What is your view on worthless threads?
I think they are neat. Especially, but not limited to, when they actually do stuff.

Flame. Flame flame.
Trooooooll. Discuss flame Mctroll. More troll, flame some more then discuss flame and trolls. Then we flamed some trolls. Then we trolled some discussions. Then flamed some more and discussed how-to troll flame. Vice versa, we then discussed how-to flame trolls. Easier. Especially when you carry pitchforks and netting.
I just want it to arrive. There's far too much speculation about it and its contents - like a 2000 reply thread discussing PR 1.2. Come on, lets just give Nookia a chance to release something thats nice, stable and without bugs and glitches. For all we know, they might simply be working their way through some very large ice-creams.
/rant :D
Ice creams are neat too. Because they indicate summer. And summer is neat.

There are 2 types of updates, new features and bug fixes. New features/capabilities/etc are lurvely and I have no problem waiting a while for those. Bugs are hateful and frustrtaing, and bug fixes should be released as soon as possible. They shouldnt be delayed whilst waiting for other non-essential enhancements to be completed, and the whole idea of having a major release every ..x months should go the way of the dodo.
Sorry, I've read the thread more closely and there appears to be 3 types of update. Bug fixes, new features, and cake. I will wait for cake but not forever, I do have other options available to me such as noodles... mmmm noodles.
since nokia reads these boards more topics on PR 1.2 might be a good thing

These things follow a bell curve. At some point your message peaks, quits resonating and becomes noise.
Something to consider.

If Nokia will open all closed parts community will have not to wait for updates, but will fix things them selfs :), and nokia will save money moving all maemo developers to meego.

I think that one of these waiting-for threads could be made into some sort of automated script and posted again for each new waiting situation. All you would have to do is replace some dates and variables and it would appear to be a brand new thread! For example, you could replace "PR 1.2" with "MeeGo 1.0" and have messages like "I can't believe it's another Monday again and MeeGo 1.0 isn't here yet!!!"
Then we could look at the long thread, know our impatience was being expressed, and we could find more useful and satisfying ways to live our lives.

The really sad thing is that one day soon, someone will genuinely discover when 1.2 is released and when they post a message on one of these threads no-one will believe them!
Maybe we are we all such sad F!$<kwits that we all run App manager everyday - just to be sure; just in case Nokia forgot to program that little icon to flash in the upper left corner...
C'mon, admit it - how many of us have an App manager shortcut on the desktop? How many of us check for available space on rootfs and keep the battery charged up for the morning just in case tomorrow is D-Day, or Independence Day -
or maybe just Groundhog Day..!
C'mon, admit it - how many of us have an App manager shortcut on the desktop?
Nope. Very balanced desktop. I click menu, more and app manager each time.
How many of us check for available space on rootfs and keep the battery charged up for the morning just in case tomorrow is D-Day, or Independence Day
Nope, in case of update I hook it up to the charger. But I manually check for updates at work not because the notification (it's been broken before) but because some updates popped after 4 AM and I want them.
It'll go away. I had the update sindrome with Firefox in the beginning when updates kept popping every 2 hours. Now every restart (1-3 days, that thing BLOATS) I get a toilet paper roll of updates I just OK. Most of my addons are mature and they just get polished and compatible and localized.
Not there yet, though, I keep tapping Update for now.

ETA: Oh, and, options are misleading. Where's the "angrily awaiting for 1.2 to be ready"? I want it to be ready, but I'm far, far away from happy. Especially with the drooling daily over apps that got updated but can't be installed.

Interesting poll results so far...
[1] Happy to wait until it is ready and hopefully bug free 42.16%
[2] I like cake 19.61%
[3] Must have it now and will keep posting useless s***t until it is ready 11.76%
[4a]Don't care waiting for MeeGo 7.84%
[4b]Waiting for 1.2 anti-****** feature (feature is not confirmed) 7.84%
[5]No thanks, I will wait for Jesus 5.88%
[6]Cannot vote I live in an oppressed country (e.g.UK ) 4.90%
1) It is genuinely good to see the sensible option at number one.
2) Lunacy raises it pretty little head at number 2 (this make me happy).
3) I was hoping this would be lower down the list but nevermind.
4a) Optimistic (are you half-empty or half-full?).
4b) I'm amazed this placed so highly.
5) It's a shame he got himself crucified. Bet he was popular at parties.."Hey Jesus, do us a favour can you turn this water to wine? Can you also rustle up a few donna kebabs while you're at it? cheers big man."
6) The UK is now a Police State. Judges can now refuse a trial by jury. Any dissidents that speak-out against The State will be corrected also ....hang-on there is someone at the door......Oh hello officer....oh those bracelets are lovely and shiney. I love the way they are interlinked with the chain in the middle. They fit me perfectly....cool i can ride in your police car too...

What is a "PR 1.2" ?
Perhaps Released 1.2
johnel

What is a "PR 1.2" ?
PR = Pissed-off ******.
It's basically someone waiting for a Nokia update but has unfortunately no patience whatsoever.
They also have a tendency to exhibit "lunacy". Constantly posting "where is the update?" knowing the outcome is the same (not ready for release yet).
Some have even started a "PR 1.3" thread. I could link to it here but do not want to encourage them.
"PR 1.2" is an update being developed and tested by Nokia for the n900. It has many bugfixes and includes QT (software that makes programs very shiney).
There are also rumours that the "PR 1.2" update can beat Chuck Norris in a fight (unconfirmed).
Many people consider the n900 still quite usable and prepared to wait for the update to be ready.

That's impossible, CN WORKS with Windows (without problems!). I'm sure he knows absolutely everything about the PR1.2 and after roundhousekicking the arctic monk even the secret release date...

Happy to wait until it is ready and hopefully bug free.
Otherwise we can start yet another thread whining for a proper quick PR1.2.1 fix before the long wait (and whining) for PR1.3 begins.
