has anybody seen or is working on something similar to what Spicy Chicken had for the 1's Gen jailbroken iphone? The Customize app was pretty awesome. It let you change alot of icons, sounds and theme elements really easy. i'm not even sure if it's possible for the n900 but i'd be really cool. here's a couple of screens of it, just in case you havent seen it before.

There is nothing like that that I knew of. But I think that could be done with scripts an a Gui... But I'm not a programmer or so.... maybe if someone more knowledgeable about these things could take a look at the collected Mods in the mods-thread and make those as scrips and so on....

It's definitely possible, since maemo is, well, you know, open.
The thing is, maemo is customisable in so many ways, that app would have to be huge.
I'd say better see the mods thread (http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=39565) and apply what you like. The people there will help you do-it-yourself

I agree, but the thing that made Customize so good was the fact that aside from jailbreaking the iphone(which more difficult then than today) was that it made it really simple to do. I'm sure there are alot of regular users who would like to add some personal flavor to their n900's without screwing with the files and potentially bricking their phone. just a basic 10 or 15 elements to change. Save the heavy modding for the people who are proficient at it.

The mod thread is great, but honestly, not for newbies, nor lazy guys like me.
Every time I reflash I need to re-mod everything again, it's kinda boring and not necessary. If an app could do that, and save my changes somewhere on the non-flashable disk space, it would be very useful.
@ optimistprime - first, I always thought it was optimus prime... :p
Second, AFAIK, almost everything in the screenshot you've attached is doable, and appears in the mod thread referenced above, except maybe "badge graphic" which I actually have no clue what does it mean...
As MrGrim said, you can do much more - like changing camera sound, changing menu icons etc'.
So yes, I also believe this kind of app could be great (and wish I had the time to do it...) !

the badge graphic was the little notifier above the email or sms icon showing how many messages you had. see the attached pic. just hoping somebody takes an interest. I had NO programming knowledge at all, but just wanted to see if something similar was out there.

Oh, so in THAT case, AFAIK, currently the N900 has nothing similar to show any SMS (or unanswered call for that matter) in the top status bar... Another thing I thought I might try (sometime in the far future) as a first app...

Definitely a good idea, which will make sure that more "less-advanced" users can join the game ;)
And @ MrGrim, As I have, myself, been through the N900 MODs and tried out lots of them, I agree that this app will be huge, but then we can exclude either the less shiny mods, or exclude the too easy mods.
In that way the app won't be that huge again, and if you really want all the mods, you gotta get down and dirty ;)
