Most phones display the little tape symbol in the top of the phone when there are unread voicemails. Currently, the only way to see this is to look at the voicemail icon on the phone (from the voicemail number) and see if its a picture or not. Here is an example on a series 60 device:

I was wondering if there was a way to add a simple indicator in the notification area (where it shows 3g/wifi connected):

I know that bumping topics is frowned upon, but I was wondering if anyone cold direct me to the documentation or what I should look into to get voicemail status if I were to program this myself.
