, as you can see in the screenshot:
6508
It is in brazilian portuguese, but it means "There was a new software available for your Nokia N900. Update and enjoy the new functions. Access from PC nokia.com,br/softwareupdate"
Obviously is a message sended with a huge delay.

I got this email as well talking about a update to my n900. I'm not sure if they're lagged, or if Nokia has just gotten tired about telling people "this bug was fixed in the update, go get it". So they send the email out so everyone not tech savy who has this phone(but actually shouldn't have this phone) understands to update it.
There's people who just want a flashy phone, but I bet have never even connected the phone to the net..

I got the same SMS today:
"New software is available for your Nokia N900. To update and enjoy great new features go to nokia.co.uk/softwareupdate on your PC"
No sign of any update though.
