I've noticed lcd on n900 started to go down around 0.2-0.3 mm and make an annoying sound like low level squeezing sound.
try holding it on landscape mode and apply light poser from the Nokia carving through n900
Umm... doesn't happen to me.
However you should know that's not directly the LCD you're pressing on; There's some rough plastic combined with the touch-screen matrix, the lcd is behind those.

Well ...
1.) it is quite normal that it slightly moves up/down (minimal) for resistive displays.
2.) The sound comes likely from your loudspeaker!!! I also initally thought it were bad build quality, but this is pre-setted sound when pressing the screen .... :-)
If you don't like it, swhich it off!

Is it possible that this is the touchscreen vibration you hear? You can deactivate that in the screen's settings.

Asidana, you could also try turning the vibrate off, but leaving the screen click sound on at the lowest level. I like it best that way - got annoyed by the vibrate in the end (and it sorta kinda felt like the screen was giving in a bit when tapped).

yes I am also getting that irritating sound from screen.I'm sure that it is comming from screen not from speakers.I even get this sound when the phone is switched off.
as said before resistive screens do flex when you press them, its nature of technology and not fault of any kind
next time you got to super market ask at checkout if you could have a feel, larger screens show this even more

i used 6 different WM phones. non had this issue
you just didn't notice, and it is NOT an issue.
resistive touchscreen MUST flex to work, so ALL of your WM phones had flex when touched unless they were not resistive type of touchscreen you just didn't notice it is happening.
i got 4 devices in front of me and they ALL act same way, some more than others but they all do, if they didn't there would be no way to register touch input.

i understand screen must flex but on n900 it feels a lot more. i can live with it but it will be annying untill i get used to

The N900 has a haptic touch screen. It therefore needs to move to activate the haptics.

you just didn't notice, and it is NOT an issue.ummm, you do see how badly you fail here, don't you? assuming, for the sake of argument, that he didn't notice it on other devices, if your point (about it not being an issue) was to be valid, he would have to not notice it on the n900 either.
i tell you what does fail
people that don't understand how some technology works and then refuse to accept the facts when someone explains it all to them.
Last week it was very cold, and after beeing outside for a long time, the screen was doing a "click" sound when pressing it, as if the 2 layers were disassembling each other. I was very worried, but when I went inside with higher temperature in the room, the "click" disapeared, so maybe you had the same problem

he didn't notice them? as in - they were there all along, but he unconsciously supressed that annoing sound in his fragile mind because it reminded him of his unhappy childhood? well, sir, that's one hell of a cluster**** of a fraudian mystery i tell you.
oh boy, i try again....
there is few different types of resistive touchscreens, n900 (as mikec said) uses haptic type, such touchscreen acts bit different then other resistive touchscreens, let me quote here something from n900 official features list: "The resistive touch screen includes haptic feedback so you know when you've pressed a key or onscreen menu"
so i recommend you read up about touchscreens variants before you post more nonsense.

hehe. nice try.
given several people have responded reporting they haven't experienced this on the n900, i'm willing to guess what the op is referring to is the same thing i've noticed: in certain conditions the plastic overlay is touching the lcd itself, and when it releases he hears a sound. i have the same problem, and i guarantee you, it's no feature nor any kind of intended haptic feedback implementation.

it's not heptic feedback,I think there is a gap between the metal frame and the screen.Everytime when the screen touches the metal frame it creates sound. The sound comes from the upper part of the screen(especially where "NOKIA" is written). The sound comes even when the phone is off.

Well, for what it's worth, my N900 screen doesn't flex in any noticable way, and it's totally flat (not going down), if you don't count the little raised section around the rim (which includes the NOKIA text).
As for sound, touchscreens will whine a little bit. Very high frequency sound. I can't hear it. The N800 does too, but I had to go to the the youngest member of our office (around 24) to find someone who could actually hear it, due to the frequency. I couldn't, but I had been told about the screen noise and thus the test.

I bet i understand how technology works more than you do!

Ok let's not all get aggravated here :)
Although no one seems to have this issue, who knows maybe you have got indeed a flawed model;
Just return it, nokia RMA never fails.
Good luck:cool:

you see; problem is some people do not read properly.
i did not say i don't want it. i did not say i have a faulty unit.
i've only asked if anyone else noticed same thing.
but some just jumbed on with an attitude.
that reply was not directed at you
