N900 Software Update - slowed mine right down!!!

Hello everyone

I got the N900 the other day, and immediately ran the Nokia Software update. From being a zippy, fast and fun to use device it has now turned awfully slow and sluggish - especially with media

And another item was the battery, without being hardly used (1 5 min phone call) almost completely drained in 4 hours.

Just wondered what others thought about the latest software update, and whether it seemed to be causing problems?

A lot of people have reported the battery not being very good for the first few power cycles. Whether this is relevant to you or not is another matter (you said you only just got the N900?).

I found that after an update that the indexer seemed to need to refresh. I found that opening media player and letting it sit for a few minutes seemed to kick off the process and sort things out eventually. A reboot is also often helpful in clearing out some of the cache.

So essentially just a refresh of the phone and let the media files update? Also, I have entered an 8GB memory card at the same time, from a previous phone with some media files on it

I have a feeling this may be linked so will remove the card and see what the implications have on the phone, plus doing a full charge / discharge and letting the media library update

This is incredibly frustrating - now it says that it only has 2GB of available space out of a possible 2.35GB?!?! Wtf is that all about

I really want to get this fixed ASAP, and am a little lost as to a) cure the speed and space errors and b) install apps and files via a PC rather than over the net all the time

Do you think that 2GB free is too little? or 2.35GB total is too little? Have a read of:

You absolutely right. After any updated some tracker process starts working and that consumes a lot of resources depending from what is in your N900. Just wait a couple of hours and the problem disappears.

Don't forget to switch OFF-ON after it finishes - it would save you some resources too.
