Hi there,
IivilSteel Theme 2.0.2.2 is now on extras-testing.
What's changed:
- new IivilSteeled buttons
- some very minor color & transparency tweaks
Please test and then cast your vote here:
http://maemo.org/packages/package_instance/view/fremantle_extras-testing_free_armel/iivilsteel/2.0.2.2/
------------------------------------------------------
New 2.0 version is completely re-designed.
Latest version with changelogs & bugtracker is also always available at:
https://garage.maemo.org/projects/iivilsteel/
I first though I'd make this steelish theme for my own personal use, but since it turned out to be decent-looking on my phone I desided to share it with the community.
I'm sure there are some bugs here and there since this is the first theme I've ever made. Please report found bugs in this thread and I shall fix 'em as soon as I can.
Cheers.
Disclaimer: I take no resposibility if you wreck your device or ruin your life installing this theme. I've only tested it in my own N900 and it runs fine on it.

You need a garage account then, you need to request to be a maintainer on garage, then you need to build theme as a source package. Then upload on Extras assistant

Still waiting for garage-project approval. In the meantime I fixed some minor things here and there and updated package can be downloaded from here:

Still need to work on some new buttons, don't personally like how they are now.
Great looking theme! Next you have to do "iivilsteel.AVI" boot video, with metal music soundclip.
kiitos :)

I was already thinking of implementing a boot video with short clip of audio where smith is battering steel, but had no time to do it yet :-P

Inspired by kake, I made a boot video matching my theme. You can download it here:
http://www.firenote.com/D-Iivil/iivilsteel.avi
Though I don't know how to include it in .deb -package correctly (don't want to overwrite the original, just edit the proper file to point to my video). If someone knows, please share the knowledge with me also :)

Thanks mate! Man that was quick:)
I already downloadet it and now it plays in my N900 everytime i boot the device! Cool video and not too long at all :)
Here's how you can change your boot video. (you need rootsh to do this)
Instructions:
1- Copy the video to /usr/share/hildon-welcome/media
2- Go to /etc/hildon-welcome.d/ and edit the default.conf file or create a similar one (the videos will play by the alphabetic order of the .conf files)

Yes! How did I miss that myself :)
It's doable and I'll fix that in next version soon. Thanks for spotting that.

New version (1.3.3) is now available from:
https://garage.maemo.org/projects/iivilsteel/
Release notes:
- Fixed selected text coloring

- Fixed uninstaller
UNINSTALL PREVIOUS VERSIONS BEFORE INSTALLING:

Okay.. I managed to upload the package to extras-dev, but it won't install correctly. For some reason most files are missing after the installation. So don't install the theme from extras-dev yet. Allthough it won't do any harm to try installing it, it just wont appear on themes-list :)
I'll try to fix it soon.

Finally I got sorted out problems with submitting theme into Extras-devel.
IivilSteel can be now downloaded & installed from extras-devel repository (insert here the usual warning about installing stuff from devel).

I've noticed the clock-bug also and it seems to be related into top bar being slightly transparent. If I remove the transparency it's allright but doesn't look so nice anymore.
What other bugs you found? Screenshots would be appreciated :)
I'm going to work with buttons today and I could fix other things at the same time.
Thanks for testing!

Read the opening post. It's all there, but here's the deal in a nutshell:
- theme is optified
- included boot video isn't optified (yet), it takes 1,4megs of rootfs. Instructions of removal the video are in the opening post
- theme can be installed via application manager, but you need to enable extras-devel repository
I try to manage uploading a new version today which includes some bug fixes, new buttons and optified boot video.
d-iivil
01-29-2010, 08:48 AM
New version (1.3.7.2) is now on extras-devel and will soon be available on extras-testing also (hopefully).
- removed the boot video from the package since it was eating rootfs. User who want to have modified boot video can download the video from HERE (http://www.firenote.com/D-Iivil/iivilsteel.avi).
- added new buttons and back & close -icons

Actually I managed to get it optified but then I couldn't get the correct .config -file to be included in the package correctly. Maybe I'll include the bootvideo again in next release if I get that problem sorted out.

That is also related into transparency in the upper panel.
Maybe I need to remove the transparency and try to make it look cool without it. That's a bug how Maemo UI is handling the upper bar (it just places a new image on top of the other without clearing the "old" one first and because of that you have two semi-transparent-images overlaying eachother and that causes that lighter color-issue :/

My next project will be turning IivilSteel into light version which is more readable in bright daylight, but I guess I'll wait for the summer to come to get some motivation to do it :)

All the improvements work really well. Email read/unread too, though the difference between the two colors is perhaps a tad too subtle. If unread could be bold text on top of the color that would be awesome.

I'm afraid that it cannot be bolded just changin theme settigs. It would require modifying the e-mail app itself :/

Just installed this theme for the first time, and all I can say is WOW! Quality piece of work! Great look, and I really like how it makes the interface seem two or three times faster than with the default themes. Everything feels lightning quick, like I just upgraded my n900 or something. Thanks for this!

SMS or email notifications. The little rectangle that flies across the top of the screen (task manager one) is fine. It has black text, and is very readable.
The other notification (on the desktop), which is larger has white text and is tough to read. Can you make the field darker in that one?

I'm still not sure what you mean. I guess I'll have to wait for a sms to arrive so that I can see if it's what I'm thinking of :-D
The notifications that are inside a long bar that fills the entire screen from left to right are fine, the text is black (or it's supposed to be).
Edit: just to make sure; are these okay on your device (the yellow ones):

Good. They should be the same color since there's only one color for notification font in theme config.
Sometimes hildon-desktop-engine (or whatever) caches strangely theme settings and uses older settings from previous selected theme.

I've noticed that this is the best way to test themes:
- first choose some other theme you aren't going to test
- delete possible previous versions of theme to be installed
- install the theme to be tested
- choose the theme
- shutdown
- start up
