btaudit !how do i start application? help any1

Hi, can anyone explain why i can download and seemingly install this application succesfully but have no way of starting up the application"!
I am stumped , if you can help or tell me what i need to do i'd appreciate it!

Isn't it a console app? Do you have xterm installed, and do you know how to become root?

yes ive got xterm, i dont know how to become root!
I bought a second hand 770 i'm out my depth but ive been here before,and self taught, I got to where it asked for a password?

Are there a list of things i should have installed as standard before i start trying to use applications? Are there any decent guides for a newb like me to get my head around this O/S .
If there is let me know please as i am sesperate to learn this stuff! A pointer in the right direction would be good! Where should i start? anyone!

Install "becomeroot" in the Application Manager. Once you've done that, you can become root by typing "sudo gainroot" in xterm - you'll then be root and should be able to start btaudit, probably by typing btaudit at the command line (not sure of the exact name, never used it myself).

thanks for the replys guys, appreciate the advice, i bought a Debian gnu/bible book to go over and try and get myself thinking in linux or more specific the Debian o/s and hopefully i'll get as much out the 770 as you guys seem to get!
