Turn Control Not Working

I was getting fed up with having to teach my wife how to activate the phone app on my N900 so decided to activate the launch by turning option. However, it just refused to work despite my trying it over 10 times. I decided to try the picture app but the rotation did not work there either. I was worried that the accelorometer was not working. But I tried the labirynth game and I could guide the ball around quite normally so it is clearly not a hardware problem.

Does anyone have any idea how I can fix this?

try restarting the phone this helped me

I have the same problem

Turning launches the phone app. but turning it back leaves it in portrait mode with messed up desktop.
