ok , heres my question , one of the few things im unhappy with on my N800 is the media player . and the reason being there seems to be no way to make it read just the filename for my mp3's. ive used an ID# renamer on my pc on all my files and there shows as being no id3 tag at all on my pc , but when i transfer to my N800 there are tags of some sort... i need help with this as im real anal about how my files are listed , i dont want any id3 tag or metadata of any kind displayed , just filename...example Aerosmith - Amazin thats how all my mp3s are titled artist , space , dash , space , trackname any suggestions?

Personally, I'm rather non-scatologic about my music (if it plays, I listen. That's it), but I came across an article about similar worries about the music player on the PMA430: http://www.pointlisse.com/PMA430/html/showArticle.cfm?articleID=62

Maybe there are pointers for you in there.

Have you seen Media Monkey? from here : http://www.mediamonkey.com/

I think it has an option to "auto tag from filename"

You select the format of your naming and it will adjust the tags for you.

There are also ways to just remove all tags of any kind from files. For Linux (and most unixes) there is the id3 program, for instance. I recently used that to erase all IDV1 tags from my entire music collection because some IDV1 and IDV2 tagged songs had conflicting info, so I threw out the one and will update the remainder as I go along.

MP3's can have tags applied in multiple ways, in other words. Other music types also have tag standards they use.

Aerosmith - Amazing thats the way all my filenames are artist space dash space title and each word in artist and tital is capitalized

Is there a way for canola to group my songs from itunes in the correct categories? For
example, it just lists my songs like 21-Wonderwall without listing the artist or album.
name. Do I just rename my songs like what munky261 has to do?
