Camera settings?

Hi

When I take pictures in doors the flash comes on and the pictures are dreadful. Also other pictures are a faff to get exposure etc right.

Anyway - I have turned off flash in doors and pictures are a little better but not brill.

Any advice on best settings for the camera?
