View Full Version : Transferring contacts from N900 to SIM
If this is in another thread, my apologies, I've spent hours browsing these forums and didn't come across this topic.
I just bought my N900. I've been on Verizon for a decade and they don't use SIM cards. Now on the N900 I manually entered contacts and then later activated service with T-Mobile and got a SIM card. I can't figure out how to get the contacts onto the SIM card. The contacts seem to be in the N900's internal memory. How do I get them on the SIM card? Having them on the SIM card helps protect from losing all my phone numbers if something happened to the phone, correct?
When I access the contacts on the SIM card it just has the default contacts such as to check usage, check voicemail, etc.
Thanks.

It is not possible at this point in time. You have to manually do it, if thats possible.

It's not a lot of use really - the SIM card is limited in to a single number per contact, and contact names are a limited length. There's also a limited total number of contacts you can have on there.
Thanks both of you. It's my first Nokia in many years, and the first time I use PC Suite. I entered all the information on my lap top through PC Suite. Is there a way to export those contact files from PC Suite or the N900 to a file on the lap top? Even if not formatted perfectly, just something (even like a text or Word document) to refer to if the phone is ever unavailable to access phone numbers from. Thanks.

I use the nokia suite to sync my n900 with outlook 2007. This works perfect and once you have your contacts in outlook (or presumaly any other mail/contact sw) you can sync it with other phones and so on.

You can export all contacts on the N900 - in the Contacts app, tap on the title bar and select export. It exports them to a set of vcard files, which you should be able to import into most other contact/address apps. I think they're a text format, but I've not checked on this.

If this feature is so useless, how come this is the only phone Nokia ever sold without this feature?

i've found that with PC suite, you can export your contacts to a csv file, which can also be imported back to your device.
but i don't use PC suite anymore. i use the device's Backup program to backup/restore my contacts.
and if you want to transfer your contacts to another phone, i suggest you use bluetooth if the other phone has it.

You can export all your contacts from PCSuite to a CSV file that you can open in Excel. Click on File and export in the contact view. You can also sync your contacts with any mail program of your choice eg outlook

Yes you can export contacts with PC Suite but I should warn you if your contacts on the N900 are neat and tidy and with several fields I don't think it would do a very good job. Might do if you export one by one but otherwise I think some fields get lost.
