Check out the Nokia BH-214 (http://shop.nokia.co.uk/nokia-uk/product.aspx?sku=4005603&culture=en-GB). You can hook your own headphones to it if you like, or it comes with decent ones with a cable of good length. I use it with the N900, E71, and an iPod Touch
with no disconnect problems. If you have it paired with many devices, it may not connect with the one you want. :-)

For another interesting benefit, you can hook the BH-214 to a stereo or external set of speakers. You can then stream audio off the N900 which you're holding in your hand. This doesn't work if the music is being streamed in over WIFI though, as you get contention.

Hi All,

I have exactly the same problem using a BH-801.

Not getting the BT working on a perfectly good buisness phone is a pretty poor effort from nokia :(

Regardless... Does anyone have a fix or bug reference for the problem?

I can also confirm this bug on my Jabra JX10 Serie II headset.

It works at first - but then after some time, the headset seems connected on the phone - but is not.

If someone calls, I have to disable the headset to hear and talk to the person on the other end.

Can someone recommend me a Nokia headset? There are so many and I am confused.

Will a Nokia bluetooth definitely work no problems with the N900 or is the bluetooth bug affecting all headsets?

What about the Nokia BH 606 :

Allan:Check out the Nokia BH-21

Did you try it in the car?
If by using this, the disconnection problem gone, I dont mind to buy this.

its frustating since i have the same disconnection issue with Motorola T505. (This BT does not have problem with Nokia 5800 or Nokia E90).

For now, I have to use a painful old way: switch sim card to E90 whenever I want to drive and know i will have to use a phone.

Update: Same problem with Bluetooth on Garmin 765T.

This is the best phone that I ever had, but this bluetooth problem is annoying.

I have same kind of BT problem with N900 and my car bluetooth (bmw 530).

Pairing works fine but after that when you use paired and trusted BT connection, first it's get connected then disconnected then connected and finally it remains disconnected. I can have my N900 connected manually but let's think about usability, you need to do this every single time when you start the car!

Does anybody know, is there existing bug what can be voted?

No such connection problems when connected to my blueAnt z9i, which stays connected until I manually disconnect.

I did have a problem re moving files via bluetooth from the pc though; some mpe and video files get a "folder or file is write-protected" error message. The problem seems intermittent as I get it randomly. Good thing is that it is not specific to any file, as I can still send the same file that got the error from after rebooting the phone.

Initially, I was worried that my N900 didn't like Metallica.

Hi,

I can confirm that bluetooth stack is full of bugs.

If I boot my phone and after boot I make phonecalls with bluetooth headset Jabra BT-2020 after two or after randomly phonecalls cutting of connection to headset. Sometimes you can hear anything and sometimes it helps if you connect back to phone and back to headset. It helps sometimes that you boot(power off) and again two, three, four phone calls are ok and again headset connection is gone off.

Bluetooth is not working att all in N900 and I have newest software update used in N900

Bluetooth is working like heaven in iPhone. Newer ever any problems or broken connections between phone and same headsets used. Please fix bluetooth bugs in N900.

I tried the Jabra BT3030 yesterday and the audio sent from the N900 is low quality. I got home and connected a wired speaker to the phone and it was so much better!

MY bluetooth headset is pretty much became useless after i switched to N900, it connect and if the phone gone off to IDLE mode it will just never waking up ever again. My bluetooth just stuck in silent mode. The sound quality is very distorted and the only way to get the sound clear for a temporary seconds is while calling someone I have to enable wifi network and then disconnect it again. And redo the process none stop.

NOKIA seriously stuff this one up.

Hello everyone,

I have the Nokia BH-102, offered as an accessory for the N900 on Nokia's website, and my phone doesn't even see/recognize it.

I have no problem pairing it with my MacBook Pro or my GPS TomTom Go 720...

They're the same brand!

There's a problem with the Music Player widget on the N900 using bluetooth A2DP controls. When the widget has a playlist/song loaded, you can start and stop music without an instance of media player loading in the background. Without the media player running only the A2DP volume controls on my headset work... i.e. the skip track buttons dont work and it is really annoying.

My headset is Nokia model BH-504. I'm unsure whether my complaint above applies to every bluetooth headset but I'd assume so.

Has anyone else encountered this problem? Maybe it should be filed as a bug???

It's mystifying. I tried using A2DP on my Nokia N82 and it works flawlessly with the controls, playing music and using wi-fi with no drop outs. I really don't understand...

I have connection issues as well with my car (BMW 330).

Apparently, the pairing was fine--N900 detected the BMW Bluetooth and was able to pair with it using the correct pass code. But now, when I start the car, the car does not seem to be able to connect to the phone and the connection LED on the BMW (next to GPS) remains red.

I had same issue with my new Car stereo Kenwood KDC-X993.
It would connect no problem and then disconnect randomly within the next 5mins.

I have solved this probem. I believe by disabling Power save option somewhere on my phone.

I am now able to get in and out. receive calls No problem with no disconnects. My thoughts is its the phone power saving fucntion shutting down systems one by one saving power even Bluetooth.
My screen saver power down is still active.

It will not however obtain Contact list and hass issues with USB connect and detecting my MP3s.

I hope this helps. just throwing in my 2 cents. And I appoligize for punctuation as my Original g15 keyboard. all my right Pinky keys do not work ie comma colon. I have tried to fix this to no avail.

I have a problem connecting my N900 tot my Nokia carkit. It disconnects after a short while. When i do have connection between N900 and carkit the quality of speech is terrible. I can not hear what the caller is saying and vice versa.

The quality of bluetooth connection of my former phone, a Nokia N95-8gb was perfect. So it most work.

Is this a bug in the N900 and when is Nokia going tot fix it?

It must be a bug. I have the same issus with my Philips SHB9000 but the music quality isn't bad everytime. When it gets bad I just restart the headphone and reconect to N900 and the the problem has gone. But the disconnection problem when calling always occurs.

I have to report a similar issue.

What I have noticed is that if the device you are pairing with advertises A2DP as well as handsfree, like HFP, then you have issues. If just using it for handsfree, HFP or HSP and not flipping back and forth from A2DP.

Reason I have conclude this I had a stereo in my car, cheap Aldi one, that only did handsfree and had no issues.

I have replaced it with a stereo that does handsfree (HFP) and streaming (A2DP) and I am getting issues like above.

I am suspecting the N900 more than the Clarion car stereo.

Is there a bug I can vote for??

upgraded the firmware by air and it seems to be ok so far, used for about two weeks now, no more disconnecting from handsfree or bluetooth via my car. my firmware is 2.2009.51-1.002. give it a try!

I had the same disconnecting problem before I upgraded it, and had to switch back to my samsung i900 due to keep disconnect from car while driving, had to turn off the phone and restart, or the car.

i have a nokia ck-300 bluetooth car kit and my n900 works well with it while its connected but as soon as I get out of the car my phone does all sorts of crazy things including-
* freezing (sometimes to the point that battery needs to be removed),
*when i call people they cant hear me and I cant hear them (phone needs to be turned off and on to fix)
*in coming phone calls in general mode are silent without vibration (phone needs to also be turned off and back on to fix)

I took the phone back to vodafone a week after buying it and they gave me a brand new n900 in the box and the new phone does exactly the same. With bluetooth off the phone is problem free.

I also have a N900 and the Ck300 car kit, and am experiancing the SAME problems as above.

my ck 300 worked fine for months with my n95 8gb using the car menu application, but the nokia web site states the ck300 doesnt surport the N900, so i guessing we are up the creek without nokia surport.

im hoping some programing wizz will find a solution unless there already is one ???? ANY HELP

I have the same problem with my N900 and Nokia Ck-300 car kit. I had this problem before and after PR1.2. Has anyone found a solution please?

The phone freezes for anything up to a minute when selecting any applications. Then, usually the application will start.
When I make calls I can not hear the person on the other end (and they cant hear me).
I get "Unable to play media. Audio in use by another application." when trying to play music.

Restarting solves the problem.

I spoke to Nokia support and after I told them that I did a fresh install of PR1.2 (rather than an upgrade) using Flasher they would not give any further help until I used Nokia PC Suite to reinstall PR1.2. After doing just that Nokia suggested returning the N900 under warranty.

I dont really want to do this because its a load of hassle and I think that the same problem will come back.

I did have periods of weeks when the phone worked fine after disconnecting from te CK-300, but I dont know why.

I thought I had pinned it down to Firefox as it seemed to work fine after uninstalling Firefox but that was proved false after the last time I uninstalled it.

I have also tried uninstalling ALL applications using the App Manager but this hasnt solved it.

If you have some experiences in this matter that could be helpful.

Thank you.

Regarding the Ck-300 problem there is a bug that has been reported here - https://bugs.maemo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=9367

If you have experienced this problem adding your comments to it cant hurt and may even grab the attention of a bug fixer in the hope that they sort it out.

As an addendum to my pervious comments I have
1. uninstalled all applications with App manager
2. backed up to sd card
3. reinstalled PR 1.2 with PC Suite
4. restored from sd card

This didnt help at all, lol, sorry. Same problem. However I have had about a week of no problems, ending today when my n900 froze up again.

The only thing different is I followed the suggestions give on the bug.
1. I installed rootsh (download from apps)
2. In X-terminal typed "sudo gainroot"
3. typed 'killall -9 pulseaudio'

Now, I dont profess to know anything about how this works or even if I doing it right but it may be linked to my week without problems. Let me know if you get any joyplease.

I keep experiencing problems with BH-214 after PR 1.3. A problem to be precise. The answer button doesn't answer nor hangs up at all. Double press does not redial last number anymore as well. I remember this working some months ago. But I can't just recall since what it gave up working. Media buttons work from time to time. Is it possible to fix it as it has been wonderfully done with OBEX PBAP support on N900?

The pairing on BH-214 was unusual to me: while the headset is off you just have to press and hold the power button on it until the light near the button goes fast blue blinking. Then you can catch the pairing on the phone's side. It asks no password.

I am using a Nokia BH-505 with my N900 since half a year without any problems for music listening and phone talking. Works reliable as it should. Like the fact that all the music player control buttons of the BH-505 work with the N900 Media player.
Only drawback is you can loose those tiny plastic in-ear caps easily.

Not sure if anyone mentioned this but there is a bug report: Bug 9367 (https://bugs.maemo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=9367)

I am having the sound freezing problem, etc. too with my KIA. Having to reboot to fix things every time was a real pain. After some searching, it looked like a lot of people in the android community were having similar problems when A2DP support was added. I decided to disable A2DP to see if that was the problem and it is!

So A2DP is causing sound policy problems and needs to be fixed. In the meantime, one can disable it by uncommenting and changing the "Disabled=" line in /etc/bluetooth/audio.conf to be:

Disable=Control,Source,Sink

and then reboot.

Thank you so much, you have saved the life of my N900!

Because of the CK-300 problem I was at the point where the N900 was about to be retired and I was about to move onto another phone.

Now however you have saved it for me. I can now use it with the CK-300 and not have to restart or access x-terminal to type in "sudo gainroot killall -9 pulseaudio" each time.

I love the N900 and now I dont have to kill it.

You have made my day.

my problem is i can connect to n900 so easy with sonyericsson bluetooth. i can talk and listening to music really clear. however, the phone just not transfer sound to my bluetooth after 15 or 20 mins conversation. i noticed that my music sound still transferable. but cannot talk anymore, nomater how many time i reboot and re-pair the device.

i've tried with your method above. but it already disabled at the line. but my file shown only Disable=Control,Source no sink. so i added "sink" then reboot, still not solved the prob.
any idea?

I got a BH-201, usually it works fine, but every once in a while it won't connect until after i cycle bluetooth on the N900, and while the headset is connected the N900 has issues with finding nearby devices (like for sending a calling card). Back in pr1.2 often it would not shutoff the speaker (there was a bug in pr1.2 that would keep sending "silent" sound to BT headsets), that has been fixed on pr1.3 (but now every time a sound start after a little bit of silence the headset interrupts it a few milisecs after it starts to sound it's own beep for some reason, and then it will resume the sound from the N900 if it isn't over already, quite annoying)

I sometimes get a short audio drop with my BT car radio. I am using mediabox.
After the drop the sound is running a little bit faster to get in sync again. Then
it runs normal until the next drop. The drops appear every few minutes. I am
using the power kernel clocked up to 850Mhz.
Any solution?
