View Full Version : Gmail POP3 on Nokia nn800
:) Guys, has anyone been successful in configuring gmail pop onto the n800? I followed the instructions i found on gmail's site, but it didn't work!
PLS put together the steps to follow if at all possible.
Thanks

No real secret to it. You need to enable secure pop3 port 993 for incoming and set ssl for outgoing port 465.

I've got it working, but I forgot how I did it.... I know that it is possible, though. Have you tried editing the connection-specific SMTP servers?

You can find instructions on Nokia's Tableteer site (using your n800).
If you go to the Support tab and enter the How Do I section, there are step-by-step instructions on how to set up your e-mail account, and they use Gmail as the example.
That should get you up and running.

I couldn't get gmail to work at first but it's fine now. It turned out that I had set password authentication to "Secure" instead of to "Normal". It might be worth your while to check this setting. Edit the account and click Next through the four dialogue boxes, then Advanced on the final screen.
I hope this helps.

I can't believe it was this easy, and it has had me stumped for over a year (okay, I haven't played with my 770 for most of that time!). Thanks!
Now, any idea of how to separate mail from separate gmail accounts into different folders, and how to selectively choose which accounts to retrieve mail from? I want to use the 770 for business travel for my wife or myself, so it would be a bother downloading the other's email (which then won't be retrieved from a home PC).
