View Full Version : Dial-up Networking on the N900

OK folks i just got my N900 yesterday and im loving it so far. i got a question...seeing that my linux machine can access the internet through my dial up (via wvdial or pppd). can the same be done with my N900? im thinkn of this as a way to bypass having to use WLAN or even GPRS from my provider. what are your thoughts on this?

OP is right. I can do it with my N810 (thanks to Yodude and others), but can't figure out how to do it with my N900. Would appreciate some help.

Isn't dial-up networking connecting to the internet? Why doesn't the ordinary way suffice?

in my case i have to connect to a wireless wifi first then connect to a second dial-up connection to get internet.

The N900 has 3 ways to connect to the internet:


wlan
bluetooth dun
usb networking


All of these are covered extensively in these forums, wiki, and other websites. If you have a specific problem not covered then please post details.

OK, let's get specific then. I was able to pair a N810 to an Motorola iDen phone via bluetooth and use the instructions provided by YoDude ("s=2") to access internet. When I tried it on my N900, it said there was no phone (something like that), and I couldn't go further. If necessary, I'll duplicate the process tonight and report back.

well my scenario is that the same way one would have connected to the internet via dial up (back in the days before wifi etc) is the same way i would like to use the n900 to connect to the internet without having to use wifi or a data plan from a provider. on ubuntu i used wvdial while on windows i used dial up networking.
