whole reason I posted was to show the daleks off, other wise its just the stock theme. I used statusbarclock from the 2007 repository on test.maemo.org. I'm a little disappointed the cpu/mem load app didn't show.
I like penguinbait's too. made me feel lame.

thanks. I found the status bar clock here https://garage.maemo.org/projects/statusbar-clock
the developer says he might get a new version out soon also. the version I just installed has only black text and is difficult to see on my status bar.

I have the statusbarclock applet, but I have one problem, it displays the greenwich time, not my city time. I think it would be interesting that it takes the time from city time.

I installed it today. for me, it takes the time from what I have selected for my home city in the main clock app.

it doesn't have its own setting. It seems to use the same setting as the Clock home screen applet. When in the Clock application, where the world map is, click one of the clock faces to toggle analog/digital.

Arggg what is it with all these wacky themes lool..
Reminds me of all those noobish windowsblinds themes.
Is it possible like the way you would edit the system files on a phone to change the settings for the homepage. ie: flip the left menu to the bottom of the screen and make it smaller. Also change the size of the widgets, because for instance the Canola widget is massive and doesn't need to be that big, seeing as it's only two buttons.
There's ALOT of wasted area in all the widgets it would be an idea if possible to make widgets backgrounds transparent.

I have to agree, some wasted area, semi transparent would be good, however in the case of canola they're that big for a reason (at least I think so). If you have an n800, push the application button (the two overlaying windows icon on the side) with your thumb. Note their much bigger.

Yeah, it's pretty hard to look at, but I've been too lazy to change it. :)

With N800?
Whats wrong with auto update?
I have it set to Update weather data every 2 hours (or whatever, I have tried different settings)
Right now my home page has icons for Saturday, Sunday, Monday and Tuesday
and the Saturday icon is a partly sunny
It is currently almost 5pm on Sunday!
No updates to the weather data or displayed icons since Saturday afternoon
- just hit the manual refresh icon and all icons are now updated.
When I had OMWeather installed before version 0.16 for n800, I had it working and auto refreshing fine, it just had the n800 related gui quirks.
--- Update ---
I recently reinstalled the OS and all programs and now the refresh every 2 hours is working :)

The clock numbers are just png images as part of the current theme. To change the look, you just change the pngs. Check out ThemeMaker if you want to give this a try.

thx Adam. How did you resize the Canola applet?
Adam_n800
03-21-2007, 10:00 AM
You click on "home" in the top toolbar and then select "Edit Layout" from the drop down menu. Then you should see the green border around the widgets and then a little triangular window resizer which you just move around to resize then once you accept tthe new layout it should save.
Note: If the border turns red, this means that one widget is overlapping another and so you need to resize them in a way that they all fit. I would prefer the widgets to slide out from the side of the window instead of covering the whole page all the time, but I guess Nokia wanted to go for something different and unique from all the other PDA type devices.

This is LCARS Bridge 12pt
I really like it. Love the custom icons in the status bar
but can not use it full time due to some apps using a hard coded black text colour which is impossible to read against a black background. (Why do programmers use hard coded colours rather than system colours?!?!?) The main bad app is the RSS Feed reader :(

I liked the LCARS theme. it looked cool and was fun to use on the home page. It is unfortunate that some apps are unusable due to the black background as they have hard coded balck text :(
There is no wi-fi strength. The red/dark red/white bars at the top are the battery charging. A nice animation.
The application bar at the bottom is Simple Launcher. Also looks cool in the LCARS theme :)

Sorry, left the details out :) I am running latest OS2006 on my 770. Theme is sgc.white (by =DC=) and background is from deviantart.com. The launcher is Idea, with one icon per row, x-small labels and 32px icons. Statusbar applet is panelclock from maemo.org (I also have the CPU load / screenshot applet). I removed everything else from the home page.
However, I have no idea what side bar you're talking about..! Maybe the theme removed it..?

Very nice. As you seem to have cracked the IDEA! nut that has thus far eluded me, can you tell me where to find the program icons for IDEA!. I'm having a hell of a time trying to configure the app. I've watched the instruction video, but I still have a lot of questions. For example, how do you delete an app. icon. The video shows how to add another icon but it doesn't show how to delete an icon and its associated app.
I do not want Xterm icon on my desktop. Do I have to change the Xterm icon and then change the app. associated with it? How? The video shows an icon folder on the MMC, but, I don't know where to get that folder.
thanks for any guidance you might offer,

gee! and I thought I did such a good job explaining what applets and status bar apps I was using...
The icons on the desktop are made with the IDEA home plugin
see https://garage.maemo.org/projects/idea/
I believe the dev is rewriting it to make it much easier to configure. right now it is not so easy...

the developer is rewriting the configuration I believe. But for now, this is what I did:
First I used pencil and paper to write down what apps I wanted on a home page launcher
In the IDEA configuration I set it to the Total Icons to how many I wanted.
Also on the Icon Setting tab, I wrote the name of each app I wanted in the order I wanted them. Ignoring the icons shown and overwriting the existing labels
Then pressed Apply button
Then I went to the App Setting tab and pressed Refresh (this then showed my labels from the icon tab)
For each row, I double-tapped it and selected the application to match my label.
ALSO, this is where you check the "Use default icon" checkbox so that it uses the default icon for the app.
use labels, table settings and icon sizes to taste http://maxthon.cafedeux.com/smilies/smile.gif
Hopefully this helps.
There is no way currently to rearrange the icons or to delete one from the beginning or middle. If you want to make a change then you might have to go through all these steps again.
good luck.

Here's my current desktop. It's simple, but I thought I'd share...
The wallpaper is from Neal Stephenson's (official) website (http://www.nealstephenson.com/).
http://farm1.static.flickr.com/207/513390560_8c63dd61bc_m.jpg (http://www.flickr.com/photos/timsamoff/513390560/)
The theme is Nuvo (https://garage.maemo.org/frs/download.php/1275/NuvoTheme.deb).
GPE Summary (https://garage.maemo.org/projects/gpesummary/), on the left, displays my calendar events and todos.
FM Radio and the Search app are there on the bottom-right.
I'm using the latest version of Simple-Launcher (https://garage.maemo.org/projects/simple-launcher/) for the apps launcher (i.e., not IDEA (https://garage.maemo.org/projects/idea/)).
And, last, Other Maemo Weather (https://garage.maemo.org/projects/omweather/).

I change backgrounds alot, but this is my current one. I think it goes well with the Plankton theme (currently the ONLY theme due to this firmware's theming problems).

Edit:
I've put it on imageshack for download:
Blue Morning (http://img510.imageshack.us/img510/3161/bluemorningyl2.jpg)
Just copy the jpg to the tablet and set is as your background.
I got the original from Interfacelift (http://interfacelift.com) and just resized.

I think he means that most people who have installed the OS2007 version of Other Maemo Weather applet have the transparency bomb out and leave a white box, same with simple launcher.
but since there is an OS2008 version released a few days ago, yay for transparency, now for Simple launcher to be updated!

Hey in your picture what is that weather widget looking thing that is showing the radar?
It's the "web shortcut" applet. The link is changed to a local TV stations doppler >> http://images.ibsys.com/phi/images/weather/auto/doppler_640x480.jpg?618070578
... and I changed the image to the link to one I made by cropping a piece from a static radar image.
I have a couple of web sites like that I like to reference quickly and would love to be able to run multiple instances of the "web shortcut" applet for them but can't with either OS.
Wow, I really like the theme, icons and background. Are they by chance available for use?

Which version (http://www.mozilla.org/ports/os2/) would you like (http://pmw-warpzilla.sourceforge.net/)? :)
IBM's Mike Kaply is still involved with the Mozilla ports to OS/2, just not in an official capacity anymore. But IBM sponsored the Mozilla port to Warp at the beginning and even had their own fork (http://www.warpupdates.mynetcologne.de/english/inet_mozilla.html) for a while.

We probably shouldn't hijack this thread so let's post any further KDE questions here (http://www.internettablettalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=11590). Ok? To quickly answer your question, I have no idea if a one click is even possible because of the nature of the processes. However, the summary instructions (link posted in my op) tell you exactly where to start - #1 partition a MMC - then follow steps 2-5. ;)

I followed this mailing list post: http://lists.maemo.org/pipermail//maemo-developers/2007-February/008480.html , the second
setup described there to be more exact.
Since it is rather vague (and the Debian armel port status changed in the mean time from unofficial and
just starting off to semi-official and quite mature) I've written a howto about this topic in the maemo wiki.
It can be found here - https://maemo.org/community/wiki/debianarmel_on_it/.

One problem with this setup is that it's not all that useful in the long run, even if it does work okay. I may sound wrong but I think that everything that could and needed to be ported to maemo has already been ported anyway

Thanks for that wiki howto! I've been following the steps myself, and there are changes needed to update your wiki, especially when setting it up for OS2008. For instance, the method for putting ext2 on the memory card is slightly different, and the armel-root-fs needs a full "apt-get dist-upgrade"
Is there anywhere I can send these suggested updates? Also, what window manager is best for the N8x0? I see KDE has been successfully ported, would this method work to run KDE? Of the lightweight WMs you suggest, which is the most robust?

yes that is OS2008 as for the launcher it is simple launcher, I think that I got it from the Maemo garage... you can just do a search for it here or on Maemo.org
however like Khertan said, that isn't working transparency I just got lucky enough that the generic background color of the simple launcher happens to match my background. oh and it doesn't actually work right all the time either, as there is really 5 items on the launcher but the 5th one is hidden, as a quick generic fix

I use osso-statusbar-cpu to display the time in the tray, launch a few apps and take screenies, and I do prefer the smaller font, but it's still a nice applet, fiferboy.
Thanks to fiferboy, I now have lots of reclaimed space on my home page... Although now my status bar is overflowing, even with the advanced brightness control. XMMS in windowshade mode is great for listening to Internet radio, and it stays out of the way, since XMMS insists on always being on top, no matter what app is running. Other times, when I'm just idling at the home screen and I want to see what is playing, I make XMMS double-sized for easy reading.
http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2136/2263638510_0de58a33db_o.png
(http://www.flickr.com/photos/qole2/2263638510/)
Onyros, if you use osso-statusbar-cpu to display the time, then why do you also run the clock applet on your home screen?
Onyros
02-13-2008, 05:27 PM
Cuz it's purrrty :p
Naa, sometimes, I don't know why, the time display lags a bit in osso-statusbar-cpu and I compare it with the desktop applet, to make sure it's right (a click on the applet also works). Also, I don't just use it to display time, but to launch a few apps.
Even so, I don't really see the desktop much, I always have something open when I'm using the IT, so only when the desktop's clean is the clock applet visible.
BTW, you can minimize XMMS if you use xmmsctrl to restore it (and that's one of the reasons I use osso-statusbar-cpu).
Not wanting to OT much, I remember I could dim the lighting a bit more in OS2007 (or was it a placebo effect?), can you dim it a little more with the advanced backlight control applet?
I always use the lighting at the minimum (I'm kinda like a mogwai, hate bright lights), and it saves a lot of battery that way. A little more wouldn't hurt, and it would save even more battery.
The advanced backlight control has very fine-grained control, indeed. It can get so dark that I can't really read it... Just now, I made it as dark as possible, and then set the tablet down. It actually brightened up a bit when it went to the "powersave mode" that it does before going black.

It'd be neat to tap on the screen and not know, exactly, what screenshot'll come up. Or plug PlayThing into the charge and just use it as one of those electronic picture frames (with the added bonus of internet radio and weather.

Oh, when PlayThing's at home where this would be, I have it plugged in at all times.
I have use it extensively for radio listening (and alarming during weekdays).
And now I'm fidgetting with Lastfm.
Yup. PlayThing's indispensible now. I'm thinking the next purchase would be a backup battery and an extra charger that I'd keep at work. Since the wireless network is heavily monitored and passworded up the whazzu, I'd use PlayThing as a picture frame and just run stored podcasts or music behind it.
That's why I would like lotsa lotsa pretty background images and like this thread. Learned about the new statusbar clock and the half-n-half volume/dimmer applet. And seen some neato pictures, too.

There's already a port of XMMS for the N8x0. do a forum search there's a whole thread on it. I use it every single day and LOVE it!! :d
