Hey guys .. I have a general question. For about a day or so now, my N900 has been lagging a lot (jerky scrolling, jerky switching between apps, browser less responsive) .. I've tried restarting the N900 but that isn't helping much ..
Is there any way I can find out specifically which program have a installed recently that is slowing down my N900 .. ? I've tried uninstalling some of the apps which I have installed recently, but this isn't helping much too ..
Thanks in advance guys .. :)

You could try running an x-terminal, then running top in it (just type
top
then press enter.)
The program using the most CPU should be at the top of the list of processes you'll see. It updates at around 5 second intervals, I think
Edit: picture of what it should look like here: http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?p=505549#post505549

google search which will find other info that might be of interest: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=pid+top+cpu+site:talk.maemo.org

I had a similar experience and for me the problem was Catorize, i uninstalled it and now everything is smooth again.
From experience with Linux boxes it could also have something to do with the theme in use, maybe try another one.
htop is easier to use than plain top, if you can find it.
Also Conky could be useful.

top is really good if you don't want to install additional software.

This happens to me every now and then and I've NEVER found a culprit using htop or whatever. I guess it's a bug in some event processing of the OS. Or some I/O running amok. Happens every few days.
I usually shutdown and reboot.

Sometimes the slowdown is caused by I/O and not by program using CPU, so be sure to also look at the summary line at the top of top and not simply the list of running processes. If you see "98.5% io" then you know that's likely the cause of your slowdown... which could perhaps be indexing of music/pictures if you recently copied new files to the device or something like that.

htop also seems to use much more CPU than top, so don't leave it running. Also, be aware that htop's CPU usage may distort the measurements.
For the record, htop is currently consuming 8-10% of CPU on my N900...

lately my power has been draining quite fast.
I see skyhost is constantly hogging about 5 - 7% of my CPU.
I am always loged into skype but as inviable.
This is the first time I am running top (so I have no past history to compare) and was wondering is this snapshot below is typical usage for someone loged in to skype.
I see some outer top images have cpu around 1.5% compared to my 10% is anyone see something out of the ordinarily here?

it shows you your cpu and memory usage with a little icon in the status area.
