View Full Version : Extra Decoders Support for the N900

(Please let the old thread die)
I have estabilished a proper project page (http://code.google.com/p/extra-decoders-support-for-n900/) for Extra Decoders Support (was: Decoders Support).
The purpose of the project is to get some specific missing multimedia formats indexed and supported by the built-in Media Player on the Nokia N900.
I need a couple of things from you now.
The project needs a new, transparent icon, because the one it's using now is just ugly and when I made it transparent it's almost invisible on the dark background ondevice.
I also need translations for the name and description in different languages, so please post your translations here.
XB-Maemo-Display-Name: Extra Decoders Support
XB-Description: Support for additional video and audio decoders in the Media Player
Note to translators: "Extra" doesn't mean "great" in this context, but "additional". And don't worry about moving words around, make it work for your language.
Example in Polish (note the added locale code pl_PL, be sure to include the one for your language):
XB-Maemo-Display-Name-pl_PL: Obsługa dodatkowych dekoderów
XB-Description-pl_PL: Obsługa dodatkowych dekoderów dźwięku i wideo dla wbudowanego Odtwarzacza
Apart from translations and the icon you can donate via PayPal (dominikowskipics@gmail.com) to support the project.
Oh, and I'm aware of the fact that Tracker sometimes dies during installation (no files available in Media Player). You have to wait for Tracker to re-index files, the best way to do this is to turn the phone off and on again (this is actually optional, but somehow makes me feel better ;) ), start the Media Player and wait... wait quite a bit, depending on how large your multimedia collection is. I'm not doing anything evil or unusual with tracker, so I'm not sure what the problem is, any help in this regard is very much appreciated, because it doesn't happen all the time.

xb-description: Support for additional video and audio decoders in the media player
Here is fr_ca which will also work with fr_* (fr, be, ...)
Xb-maemo-display-name-fr_ca: Décodeurs A/V supplémentaires
(I find adding A/V (audio-video) clearer as decoder might be a bit abstract for mom&pop, ...)
xb-description-fr_ca: Support pour décoder davantage de formats audios et vidéos dans le lecteur de médias.

I tested your newest version in extras testing (0.3) and I had problems with it needing to uninstall it in the end. On install I noticed you added a new package, ogg-support. I then loaded a few ogg files and tested it out. The media player recognized them properly and played them alright although it took a while for them to start playing. The problem began when I tried to seek within an ogg track, causing the media player to bug out. The media player tried to seek but just returns the marker back to time 0:00. As of result, no other media is able to be played including MP3's or Movies. You select a different track (mp3) but nothing happens. You press play/pause but it does not start the music.
After this I rebooted my N900 only to find it very sluggish. Sliding between desktops was VERY choppy. The whole system/ui seemed to stutter alot and it was very noticeable during UI transitions. Even playing games such as Bounce or SuperTux which ran perfectly before became choppy now. I checked top in xterm and in Conky to see if there was something eating up cpu cycles but everything seemed normal on idle. I went on and uninstalled decoders support, rebooted the device and all was fine. Because of this I am reluctant to give it a thumbs down on the extras page.

I didnt check although I do remember seeing "tracker" something in top taking a good chunk during the sluggish startup but then the process disappeared. top showed the normal %1-4 of activity and even still it was sluggish everywhere. This prompted me to uninstall Extra Decoders Support after waiting for about 20 minutes to see if it went away.
Right now I'm trying to replicate the bug by attempting to go through the same steps (Ogg still bugs and locks media player when attempting to seek) but I cant seem to reproduce it. I'll let you know if it happens again.

Great work here. Just one question I can play Realplayer format files from filemanager but when I stream them from a site that says realplayer is needed it cannot read the file format and just hangs with a white page. This is the site
http://vip.tv-video.net/
My n800 used to play using a Realplayer plugin for Mplayer all be it a little bit jumpy.Any help would be appreciated. You can try it on the free videos.

I'll look into ASF and RealMedia streaming, but don't keep your hopes up, it's probably a limitation of the Media Player, adding the required decoders would most likely not change its behaviour.
Thanks for translations, I'll incorporate them in the new version after 0.3 gets into Extras. Keep them coming! :)
As for the error that makes your device sluggish and/or makes files disappear from the Media Player... sometimes the trackerd service does not restart after adding mimetypes. When you then start the Media Player, it triggers trackerd to wake up, but it will fail to re-index files in my experience. You need to turn your device off and on again, start Media Player and wait for a long while, the device may become sluggish while indexing/thumbnailing videos. Maybe it's because I'm using PR1.1 and tracker is more stable here than in PR1.0, but I'm running a 0.3.1 test version with absolutely no issues.
In any case, if anything unusual happens, please, please run tracker-status as a normal user (not root) in the terminal and let me know of the output. There's also a log file under /home/user/.local/share/tracker/trackerd.log that might have interesting information.

Double ditto on .asf. I've been waiting years to be able to listen to XM Radio online...thought I was there with flash support on the 900, but no joy.

Flac files aren't being picked up by my media player at all. They play when I open them with File Manager but aren't picked up in media player. Also no tag information (Flac IDV3) is being read and seek is disabled. Is there something I'm missing or are these limitations of the plugin?

This is sort-of being talked about in another thread:
http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?p=478028#post478028
It appears that after the Pr1.1 update, extras decoders support v0.3 with ogg support v1.05 no longer recognizes flac tags but can still play the files ok. this has been confirmed by another user MrThunderfield.
I will try installing the separate ogg support v1.6rc1 when the servers are online.

What did "he" do? nothing, your the one that installed it. There seems to be some hazardous side effects on the .3 package so I have not installed it, but I think the .1 is stable.
For now I would recommend trying to install .1 and see if it fixes the issue, also make sure you reboot your device.
In a worst case scenario you will maybe need to flash your device back to factory defaults.
Edit: dongzhe look down at the bottom of your post, there is an edit button :D

dongzhe,
I had the same problem as you did. Here is what i did to resolve it without re-flashing the device. First, I uninstalled the Extras decoder support v0.3, and uninstall the ogg support (i think that came with it). Then I switched power off and then power on. Then I switched power off again, and took battery out of phone for 1 min. Then put the battery back in and power on device. Now it was back to (normal) before I installed the Extras Decoder Support v0.3. Some how the Extras Decoder Support v0.3 had adverse affect on my n900, so I am not going to use it on my N900 anymore.

I read some issues with .3 before the PR update, but now with the update it seems even worse.
If you install MPlayer it will play a lot of formats and files that the standard Gstreamer does not and it has not seem to made any negative impact on my device. I recommend SIS for a frontend.
Oh dear. I've used statistical data from the video list on my PC trying to transcode failed videos.
It just hit me that all the videos that don't play in the 1.1 update all fall into two categories:
a) XVid
b) MPEG
Wasn't xvid native to Nokia's player (e.g. - not an extra decoder)?
Also, who's responsible for MPEG?
Nice touch is - my MPEG files still have icons from the 1.01. Pushing them shows a ding and a yellow notification. MPlayer plays them just fine from Morton.

hi guys, iv been using my phone from few weeks, i installed the extradecoder patch...all videos workd...almost all, i added 133 music videos...of various formates...like flv..mpeg1, mpeg2., avi, mp4... and i dont know like all i had.... 120 of them worked. no only 2 of the are working after i updadet to extradecoder 0.3..(it gave me a notifacation to update) i also updated the latest nokia maemo update...i dont know its the seond update since i got the phone.. so my point here....wat happen to all my videos..??? did this update screw up my phone? even when i uninstall it... i cant find the old package,....please let me know what i should do, or which other players are avalible that i can download..and not to mention... im not a pro or anything... so keep the language english here !!! lol !
a) Leave the phone reindex in peace. Takes a while.
b) There's a bug on bugs.maemo.org about the indexer stuck on one broken video.
c) Clear the cache and rescan. there's a post here, search forum for "rescan media (http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=36145&highlight=rescan+media)"
d) There's at least an issue on xvid (chapters) and one on MPEG (mine, unknown yet).
e) Clear cache, reboot, let it index an hour. Check back.
Also, using caps and the enter key makes the post easier to read and more likely to get help.

My xvids seem to play fine still after the update. Only broke the tag reading of Flacs which is now working with an update of the Ogg support to 1.06-rc1.
A bit off topic but tried streaming xvids via the upnp from my windows pc and the video won't play just audio. Is this an issue with the N900 or windows?

Man the scrolling is way looser/faster now after the new update, seems my media files load faster too.

If anyone is having problems after the upgrade to the newest firmware (2.2009.51-1) and Extra Decoders Support 0.3, try this solution:
Install the rootsh package using the Application Manager if you haven't already.
Open the X Terminal and execute these four commands:
sudo gainroot
We now have admin rights. Be careful. :)
apt-get purge decoders-support ogg-support gstreamer0.10-rm gstreamer0.10-musepack gstreamer0.10-ogg gstreamer0.10-theora gstreamer0.10-flac gstreamer0.10-flv gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg
When asked, choose "Y" (yes) and hit Enter. We have removed a long list of additional decoders and meta-packages. This is just one command, so pay attention.
apt-get clean
Apt-cache is now clean. You can stop here if you want a pristine device, without any multimedia add-ons. There is really no need to re-flash if your device starts acting up.
apt-get install decoders-support
This command installs Extra Decoders Support 0.3 and pulls in everything you've just removed back from the repository. Give it time.
When I try to install 0.3 it wont do it and says Im missing these:
libc6 (>= 2.7-1)
libgcc1 (>= 1:4.3)
What can I do to fix this?

Please vote (http://maemo.org/packages/package_instance/view/fremantle_extras-testing_free_armel/decoders-support/0.3.4-1/) for Extra Decoders Support 0.3.4-1. 10 votes needed.
The changes in this version are relatively minor. I've added a confirm text with information about corner cases (tracker times out), there's a troubleshooting wiki page (http://code.google.com/p/extra-decoders-support-for-n900/wiki/Troubleshooting), some translations added (thanks guys!), re-added MKV support for Maemo 5 2.2009.51-1 release (PR1.1). Package is now compatible with both PR1.0 and PR1.1 with the same feature set.
Oh, and don't post in the other thread, I'm confused enough as it is.
Also, the playback issues you're having after updating to PR1.1 are most likely not related to this package.

It's virtually impossible for this package to mess something up, because it's impossible to overwrite decoder libraries from other packages. No vital configuration files are altered in any significant way. I have tested this package by running a clean installation (every dependency of decoders-support removed manually) and everything works fine.
Have you perhaps been messing with other, untested packages, such as subtitles support or other related ones?
I suggest reading the troubleshooting (http://code.google.com/p/extra-decoders-support-for-n900/wiki/Troubleshooting) guide and using the information from the "Re-installing from X Terminal" section.

Hi ,
First thanks for the job you did with Extra Decoders .
I have some questions who need answers, there's some codecs my N900 can't read for the moment :
++Real Media in .ram, .rm (cf RealPlayer in http://test.orb.com/streamtest/home.jsp)
++3gp Player (amr & aac) in .sdp (cf 3gp Player in http://test.orb.com/streamtest/home.jsp)
Are these codecs supported by your Extra Decoders ? Else can i expect they'll be supported in the future ?
Thanks for your answer.

No, streaming is not supported, but I'm pretty sure that at least the .RM (as well as RMVB by the way) format is supported if you try playing the file locally. Unfortunately streaming is a different beast and the Media Player is closed-source (https://bugs.maemo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1235), so we can't do anything about this.
I'm aware that different modules are responsible for streaming RealMedia content rather than playing it back locally, they are not included, but according to my sources, they will not work anyway.

Thanks for finding the offending package, and yes, please inform the author of Subtitles Support. PR1.0 and PR1.1 are unfortunately not compatible when it comes to GStreamer (some stuff has been moved around), so I suspect this is caused by dependencies that are mixing older and newer GStreamer packages. I don't see what is wrong with them at first glance though.

I can now play mp4 formatted Videos I purchased on iTunes.
And before you guys get excited, no, I haven't found an app that will play DRM'd video and audio on the N900. I... um... fixed the videos by killing the DRM headers. I paid for the damned things, I should be able to play them on what I want to play them on.

I tried installing this but it says
Application packages missing: libflac8
open x-term (you need to have "rootsh" installed)
1. sudo gainroot
2. apt-get install *libflac8*
(look at the number and size of the package(s) ... if that's too much you need to specify the *libflac8*-line in another way ... if it's only one package you should be good to go)

the app-manager stops if a conflict occurs.
apt-get may install the app anyway.
to fetch the missing dependencies/packages you can run "apt-get -f install".
(just another thing to try if there is a problem)

Don't know if this has been said in the past, but how do I get my music from itunes ( that I bought and downloaded from itunes ) to play on the N900 as everytime I try and play it, I get the damn "Cannot Play Copyright Music", I mean WTF!
You bought music that contains DRM that's only supported by Apple devices. Nothing Nokia or anyone else can do about it.
That said, you can always go back to the iTunes Store and pay Apple again to 'upgrade' your DRM'd tracks to remove that limitation..
Or you could just burn them to a CD and re-import them.

Probably no. And what would you do if it could? From small screen you can probably watch much lower resolution movies than what is its native resolution and you still wont notice big difference.
When I try to install 0.3 it wont do it and says Im missing these:
libc6 (>= 2.7-1)
libgcc1 (>= 1:4.3)
What can I do to fix this?
Trying to install 0.3.4-1, I still get this error.
Really dont feel like flashing my device because of this...
Is there a way to just ignore the error message and install anyway?

No, streaming is not supported, but I'm pretty sure that at least the .RM (as well as RMVB by the way) format is supported if you try playing the file locally. Unfortunately streaming is a different beast and the Media Player is closed-source (https://bugs.maemo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1235), so we can't do anything about this.
I'm aware that different modules are responsible for streaming RealMedia content rather than playing it back locally, they are not included, but according to my sources, they will not work anyway.
Hi,
I want to share my experience, as hopefully it can be of use for Real Media- related issues.
When still running PR 1.01, I installed Extra Decoders Support 0.3 and managed to run some .rm streaming files (for example, this one: http://www.radio.rai.it//grr/gr_3/archivio_2010/audio/gr3_20100119.1845.ram )
The procedure was:
1) Download the file (1Kb - pointing to the streaming content)
2) Open File Manager
3) Open the file with "Media Player (Extra Decoder Support)"
The file would play ok, including showing the title, provided I didn't try to pause it, stop it or fast forward through it. When attempting to do so, the interface of the Media Player would become unresponsive. The same file would not play from KMplayer. But the bottom line is: the N900 was able to play the file, somehow.
Yesterday I finally updated to PR 1.1 and to my surprise the .rm files now no longer play following the method above. When attempting to open a file in the same way, the Media Player would return a black screen with options to play the file but nothing happens if I hit play.
All this said, is there anything we can learn from this? It looks to me as if it's not impossible to play Real Media audio content on the device, but maybe something in PR 1.1 conflicts with Extra Decoders Support 0.3?
By the way, Extra-Devel and Extra-Testing are not enabled on my device.

Hi.
I bought the N900 and I've been trying to install the extra decoders support, but when i try to download it (regardless whether it's from extras or from maemo.org/download) it says that my installation packages are contradictory (or something like that, my phones in Finnish). Interesting, if anyone else is having installation issues, please refresh your Application Manager catalogues list, maybe not all of the dependencies got pulled into Extras, which should have happened automatically.
Anyway, I've set up a little PayPal page (http://stateless.jogger.pl/files/decoders_donate.html), where you can support the project. I've also updated the Troubleshooting page and the main project page (http://code.google.com/p/extra-decoders-support-for-n900/) with this information. If you like what you are getting, consider donating :)

@Tomaszd,
I've been playing around with a number of Real Audio files and found out that:
1. As you previously mentioned, there are no problems in playing downloaded real audio files (.ra). They can be opened in Media Player directly from the browser. The only minor issue is that Media Player doesn't read metadata such as the title of the track. Can you confirm this is a bug?
2. As per streaming files (either live or archived), no luck in playing them via Media Player. I can't recreate my original setup (with PR1.01 and Extra Decoders 0.3), but I know for sure I could play some .rm streams then. It would be great to rectify this, but I don't have other useful information.
3. However, I have found a way to play streaming audio with mplayer: all you need to do is select either mplayer or npp as player, and the files will eventually play (slow buffering). The same files would not work with osso.
4. I think I've spotted a bug in Extra Decoders though. If Extra Decoders is installed and I click on the url of a real audio stream in the browser, I am prompted with the option of opening the stream in KMplayer. When doing so, however, the url doesn't get ported to KMplayer properly and the operation fails.
Example:
type in the browser: http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio/listen/live/r1.ram
If you the choose to open the file in KMplayer, KMplayer will then attempt to open the following location: "/var/tmp/r1.ram" and obviously fail. The same happens if you try to save the link to the device and then open it from File Manager with KMplayer. The file will instead stream with no problem if one types the full url above directly in KMplayer.
Should I create a bug for this in bugzilla?
Thanks!

Hello, thanks for the OGG decoders support.
I am having a battery drain issue when playing ogg files, not sure if this is normal. I get CPU utilization of 30-50% and the N900 gets warm. The battery starts draining fairly fast.
With regular mp3s on the default media player, or with mplayer playing ogg files, the CPU utilization is around 10%.
Any idea what's going on or how to fix it?
Thanks
**EDIT** Just tried Flac as well, and I get CPU <10% while playing.

With mplayer and extra codecs installed, i tried a little experiment:
WMV 720p - plays, sound is great, video is pretty slow
MOV 720p - nope
AVI 720p - plays first seconds, then stops
MP4 720p - plays, sound is great, video is pretty slow
MP4 1080p - plays first seconds, then stops
MKV 720x576, Dual Audio, 3 Subtitles - plays, sound is great, video is pretty slow
I think the N900 is capable of playing 720p videos or mkv videos without bigger problems, but the software for it needs to be tweaked (since it's not officialy supported yet).

Sure:
WMV 720p: WMV9 video codec - 3300 kb/s, WMA audio codec - 192 kb/s
MOV 720p: AVC1 video codec - 5700 kb/s, AAC audio codec - 128 kb/s
AVI 720p: XVID MPEG-4 video codec - 4700 kb/s, PCM audio codec - 1411 kb/s
MP4 720p: AVC1 video codec - 3300 kb/s, AAC audio - 128 kb/s
MP4 1080p: AVC1 video codec - 3700 kb/s, AAC audio - 128 kb/s
MKV (720x480): AVC1 video codec - 1600 kb/s, 2 AAC audio tracks, 2 *** subtitle tracks
It's not a problem at all, i'm actually impressed with the N900 - plays regular xvid, divx, wmv, mpeg2, youtube mp4 files no problemo... i just though i'd do some tests :D

You got exactly that problem - gst-video-thumbnailred locks video accelerator. Even video from backside camera is not played.
Temporary workaround: Install KMPlayer and use it. But before use just verify that gst-video-thumbnailred was not started by standard system media player - don't use a standard system media player. Or go to X-Term shell and execute a command
killall gst-video-thumbnailerd
It can temporary unlock your video accelerator.

Seeing as how the N900 can't display or output close to 720p these kinds of tests are a waste of time. the device will only be scaling the video down and this looses quality; thus nullifying the point of the exercise.

I strongly disagree with cashclientel. Even though N900 cannot display 720p and will have to downscale the video, it would be very beneficial to be able to play these videos. For me the difference of using a mobile device as a media player is whether there is a need of re-encoding or not. If the videos play as they are, the device will be used - otherwise not.

Because it's not supported at the moment by the OS (software). The hardware can do it with ease. At least mplayer manages to start playing the files, unlike the default player which shouts "unsupported format". Give it time, sooner or later it will work. It's a miracle it actually can play most of the formats without the need for re-encoding out of the box. HD is just another ballgame.

In case anyone is wondering, we've streamlined the installation process, so once you upgrade to this version the next upgrades will be much faster and more robust. People who do clean installs of version 0.4 will see this already. We have updated all the plugins (this means e.g. seeking in MusePack files now works!) and added WebM support (they are indexed and work fine when played back from the file manager too). In order to get WebM, H.264 and Theora video tag support in the browser we'll need to hack up a plugin, but that's only an idea for now.

everything got fixed, please test and vote (http://maemo.org/packages/package_instance/view/fremantle_extras-testing_free_armel/decoders-support/0.4/).

Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling the package completely?
It'd be awesome if the camera could record directly in WebM instead of H.264 ;-)

I noticed in the project page that there are some .deb files. Does the extra-decoder package installed from the app manager contain all these packages (support for .mkv, .flv etc) ? I currently cannot play a .mkv . If i install the .deb package from here (http://code.google.com/p/extra-decoders-support-for-n900/downloads/list) will i be able to play .mkv files? Thanks.
I was going through the installed packages on my phone and i assume installing the extra decoders package will install all the packages mentioned in the project page.
I want to know is it possible to view 720P videos on my n900?

Did you run these commands as root?
For me they do not do anything as root (sudo apt-get update) and if I try to run them as user, then xterm asks for password.
I have the above mentioned problem in upgrading the Extra Decoders Support, unable to instal because the conflicting gstreamer packages.

I was able to reinstall both Mappero and Mirror after the update.

There seems to be a really weird conflict when this particular dependency is not versioned and there are other packages depending on it, I still cannot find anything unusual. I will check once again when I have more time.

Hi,
I have manually installed (x-term, i have a faulty wireless connection at the moment and just downloaded via usb all the files from packages) all the dependencies needed for the decoder. After installation and restart, my media player will not play any files, I can scroll through my list of music, but none of them will play.
I have apt-get purge all the gstreamers, decoders-support, ogg-support. The problem still persists... please help..

Hi there,
I have a problem. I installed EDS, and worked everything fine, exept the flac meta data reading in the Media Player. Later I solved this problem (re-encode the files with dbpoweramp and mp3tag), so from that point I saw the artist names, albums and tracks and album covers.
Yesterday the little yellow button said there is an update for ogg-support, so I installed it. After the installation when I opened the Media Player it said there is no music/video files..
I uninstalled the extra-decoders support, then the ogg-support, then I reinstalled the eds (with the built-in ogg-support), and I got my files back in MP. BUT THE FLAC FILES ARE NOT THERE AGAIN.. :(
I tried to re-encode the files again with dbpoweramp and mp3tag, but no use.
When I open the files from file manager it's playable but it says unknown artist/unknown song.
I'm out of ideas...
Please help!

I think there is an issue with one of the versions of ogg-support. I noticed this when I did a fresh install not so long ago. Which versions of EDS and ogg support do you have?
I have EDS 4.0 and OGG 1.0.6~rc1. I think it was 1.05 doesn't work, you may have to enable extras-devel to get 1.06.

I have exactly the same version of eds and ogg-support like you have.
But after two hours of doing nothing successful I convert my flac files to mp3. :D And of course it works. Wuhu. -.-
Recently upgraded ogg-support and all my music and photos disappeared from the mediaplayer and photo thing.
Solved by deleting the tracker db.

You can do it without any concerns and you can always go back (installing / reinstalling packages).
apt-get install --reinstall packagename
EDIT: Before running any of these commands that I posted, you need to gain root access, so first run:
sudo gainroot
Command "sudo gainroot" (or just "root") works only if you have rootsh (http://maemo.org/downloads/product/Maemo5/rootsh/) installed!

If you have failed to do that than try my steps:
0. sudo gainroot
1. in Xterm do this: apt-get install --reinstall ogg-support=1.0.5
2. if you don't get a notice for apt-get autoremove like 'kolos' said to remove these packages gstreamer0.10-av, gstreamer0.10-maemo-xiph and tracker-extractor-flac
3. than you need to remove them manually from FAM in Advanced category.
4. I think this is the simplest way how to fix it.

I recently noticed that my N900 refused to play .flac files for me.
After removing Extras-devel and uninstalling ogg-support and decoders support, then reinstalling them, flac files work once again.
Let's hope that there soon will be a new release in Extras-devel which fixes this. However it is outrageous that you uploaded a broken package.
At least please test the basic usability before uploading it.
updated to today's gstreamer0.10-av 0.5-6.
flac files playing works again.
no more need for downgrading!

hi i keep getting this message when reverting back to a earlier version of ogg.
Could not get files by MIME type, Did not receive a reply. Possible causes include: the remote application did not send a reply, the message bus security policy blocked the reply, the reply timeout expired, or the network connection was broken.
i typed this to revert
apt-get install --reinstall ogg-support=1.0.5
it repeats the above message about 5 times and in the end ogg is still installed.
i'd unistalled prior due to the alarm clock alert problem then this morning i noticed a newer version of ogg like a div i installed it.
any idea's?
update :
looked up installed programs and ogg.1.0.5 was installed, never remembered all the notices showing before.
shall i continue with apt-get autoremove to remove packages gstreamer0.10-av, gstreamer0.10-maemo-xiph and tracker-extractor-flac.
I would enable the devel repository and update ogg-support without downgrading.
latest update does not have the alarm clock alert or any other problem that I can see.

I've searched the thread and I have found 2 or 3 matches without any particular answer, so, here I'll ask:
Can someone download any new video (480p and down - mp4 won't play because is bigger than 800x480) in .flv from youtube and try to play using the EDS?
In my device it will just not work, will try to play and say that the media format is not valid. And I can't use other players because the main player is the only one that will catch the bluetooth requests (pause, next, prior) after locking the phone.
Here is an example of the type of file failing:

I have recently installed "Extra Decoders Support" on my N900 R1.3.
I can now play more videos; but I still can't play Flash files.
I have Flash and MP4 files AVC and AAC encoding].
The MP4 files will play; but the Flash files give "unsupported media format".
The file extension association seems ok... "
*.flv" files show up in my media library and if I doube-click on a "*.flv" in the File Manager; it tries to open it with mediaplayer.
I also had a MP4 file (encoded using AVC and ACC); but its filename [accidentally] ended in ".flv". This plays fine, too.
Any ideas how I can fix this???
I don't know if it will be on any use, but I have attached logfiles from:
dpkg --status decoders-support
and
