Off-topic sections don't have a thanks button :)
Hit the "Thanks" button if you find this post useful... oh wait

If you aren't in Off-Topic and you don't see a Thanks! button, you have an unusual problem and should not post your question in Off-Topic because it's not Off-Topic.
If you are in Off-Topic and you don't see a Thanks! button, that is normal.
This feels related to the problem of a logic professor who visits an island where only two types of inhabitants dwell: those who only lie and those who only tell the truth. An inhabitant walks up to him and says "I am a liar." The question is which category of inhabitant does he belong to?
That discussion definitely belongs in Off-Topic and does not get a Thanks! button.

Thanks button will not show up if your email is not confirmed.

yes, Off Topic is for talking 'sh1t'.
Your profile wont get any 'post counts' and you cant thank people.
Also any Threads moved into offtopic will reduce your post count but your thank count will remain the same.
This is why some people have the unusual situation of having 'Thanks' but no 'posts' count on their profiles.
A bit mental but thats the way this forum is designed

I've noticed that, and got it fixed !, I was doing a "mass" mail cleanup today and lost the confirmation email, I had to change it back and forth again to get it fixed

When looking at the threads to be found in Off Topic, it's a good decision
