having read this thread
http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=36675&highlight=camera+haze
i decided to contact a friend at nokia...
nokia were unaware of the issue.......
i decided to compile some factors so we can better pinpoint where the problem lies....as not all n900's are affected....
im asking those who are affected with the problem to:
1. state your n900's country of issue via the product code(found under the battery on the silver label)
2. please state the date your n900 was bought
3. where your n900 was made (made in finland, made in china, made for nokia etc.)
these to factors can help us determine if the issue is region specific, or early adopters or maybe even a factory issue.
thank you all for your help in this matter.
****please only state the above and not have the post getting off topic****

it's NOT the chrome ring!
responsible for this haze is the turquoise edge of the camera-cover ;)

no no no... it is from the upper side. turquoise edge of the camera-cover is from the right, but i have only minor problems with that... but in upper part of picture,... now that's a big problem! ;)

Please could you make guide how to reproduce this latter problem. I have only managed to reproduce it with my left hand. Keeping it too close to flash I managed to get silver/white haze to left/upper part of image.

In my unscientific study of two photographs I just took in uncontrolled circumstances, one with the cover on and one with it off, I believe I have the problem as well. In attached photo excerpt, the cover is on in the upper image and off in the lower image.

here is some proof of the haze on my N900.
it was very clear when I took a shot from my band banner.
(sorry for spamming that ;))
So I decided to make another one without the backcover.
For all people with the blue rim, please try to shoot some photo and then again without the back cover.
It's not visable in every photo, but we really got a hardware design flaw here.

Got mine mid January 2010, from Mobile Phone Direct (Nokia retailer) on Vodafone in UK... yes, that's right, still no firmware yet :(
Coloured the blue lens cover with a black marker... seems to have done the job, still not really a suitable fix!

Pictures are really hazy. Mine I got in Dec around 18th dec.
Blue/Turquoise color ring on the camera. Typically I see during redeye photos with eyes of red color but in this case you see blue colors on eyes very strange. Here is a picture
Mine mentions designed in finland:
made in korea.
code:0580952

hi all update...
my friend said they have been collecting data as its a sporadic issue...they cant really resolve if its earlier models or later ones etc. as it seems to affect some from a range of locations production dates etc.

hmmm.. if the prob is fixed then i will simply trade my n900 in for a newer version i mean.. its still under warenty.. i think the camera taking bad pics is a reason to swap out with that warenty as it is a manufactueres defect. any thoughts on this?
AFAIK, all the Maemo devices were made in Korea.

What happened? Only thing what I know that currently: Do not ever never use flash and learn to modify setttings by hand because automatic guessing sucks more or less.
