:) The I-Pod Bud Headsets seems to work fine with Nokia 770. Perhaps someone should try these with Nokia N800 as well. This would mean that anyone who already has an I-Pod will not have the need to buy another Headset. ;)

They work with the N800. Why anyone would want to use them is beyond me though - the most uncomfortable headphones I've ever used, with the added bonus of turning you into a mugger magnet! :)

I use the Koss headphones and the sound is awesome out of them.

I don't have a N800, yet. OTOH, I have a pair of not cheap headphones that I use with 770. Considering the presence of microphone connector, would those headphones work with N800?
I saw posts about mono sound or pushing the jack to get stereo, but nothing conclusive; so, a little insight is appreciated
I just purchased the Bose Quiet Comfort 3 headphones and there is an awful distortion. The noise comes on with event sounds, Internet radio and MP3 playback. The headphones work with every other device I own and the N800 seems to work with all of my other headsets. Just wanted to see if anyone else has tried the N800with noise canceling headsets or earbuds.
Never mind my previous post. the answer was already posted. I just tried using the airline adapter and everything works fine. http://www.internettablettalk.com/forums/archive/index.php/t-4101.html

Here is an associated question. I have a n800 and would like to find 3rd party headphones that will work in a similar fashion to the Nokia provided ones; having both stereo audio our and microphone in one unit. I find the Nokia ones are very difficult to carry around, as they alway get tangled and the ear protector on mine are always falling apart.

I was aware that the N800 had a built in, integrated mic/headphone functionality. I thought the jack was only for headphones.

The N800 has built in stereo speakers, as well as a built in microphone. However, for effective use of VOIP software, you really want a headset. The Nokia supplied headphones have stereo earbuds, as well as a built in microphone on the cord. The 1/8th inch audio jack will accept and work fine with any standard three conductor stereo headphones, but has contacts for a forth conductor to provide for a microphone as well.
Here is a picture of a standard heaphone connector (on the left) and the one on Nokia's headphone w mic combo (on the right).

You know what? I did not even bother to look at the headset. I just put it in my draw as the Nokia phones are usually crap. Cool. I have a pair of Shure high-end phones when I decide not to take my iPod with me so I can look at vids or have music. Thanks for the heads up.

It is a pretty neat design. It is one of those things that makes you go "why didn't I think of that?"
My Netbook Pro has a port that can act as either a stereo audio out port or a monaural out plus microphone in port. It auto senses what you have plugged in, too!
