hey guys i ran into a problem with my n900. As describe above I can't seem to get my N900 infrared to work with QTirreco remote control app. I can't seem see an infrared option in the sending or share area either. How can I test if my infrared is not dead?
please help this little lost bird out. I tried download more remotes but nothing is going.

Maxx

I've tried that app and it worked great(I've since uninstalled it, already have a Logitech Harmony control). To check if it works, take a camera/a phone with a camera, point the camera to the IR sender(it must obviously be on), then press to send a remote command in the application. You should see a bright white light. It could be something wrong with the application though, so it appears non-working.

Infrared is only Consumerl IR... it means it's not IrDA it means it isn't possible to send through it.
It will only allow to control devices.

so which meant i can't test it? any command which i can run to activate it? or doing a test run? it would be nice if someone can write an addon to the gallery and allowing infrared sending

The IR in the N900 is not meant to send/receive files, if I recall correctly. It's only made for emitting IR-beams, like a remote control.

If you have a DSLR with IR remote support there is a Shutter widget in the repos that allows you to control it.

is the widget called Shutter?

Yes, as Ruskie said. It's a small widget using LIRC to emit a shutter command to Nikon DSLR cameras.
I'm also working to extend it for other cameras.

I installed the Shutter app and it says...."IRsend took 0 second NikkonDSLR:shutter"
what does that mean?

Why you think so? How you have verified this?
Do you have Nikon Dxx camera?

no but my remote application isn't working since after reflashed it. it used to work before the reflashed! now it stopped! completely and there is no way to testing it out.

Could be that some dependencies are broken. Did you search here? I found this thread:

Maybe you should read it.

I once read here that you need to turn Bluetooth on (for some reason) for IR to work. I dunno if it's true, but it doesn't hurt to try :P
Another way to determine if the IR works is by using a camera -- I think most cameras can see IR light, if not all. If you have another cameraphone, you can try pointing the camera to the IR, and on your N900, try to press any remote commands. If the IR lights up on the camera, the IR works.

yes i think the libQt dependency is busted. I'm going to retry installing if i can find it in the extra

hmm it doesn't seem like the Qtirreco had any dependencies to it. And there is used to be a libQt in my uninstall section before i reflash and now it's gone.
but i don't think that the case though, has qtirreco gotten any update lately?

I did notice one thing with QTirreco, some of the existing remote profiles do not work.
I tried every Sky+/SkyHD remote code bank and none of them actually worked with my SkyHD. If I hadn't already verified it works with my TV I would have thought something was wrong.
I wonder what is going on with libqt4 lately? I noticed anything that requires it refuses to install, but surely those libraries are in the repos? Wrong versions?

Yes, you should also be able to see it on a webcam - the sensors are +/- the same.

yeah i have to verified it first. i notice that libqt4 is missing from the dependency. Whereas it used to installed around 2mb size now it's only 865kb.
And yes before i reflash my device, qtirreco remote behave weirdly after updated. it refused to work but after redownload the remote database, it works. Then later on it stopped again. What i'm not sure about is the infrared driver on my device. I really hope that reflash didn't killed the hardware though. I'm going to try testing it.
so how do i test it? pointing the infrared port to the camera and where do i look? do i look at the screen? or the camera lens? sorry never done this before

Hi
I am now experiencing the same problem.
QtIrecco used to work for me ever since I installed PR1.2, but now for some reason I found it wasn't sending IR commands.
I tested it through my webcam and couldn't see any light coming from IR. I also installed Shutter, but when I try to use it it says " IRsend failed: 1 (Please reboot and try again). Rebooted, still no joy.
Does anyone have any tips?

Fixed problems with Shutter affected me for the trigger Canon Remote Qtirreco use downloading Canon RC1-RC5.
Shutter remains the same but at least rule out failure of the IR device, and I can shoot photos.

i think i got the same issua
i use the irreco thingy and it doesnt work
i could used it to switch channels on tv but not anymore
only thing i think can conflict with ir would be kernel power :-/

I also had issues with irreco, i only ever got it to work once a few years ago.
I even connected an IR sensor up to an oscilloscope to try and see the problem. It was sending a carrier signal when you hit a button but no IR pulses.
Recently (yesterday) i installed tv-b-gone on n900 and that works 100% fine for me. So atleast i know my IR port is ok.
The IR port on the n900 isnt as bright as a normal TV remote. so dont expect it to work from the other side of the room.
For me it only worked if i was within 2.5 meters from the device.
