Hi,

I just bought my new N800 and can connect to the internet quite easily using my SonyEriccson W850i Mobile Phone.

My N800 sees Wlan Connections quite easily, but when I try to connect to any of them (the ones i tried have no security settings whatsever) I only get the message Network connection error ! Has anyone a clue what I am doing wrong? When I look at the conniction, I can see that I have sent packegs to the access point, but haven't recieved any.

Any and every help would be highly apricciated!

:) The access to WLAN APs can be blocked from strangers and unwanted elements by various ways. The intrusions can be blocked by way of MAC address Fliltering, by installation of WEP Keys or Passphrase etc. In some cases, though the WLAN signal bars on the ITs will all be green, you will still not be able to bridge on to it and surf the web. This is because such APS maybe be configured with any of the above mentioned aspects of Security. ;)

Are you trying to access wireless access points that you know you have rights to? Start with one of those first.

When you look at the connections do you see the little lock symbol? Does it appear locked or unlocked. Generally I have found if it is unlocked, there is a chance it might be open but it could also be using MAC filtering. It could also be utilizing a RADIUS server where you will need a user name and password. As schmots said, try to see if you can connect to networks where you have access already.

Maybe you must configure your DHCP-settings somewhere.
(I'm not intentionally trying to be vague, but I do these kind of things by trial and error, and don't really know what this is about.)
When I was configuring my new Nokia 800, I also had a phase where it connected to my wireless LAN, my (wired) router was connected tot the internet, but the router didn't allow the WLAN (and the Nokia) access to the internet. It started to work after I changed settings in the router to make it DHCP-server.

Ah thansk folks, was probably my own error, I just plugged in an old WLan Router I had lying around, of which I tought it wasn't set up to MAC filtering. When I couldn't connect to it i tried to connect to a neighbors wlan, wich I have used from time to time too, but he evidently als has MAC filtering now, for I couldn't connect to it ether, so I assumed there was something wrong with my settings or something. Now I took a closer look at my WLAN router and set it up probably and now all works fine. Thanks a bunch for your help! :D
