I have similar scratches. i think they are the result of the use of the stylus.

My screen is covered in little scratches but I think mine are casued by tiny specs of dirt on my fingernails as I don't often use the stylus.

I also considered polishing out the scratches when I spotted a scratch removing polish for plastics at the local aquarium shop. Don't think it is worth it though as I can only see the scratches if I look for them and it will only scratch again.

same for me. Screen protector (after the event) covered up one of two rainbow lines but not the other.

are you sure they are scratches as i thought i had a big long scratch and it was there for days then i used my n900 after eating some crisps and my screen got greasy so gave my screen a clean with a bit o spit an polish and the "scratch" disappeared! it was obviously just a streak of dirt or summat.
i was so chuffed!

to be fair the screen is well durable as i use my nail to use touchscreen, keep my phone in my pocket with keys and money and have no scratches at all!

you people have to use screen protectors. Although the stylus or your fingernail should not be hard enough to scratch the screen, bits of debris can be lodged under the tips and cause scratches.

I have invisible shield screen protector installed. At first I thought I could use it without one but after getting nice and straight scratch when using stylus (probably sand) I decided to install one :D

It has its downsides too. Makes it a bit more difficult to use in direct sunlight. Nearly always there's some debris left between the protector and screen..... but you wont get any scratches ;)

repeat story of mine from another thread:

this reminds me of a somewhat funny story, when I had my N80, I babied that thng. I made sure it had a screen protector 100% of the time. I never went without one. well, days turned to months turned to years, and 4 years later the case had it's small dings here and there, but the screen was flawless.

one day I was rototilling the backyard (it's similar to a lawnmower for those of you who dont know) and I felt the handle tap my leg. when I finished rototilling, I puilled out my phone and I had a huge star crack. the LCD leaked everywhere inside. made for a nice 'fireworks' screen. so many colors. The plastic screen on top was still flawless, but the glass screen behind it was gone. like having a car with a mint condition interior, but was totaled in a car accident.

anyways, it was then that I realized that all those years of caring for and worrying about the front the whole time pretty much went to waste. I started to wonder why I even cared so mch about the front, I mean it's not like there wasn't spare front panels for it online. like those old people who cover their chairs in plastic. what are they saving them for?

anyways my next phone was the N900, and I realize now that I don't need a protector. the screen was made for what it does, because if it wasn't, it would come with a screen protector itself. Also, in a few months (if not already available) there is going to be replacement front panels, so I could just buy a fresh one if mine gets so bad.

I'm not knocking peple who have screen protectors, I'm just sharing my epiphany when my previous phone met a similar fate.

I've an invisishield screen protector on mine too. Bit pricey @ £15 but they're a good piece of kit indeed, worth investing in. Made myself a little template of the screen that was slightly undersize. I used the template to mirror & profile the invisishield and then 'followed the instructions' to apply it.

On touch it feels a little rubbery and the stylus needs a greater prod but nothing major and you soon get used to it.

Sorted :)

I can't say I have ever put a screen protector on any of my phones, simply because you're always going to be the usual wear and tear and as someone has already said there is no point wrapping them up in cotton wool. I only ever have my phone in my pocket on it's own (poor lonely phone) but that's just habit now. After scratching my old N97 with the stylus though, I am seriously considering getting some screen protectors (not the invisible shield).

If they are ten a penny on eBay, then it won't matter to me if the protector has to be changed on a fortnightly basis. Although I have never been that bothered about it, it's nice to look back in a year or so and see a nice scratch free phone.

*Off to eBay to see what they got...*

Personally i wouldnt use a touch screen phone without a screen protector. I always use a protective case when its in my pocket too. Nokia CP-321 is thin, light with just enough protection without adding to the 'bulk' to the phone. its far too easy to scratch the screen with a nail or stylus if you dont take a few simple precautions!

You could try a plastic polish scratch remover, search google. We use them at work on aircraft windscreens and canopy's, so a phone screen should be a doddle. All I will say is polishing out scratches is a long process, it isn't achieved in minutes!! Me personally, I use a screen protector!!

C'mon peeps. Use screen protectors. At mininum, screen protectors = easier time reselling. I passed on buying many N810s because of a scratched up screen, and because I kept my N800 protected, I had an easier time selling it.

yep screen protector for me

had a few touch screen phones and its easy to scratch most of them with a tiny bit of dirt or dust on your nail/stylus

you can get them cheap on ebay and if applied good you cant even tell they are there as another user said they make the phone easy to sell , people like perfect screens when buying 2nd hand phones and helps the resell value stay high

would you buy a handset with a scratched screen?? i wouldnt , its much easier to swap a scratched screen protector instead of swapping bits of the screen and invalidating your warranty

everyone to their own though but i wouldnt be without one its just much easier and like i say they are invisible when fitted correctly no bubbles at all and even easier to wipe clean and best of all no worry about scratches and replacing parts

I tried but could not put one on without getting lint underneath it. air was dirty where I was living.

that is annoying , ive had a few dog hairs or pieces of dust try to creep underneath them when iam fitting them and i have to get a different one luckily most places sell them in packs of threes or fours

theres nothing worse then a bit of dut under the screen protector

good tip for this

wipe the screen with an anti static wipe before fitting the screen protector this should repel dirt/dust long enough to fit the protector :-)

Exactly my conclusion, though for a different reason. I was obsessive about keeping my n800 protected--giving up touch screen responsiveness (by using a screen protector) and ease of use (by using one of those fancy, but unwieldy, leather cases). In the end, my n800 is in perfect condition after almost three years of use--but it is now languishing, long-forgotten, boxed up somewhere in my basement.

I love my n900, but I've come to the realization that someday even it will be replaced by something shinier and better. I don't begrudge anyone for using a screen protector, though--you simply have to do what suits you, what works for me won't necessarily work for you...

i got the zagg full body protector which i think is what you are refering to. its was around 15.

it covers the whole phone and ive had it on since november and i use the phone daily. had the phone in same pocket as my keys and not a single scratch. watch the video on their website. its impressive. makes all the plastics look shiney and the only (slight) downside is the screen is slightly more tacky to the touch.

i would recomend anyone who buys this kit reads the instuctions because if you take the time to fit this properly it will last the lifetime ofthe phone.

oh and the other nice thing about these is they are 'wet' fit protectors which makes them very easy to get on and align perfectly.

not sure how they are removed yet because i havent had the need but you wont have any issues with these buggers peeling off after a month or so :)

not sure if this has been suggested yet, but Brasso, which may just be a local brand but it's a light brass polish, can be used to remove fine scratches from plastic

Sorry, but the Zagg product is atrocious IMHO due to stickiness of the protector. Also sponge applicator leaves tiny black spots between screen and back of protector. I cannot recommend this product. Also, fingerprints mark the screen protector easily.

Please watch out with warranty returns you must return the product back to Zagg as they pre charge you the full cost of the product on your credit card plus postage. They also do not cover "application" errors.

This is not a credible company in my view. Very disappinting product. I give it 0.

BE VERY CAREFUL POLISHING PLASTIC SCREENS!!!

When I worked in the motorbike industry we had loads of guys who'd try to polish out scratches on their helmet visors and their attempts usually ended in total disaster.

Most plastic 'phone screens are like 'bike visors - they have a soft base layer with a hard 'anti-scratch' layer over the top. This layer is very, very thin. 'Plastic polishes', pads and cloths will tend to wear large patches of the anti-scratch layer off, exposing the soft plastic underneath which will then marr very, very quickly.

If you get a scratch you're better off leaving it. A suitable screen protector will cover up smaller scratches (Proporta (http://stores.shop.ebay.co.uk/proporta-shop__W0QQ_armrsZ1)one very good for this as it has a grained, anti-glare finish).

I use clear screens from uk-tek (http://stores.shop.ebay.co.uk/uktek__W0QQ_armrsZ1); very thin, hard and a very good fit. Once fitted carefully you have to look hard to notice that the screen is covered.

The uk-tek screens lack the feel of the the Proporta ones, but the improved clarity and drasticaly lower price does it for me. I guess you'd have to try both to make your own mind up.

Routine cleaning is best done by huffing on the screen and GENTLY polishing with a CLEAN and VERY SOFT cloth. Do not use window-cleaners like glassex/windowlene or any kind of abrasives...

I now use a CP 231 leather case to protect the phone but would again recommend a screen protector; all you need is a small piece of grit/sand to get into the case and you'll have a nasty scratch when you pull the 'phone out.

Never play without protection!

I tried the scratch remover. The screen on the N900 is plastic as opposed to some other phones which are made of glass. This has the advantage of not "exploding" if you drop it. It is however more proned to getting scratched. The polishing cream is more effective on glass fronts and not very useful on the N900 plastic screen. Any scratches are definately not caused from the stylus. My wife is a Tetris "Blocks" freak and plays the game for hours on end, naturally with the stylus. She has not caused a single scratch !! DO NOT put the phoe in your pocket without some kind of bag. I personally don't like screen protectors, they make the resisitive screen less responsive.

Well I tried to use a watch surface cleaner which is ment to get rid of scratches on the plastic watch lens. Just made it worse tbh, tried to polish it with a cotton ear bud and the cream. Don't bother.

What did the guy mean about getting a new phone under warrenty?
