Hello,

This is a dark blue theme, which was based on the default Nokia NSeries theme.
Check my signature for more.

General caution for .deb files applies to this one also,
please install with your own responsibility.

If you notice any bugs please report them on this post.

What I did

Added backgrounds
Changed Media player/Clock/App Manager backgrounds
Blue progress bars
Blue media player icons
New UI elements(buttons etc)
Darker icons
Fixed bugs
Updated for new firmware
Packaged .deb

//== Theme Installation ==\\

1) To install you need to transfer the downloaded .deb file (http://www.mediafire.com/?tzmnjzumjdx) to your N900(for example Documents folder)
2) Open xterm and type(you need rootsh for this):
sudo gainroot
dpkg -i MyDocs/.documents/darksky.deb
3) Close xterm, go to Desktop -> Desktop Menu -> Themes to change theme.

If the theme doesn't look as it should it is suggested to reboot your phone after the installation.

You've done it again! I like this man! Thanks!

Can you also create a boot video that's fit for this theme? That'll be a blast!

Check the Maemo 1& 2 boot videos on my signature.

Nice theme Lacedaemon! Thank you :)

I also installed your maemo.avi boot video. Looks great!

I now have three boot videos in usr/share/hildon-welcome/media . I would like to know, that is it ok that i keep many boot videos in there? Does that directory use rootfs space?

It's pretty easy to change those boot videos, 'cause they are already there. So i only have to use leafpad to edit defalt.conf file.

@ redon, are you logged in as root?
# sudo gainroot

uhm, yeah, like i thought, no backgrounds for the calender.

@ lace do we know how to apply wallpapers here? do we know why we can't? and i love the blue, but i prefer my icons depth-less (without shading) amazing backgrounds though XD

The Good:
* Love the new buttons for close, back, menu, 3d glassy look
* Love the glassy buttons
* Shiny, finished overall feel.
* You kept the yellow, easy to read notifications

The medium:
* Background images are too dark, I ended up struggling. What brightness do you use on N900? I manually set the images back to the N900 splash.

The Bad:
* Icons and media player widget not transparent/translucent. It looks like a bunch of squares. The hottrack/depressed is cool though.

However, it's one of the best themes I've seen so far. It's third in my list of themes, first 3rd party (after the Nokia two defaults). Keep at it and don't ruin it like so many other cool themes that have this one unusable features (black on dark blue notifications? Geez.).

Finally installed it!

Absolutely love it, is there anyway to add transparency effects to it? would really compliment the theme in my opinion.

I concur with ndi, the theme UI elements are exactly what I've waiting to see someone implement and they are close to perfection IMHO. Love the battery icons! However as ndi noted, I miss the transparency of the desktop app launch icons.

Also, I'd like to propose a novel idea you're welcome to ignore, but may be handy for others too... How about a theme without background images? I already have over 20 images I like to use as backgrounds and it's a hassle to go into each desktop screen to reset them after changing my current theme.

Thanks for creating and sharing your theme with us! http://talk.maemo.org/images/icons/icon14.gif

This is the ONLY theme that makes me want to download and give it a try and i love it. But why is my battery level color not change to DARK GREEN as seen in the picture you shown?? Man i want that battery dark green....

Edit: Ok i just changed back to original theme. I won't be using this until you fixed several things:

1. Make the icons transparent like original
2. Battery level is NOT dark green as shown in picture.

I didn't change the media player widget images. They are still transparent.

In next update I will replace the desktop icons with transparent ones and keep the default splash backgrounds.

* Added transparent icons(like Nokia NSeries theme)

In order to gain root access you need to install rootsh from the App Manager.
Then follow the commands on the first post :)

hi! I already have darksky theme installed. But i'd like to install this new version of it. Do i have to delete the old one first?

Lacedaemon

I don't think you have to uninstall the old one. Just re-download the updated .deb and follow the instructions.
It will overwrite the older version.

Whine, whine whine. Why the heck do you have to bring this up from time to time. Geez, perhaps get your eyes checked or something if it's that hard to read.

There is ONE post in the Reflect-derived theme (flat) and ONE here. Both on-topic. However, feel free to rant, I'm not that sensitive.

ndi
01-25-2010, 07:40 PM
I didn't change the media player widget images. They are still transparent.

No, they aren't. My guess is N-series makes it transparent and I think not changing them makes them fall back to Hildon alpha or what's-its-name.

Tried upgrading and rebooting, tried switching to N-series and back. Works as expected, as in, all changes work but Media Player widget still opaque.

Brb, switching images to splash. :)

@Lacedaemon: Thank you, the new version has the default desktop app icon transparency and my custom desktop background images did not get reset (edit: probably because I did not switch themes, just upgraded Dark Sky).

Looks fantastic!!! http://talk.maemo.org/images/icons/icon14.gif

hey Lacedaemon!

I've installed darkskys latest version and redalert theme. After this i noticed problems. The original n-series theme has now red icons, in apps (it should be blue). Second problem i noticed when i tryed to open my messages on dashboard, it didn't open. Clock. email, messages, phone, internet, contacts icons are doubled. I can see the doubled icons when i'd like to extract them to my dashboard.

Any solution, how to fix this? I have deleted both themes, from app manager. But the problem stays.

What is redalert theme?? Maybe that's where the problem is...get rid of redalert and reinstall darkskys.

kake
01-26-2010, 03:07 AM
redalert theme is one of Lacedaemons themes, just like darksky. And theme installation shouldn't affect other themes. Plus there is still the double icon issue, even if those red icons would be fixed. If there is no other fix... i'll have to flash my phone.

For the battery icon you need to follow this thread:

http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=41035

Thanks, Lacedaemon, this makes it look even better :)

One idea, though:
Is it possible to have the same vertical gradient on the desktop icon background as on the taskbar?
AFAICS right now the taskbar has a nice gradient (light at the bottom and top, darker in the middle), but the transparent icon background on the desktop is plain transparent.

Best regards,
Corwin

Lacedaemon
02-03-2010, 10:28 AM
Yeah, that's possible. Will update soon with preview.

EDIT:

If you want to apply the new icons you need to:

1) Transfer the two .png files shown below on your N900 Documents folder
2) Open xterm and type(you need rootsh installed):

sudo gainroot
mv MyDocs/.documents/ApplicationShortcutApplet.png /usr/share/themes/darksky/images/
mv MyDocs/.documents/ApplicationShortcutAppletPressed.png /usr/share/themes/darksky/images/

3) Relaunch theme(or reboot) to apply changes

PREVIEW:

Corwin
02-05-2010, 05:43 PM
Thanks a lot, applied them right away.
Do not want to be picky, but could they be exactly the same color and gradient as the status bar? everything else looks worse, imho.

Best regards,
Corwin

Lacedaemon
02-05-2010, 08:58 PM
I used the same gradient. It's just that they are transparent which makes them look like that.
I am not sure if you can apply non transparent icons, but I will send a new version to you via PM to test it out.

The battery isn't changed by the theme. It requires you to edit a different file, use the search function to find the right thread I'm fairly sure the thread creator also made one for that.

Hiya,

The instructions is on the first post ... since its a .deb file, you will need to access the terminal to key in manually on the instructions...

the instructions might look simple but ... do it at your own risk !! (i suppose this needs to be protrayed .... -_-)

Thanks, Lacedeamon. I will be happy to test. Transparent is great, it would just be nice to have the same colors as the taskbar has. Can they be both (transparent and the same color)?

Yeah, I like the Alpha theme but not its gray button backgrounds. So I took the elegant black backgrounds from the Marina theme (and some grey elements in the top bar) and merged them with the Alpha theme. This screenshot gives an impression:

http://eris23.de/Screenshot-20100422-140640.png

If someone is interested I can upload the images folder that you can use to replace the original Alpha images. Sorry, no .deb available.

I only installed your theme yesterday, but I'm a huge fan already!
I noticed a minor bug though, which is due to the recent firmware update (PR 1.2): When the on-screen keyboard is activated, the backspace, spacebar and caps button are not visible.. However, these buttons do function if you tap the space in which they should be located.

ndi
05-30-2010, 09:44 AM
All themes prior to 1.2 are invald or incomplete save for alpha and beta. I sure hope darksky gets updated, it's the only beautiful and usable there out there (n-series) and darksky improves on it IMO.

Ok I install and uninstalled darksky without even checking as there were lot of messages saying cannot create something(sorry i didn*'t go thru the messages) also it says cannot stat /opt/icons/darksky.. So I tried again and tried to set it but when clicking "Themes" nothing happens. I uninstalled darksky but still the same thing. Could it be coz of it? thanks

'bout 30, and I have location enabled, it's tagged to every post I make. Also, I'm offtopic so I'll stop. Just wanted to say that a lot of us have location in our forum control panel - it makes helping people easier if you know language and time zone.

why isnt it just downloadable like all other themes? I don't like all the edditing with my n900. I really love the theme... but don't know anything about rootsh or something. Is it possible to just easly download it?

EDIT: I installed it... but i put it in my docs map and went to Filemanager. and went to mydocs. then clicked on the .deb file and then he went to downloadmanager. And installed it. is this the same as with xterm? cause there i got an error.

about the theme, I really really love it! but there is just ONE little thing, the box when you receive a message is just classic gold. If it was blue it would be way nicer and suitable with the theme!

thanks

I installed this theme and some other apps by just downloading .deb file and clicking on them in file manager: and there weren't any errors.

I have no idea why people didnt even mention this easy and fast way of installing packages. Because AFAIK HAM is doing the same stuff as xterm, just behind the scenes.

I dont know may be there are some hidden downsides of this, but still it seems to be fine.

And back to the topic:
This is the best theme i've ever seen and I am really looking forward for an update (virtual keyboard, lock screen). May be you would even change wallpapers set to maemo-website (http://n900wallpapers.com/wallpaper/maemo-website), cause it looks almost the same, but seem to have more reach colors and more clear image.

Yeah, this is among the best themes i have seen!!! All three of your themes are top notch with the right mods and no un-necessary stuff making it too heavy. Please update your themes and create new ones too if you have the time. Looking forward to some fresh stuff from you. Thanks! :)

I'm interested in your theme layout.

Could you upload please!!

Thanks!

Love love this theme!!!

Is it possible to change the slide lock screen from the NSeries to the same as shown in the wallpaper??

It looks odd disturbing with 2 different themes.

Hello,

This is a dark blue theme, which was based on the default Nokia NSeries theme.
Check my signature for more.

General caution for .deb files applies to this one also,
please install with your own responsibility.

If you notice any bugs please report them on this post.

What I did

Added backgrounds
Changed Media player/Clock/App Manager backgrounds
Blue progress bars
Blue media player icons
New UI elements(buttons etc)
Darker icons
Fixed bugs
Updated for new firmware
Packaged .deb

//== Theme Installation ==\\

Any updates for pr1.2. It is a lovely theme but there are some missing buttons like in the virtual keyboard for example. No backspace button!!!!

ndi
06-27-2010, 01:17 PM
Backspace is still there, it simply misses the button graphic. You can still click in the empty area where the button should be.

OTOH, not having all the graphs sometimes crashes my hildon-input-method, locking the CPU. Had to kill it repeatedly, finally disabled OSK.

You can find the files here:

http://eris23.de/images_alpha_marina.zip

Copy the content to /usr/share/themes/alpha/images.

To revert to the original alpha theme you can reinstall it as root with:

apt-get install hildon-theme-alpha

ndi

That site has a few problems. It serves an index, but nothing else (not even the void.png) let alone the zip.

That site has no other purpose. Only the zip is relevant to get the changes I showed in the screenshot.

The content of this zip should be used to replace the images under /usr/share/themes/alpha/images.

So I don't know if I understood you wrong... or you me. ;)

Unless I request /, it serves nothing, not even a 500. Seems to just hang, not even a connection hangup. Attempts to get through HTTP/1.0 and by simpler syntax net me a 400 Bad Request or a 200 OK with a page in German that translates to "Please do not access the server by the IP address" (my translation), meaning it's throwing a fit unless you add a HOST: to the header.

I can't get the file.

Glad it worked out :)

The basic UI is sliced in ~470 .png images and then you need to add backgrounds and few extra app to that count :) It's pretty big pile of images. Luckily it has been made easy for us by themecreator or Stskeep's theme layout package that will do the slicing from single png-image :)

I see.

So, how hard is it to build a theme from these images? I'm not on a Linux machine, nor do I have any clue about building a package. Can I just dump them in a folder and have it show up in theme selection, or is it more complex than that?

I'm itching to make a few changes, and, depending on how that goes, maybe inch towards a theme of my own. I'm a bit let down by the themes available, there are so many good ones, but each one has some special bit that the other lacks. I was thinking maybe merging a few good (through my eyes) ideas.

It's still way too early to assume I'll get anything working, but I'm really itching to try.

Also, how much harder is it to be 1.2 compatible? It feels like only a few items changed, but I'm likely wrong.

Basically you can do that and then edit these two files for your needs under the theme's directory:
index.theme
/gtk2.0/gtkrc

I think you need at least edit theme's name and path for images. Then it should pop up under theme selection menu :)

Packaging that to deb is another story.

Strange that the link is not working for you. My site is hosted by Strato one of the biggest German hosters. But I'm glad that D-Iivil could help you out.

D-Iivil, do you know of any way to force the hildon desktop to do a refresh of the current theme by command line? What I mean is if I make some changes to a theme by editing the images I always have to switch to another theme and then back to the one I am editing to actually see my changes. This takes so much time that its no fun playing around with different colors for the images...

Sorry, don't know. Would be helpfull for me also :)

And what's more annoying that just switching the theme does not refresh all elements. To refresh everything you need to do a reboot :(

ndi

Wouldn't restarting hildon do this? Several apps do this, like transition control and activity changer.

Noup. Some elements are cached somehow and the seem to be refreshed only at boot.

Report : Please can you fix the on screen keyboard issue, I can't see the shift key, backspace.
and all my keys look like this!

LOL, I can't take screen shot when I open the keyboard the onscreen keyboard goes away. But there is no buttons, Just letters and a black background.

But am still using it! :D Hope you fix it soon, I know it's just a matter of wrong paths maybe?

ndi

You can use cpumonitor or whatsitsname, it takes screenshots fromstatus area. Don't bother, though, problem is well known. I gave up OSK for that.

Yes, the other problem is I use camkey so I can't use the camera key to take screen shots cause whenever I touch I get to the task manager, Don't worry, I can live with it like that ;) Till the original poster do something, I hope so!

ndi
07-28-2010, 12:48 PM
Camkey is deprecated, upgrade to shortcutd. Also, it's not that one, there's one that you can click on and it takes a screenshot 3 seconds after clicking the button, IIRC. Don't quote me on that.

It is a pity that there is no complete virtual keyboard and a downloadable package in extras repository because the theme looks very nice.
Maybe someone could do this (I wish I would know how to do it)!?

ndi

Doing is is relatively easy. Packaging is another matter, and patchng it is quite another since it's not our package.

Have you fixed the virtual keyboard already so that it is completely usable with PR1.2 ndi? If yes, could you please release the missing files so that it would be possible to install the deb from the first post and then copy your files and have at least a fully working theme?

You're missing virtual keyboard characters because the theme was created prior to the PR1.3 release of Maemo 5 and the theme's creator didn't update the theme.

One way to fix the issue would be to use Theme Customizer and use a more up to date theme as a base theme, then use the Dark Sky icons and backgrounds instead.

mr_ian84
10-20-2011, 04:33 AM
i would appreciate more on this ... i have theme customizer installed but i do not see any option to change icons

stickymick
10-20-2011, 04:43 AM
Start Theme Customizer as normal (from the settings menu), scroll down and just below the colour presets you'll see "Icon Theme". Hit the bar below that and a list of icons from all the themes and icon packs that you have got installed on the phone.

e.g. I'm using the "Array" theme with the "Humanity" theme icons.

mr_ian84
10-20-2011, 04:55 PM
seems that this does not work ... the icons do change like battery and so on but the virtual keyboard buttons remain the same
