The N800 splash page (http://www.nokia.com/nseries/index.html?loc=inside,main_n800) shows the audio player applet with "88.7 Mhz" where the playing time normally apears. My N800 has a "/dev/radio0" device. This file does not exist on the 770. Some TI bluetooth chipsets have fm radio recievers. If the N800 does indeed have fm radio capability, I expect it would be from one of these chips.

Maybe that's the bit rate?

Maybe that's the bit rate?
The radio does not seem to be playing (the Play button is visible), and bit rate would be in kbps instead of MHz.

True. But if it can receive and play FM, I'll be very surprised...

use this to capture off that device (from an xterm prompt, possibly as root)...
cat /dev/radio0 > /media/mmc1/test.mp3
then try playing back that file. if the path /media/mmc1/ doesnt exist, replace it with a path that does exist.

Well... it would be nice if it turns up, but don't hold your breath: there were other features planned for the N800 that don't seem to have manifested. And no, I'm not telling what. :p

I think that is the name of the internet radio station equivalent to it's actual station.

"radio" is part of xawtv
/ $ cat /dev/radio0 > /media/mmc1/test.mp3
cat: Read Error: Invalid argument
/ $ /home/user/MyDocs/.documents/radio -c /dev/radio0 -qf 94.1
tuned 94.10 MHz
VIDIOCGAUDIO: Invalid argument
VIDIOCSAUDIO: Invalid argument
/ $ /home/user/MyDocs/.documents/radio -c /dev/radio0 -mq
muted radio

/ $
The radio must be either not yet supported or no longer supported.

Do you remember the microphone on the 770? Almost nobody knew for sure there was one until ITOS 2006 was announced. Maybe the radio will be the hidden feature reserved for ITOS 2008. :D *just dreaming*
Well, rumour (other than from texrat :-) has it there actually is a (hardware) easter egg in the N800 waiting to be revealed. No idea of what it could be myself, but maybe that radio stuff in the system is just a programmer's prank :-)

Glad to see it was there, but that's not the easter egg... :p
Is it the USB OTG power controller, then? i.e. powered USB peripherals?
Or... something else?

I have an N800. I checked, and installed the Fm.deb package, and do in fact have an FM radio! The interface is not that great, though functional, and it only works when you have a set of headphones (preferably Nokia) plugged into, as the chipset uses the headphone wire as the FM antenna. The application is actually a home-page plugin, and once installed you add it to the home page by clicking on the home link and choosing it from the application menu. A small window appears in the layout mode which you can move around to where you'd like. I've not tried using the radio with my Bose qc2 headphones, but I suspect it might work well that way. Helps to be near a powerful radio station as well.
Yet another feature that makes the N800 so, so cool!
