Nokia USA has updated it`s online store again to say explicitly that new
orders for the Nokia 770 Internet Tablet are expected to be shipped by
December 30, 2005. This is to fulfill a large number of backorders.

Well, it seems line Nokia is going to, at last, ship the Nokia 770`s that
have been pre-ordered.

For those who haven`t ordered yet and can`t wait for December 30, it might
be worth checking out your local [LINK: /content/view/142/2/] CompUSA store
if they already have the Nokia 770 already in stock....Read the full article. (http://www.internettablettalk.com/content/view/145)

Obviously this is good news. To nitpick, the Nokia message says the company is currently fulfilling backorders.

I know everyone here is hoping that means the November orders will arrive well before the end of the month.

Guys, I called them, and apparently you have to be on the "first shipment" to recieve it before the 30th.

So basically, if you ordered before, like, the 25th or something, you'll be fine.

I received an email requesting that I reconfirm by phone my order which was from November 14th. (or they would cancel in 72 hours). When I called the clerk confirmed that they had stock and were starting to ship, after reconfirmation.

After reading scsfello's message just now, I checked my email and sure enough, I've got one of those notes from Nokia as well. I immediately called then and was told that there is no problem with the order, the email was sent out because of some error in their system and that I should ignore the email. I was also told that they are still waiting for the 770 to arrive (but I figure this is a randomly generated response -- at least I didn't get the "Godzilla has destroyed all 770s" or "It was all just a radio hoax, sucker!" responses).

Be careful. When I called, the lady had to "re-confirm" my order, or she said it would have cancelled. A number of other folks also had the same experience. I wonder if the person you called might just have missed the memo. Maybe it would be good to give them one more call to make sure your order is still "confirmed".

I received the same message from Nokia, order confirmation, wanting me to call customer support within the next 72 hours or they would cancel my order. When I called they wanted to confirm my order info. I asked why and they said they do this.... I asked, "for everyone?" They said "for most." I think it was interesting. I also asked abut shipment and was told either mid-December or earlier. I voiced my concern about seeing these devices available in retail stores when pre-orders are not being shipped. It was quiet after that. Thus, the call ended.

Good advice -- I'll do that. Thanks!

I received a similar e-mail yesterday (unfortunately, I didn't see it until this morning), and called this morning to confirm my credit card info. They told me it would ship out of the warehouse within 24 hours.

I also joined the Comp USA ranks December 5th, and cancelled my Nokiausa order after calling from CUSA Raleigh,NC with the last stock unit in hand. The phone rep was quoting the Jan 6th date, which I took to mean he didn't really know since the Nokiausa website was already mentioning order fulfilment. It was simply a case of not being able to depend on the reps or website for good information.

Nokia are well aware of the upset caused by the availability in another retail channel while those promised units prior to that time are left wanting.

I have a specific use for this device next week, so having it in hand was worth the roughly $40 difference. Like everyone else, I would have been happier to have had it from Nokiausa directly, as scheduled. Mistakes happen.

I'm glad they brought this to market, it's a great device, and the more people who have them, the better.

call... every day.

It seems to me that Nokia is treating us like sh*t because it's easy and more profitable to do so.

Consider, though, that they pay some company to answer our customer service calls. I suspect that they probably pay a charge based on the number of calls per month and pay extra for the calls that require a live person.

In my honest opinion, we all have sufficient reason to call Nokia's customer support line every day - multiple times a day if need be - until we get an honest, accurate answer about our orders. They've certainly created this condition. They accepted our orders in mid-November, told us the orders would ship Nov. 17th, then continually mis-informed us as to the status of our orders. Right now we have no more reason to believe our orders will ship by Dec. 30th than we had with the Nov. 17th date. Theoretically, Nokia can continue this practice indefinitely. As long as it is more profitable to feed the retail channel at the gross disadvantage of direct customers, we will see more and more delays. They don't have to honor our orders. They can wait longer than we can.

However, if they get enough volume of calls to the customer support lines - particularly in this critical holiday shopping time - it presents a problem for Nokia that they would need to address. Let's face it, right now they're ignoring us. Let your concerns be heard as frequently as is necessary, and I think we'll see some action on Nokia's part.

Be completely clear on your issues:
- When can you expect your order to ship?
- What is the reason for the endless delays?

I think it is perfectly reasonable for us to demand answers in this manner. It's a situation they created for themselves.

Hopefully there are still enough of us that haven't given in to the evil CompUSA tax that we can be more than a small blip on the radar screen .

Hi, new here. Like everyone else searching for info on my order and ran across this site.

So, I called Nokia USA five minutes ago to check up and was told my order had been moved to shipping status and that I will receive a tracking number today. Placed the order on 11/16.

I'll let you know if I get the tracking number.

A little update. I just called and talked to a different operator, and, I'm sure you'll be shocked, she said it didn't ship. That they have not gotten any stock in yet.

This is ridiculous. Shouldn't they all be working from the same information?

Just another version of the story to add here. My friend in the states who is buying mine for me called to confirm and was told they were shipping 'sometime in December'.

Ok, I have said from early on that the lack of info and the launch in general were screw-ups by Nokia. That being said, the higher price at CompUSA isn't evil. It's business. I buy cutting edge tech all the time and very often, the price to have it first is higher. Of course, it does seem genuinely odd that the price from Nokia direct is lower than a retail store - I would expect both to sell at MSRP or if one was lower, it would be the retail price. But, I'm willing to pay extra to get it first. Actually, I got mine yesterday from CompUSA.

Welcome to the runaround. I placed my order early on the 15th, which is before the big Slashdot posting, and my order status hasn't changed since then. If you are hoping to get it this year, go to CompUSA. There is very little chance you will see a shipment from NokiaUSA before 2006.

Wonders may never end - did anybody see the comments posted on http://nokia770.com/262#comments

"Ordered on November 14th from nokiausa (early). Got the email yesterday. Called today, and they charged my credit card and the unit is shipping out today.

The rep told me they took approx 1200 backorders. The first 430 were processed, charged and shipped today. If you were one of the first 430 to place your order, it’s on its way!"

Hope that's good news for everybody.

Got my shipping notice today- and I ordered on the 15th, after the Slashdotting....

Looking at the fedex tracking, it actually shipped yesterday at 3:15pm. About now I'm sorry I went with the 3 day, free shipping. I thought (at the time) who cares if I get in on the 22nd of nov.....

Anyone whose received a ship notification... care to share approximately what their order number is?

I ordered mine around 5:45pm EST on Nov. 14. I have not received a ship notification and my order is still in open status. My order number is in the area of 572181xx.

Thanks

572181xx.Posting even a slightly redacted order number makes me nervous, but I also ordered on the 14th, just later in the day and my order number is higher than the one you posted. ...The fact that my order seems to have shipped first seems unfair, to say the least.

Mine is higher than yours Matt- 572372XX

But who knows if that really means anything.....

Strange. Mine is quite a bit higher (57250XXX) and it shipped (ordered on November 16th). I did call them yesterday to verify that my order was still valid though - perhaps that did it (I did not receive the infamous e-mail message asking me to do so however).

I got the 'problem' email message on Tuesday night, and didn't get a chance to respond till the next day (which would be, Wed).

Which means they shipped it pretty much after I called them back and 'verified' my CC info and the order..... Which I was worried about, since the agent said she had to 'leave voicemail' for someone else to manually do the CC verification.

So my time line was:

- order the 15th (after slashdot)
- wait wait wait wait
- email 'problem with order' arrives Dec 6
- call to verify on Dec 7
- 770 ships on Dec 7
- email notification of shipment Dec 8

bizzare.

:D Ordered November 15 (after the Slashdot article!); replied immediately to the "please confirm your order" email a few days ago. Received the shipment notification and FedEx tracker a few minutes ago. Looks like it was actually shipped late yesterday. Interesting - as of last evening, the charge hadn't posted to my credit card. Order # 57244xxx. Virginia, USA. I opted for express saver shipping, so it won't arrive until Tuesday.

Hurray! I received my ship notice this morning. Well, wonders never cease. I thought for sure I wouldn't see it ship in 2006. Thank you Nokia for finally pulling your heads from your a**es. I'm happy to see that NokiaUSA finally has as good a relationship with NokiaEurope as CompUSA does :p

I suspect most of us who settled for the 3-day shipping are the ones who didn't give in to the pressure to by it at CompUSA. Same for those who used the $50 discount trick on the web site (which I unfortunately did not).

For those that got next-day shipping (assuming no $50 discount), it's a no-brainer to go with CompUSA (I'm assuming NJ 6% sales tax):
$359.99 + $22.95 next-day shipping + 6% tax = $403.94
$399.99 + 6% tax = $423.98
So, for twenty bucks more, you could upgrade from "next-day after Nokia finally decides to ship" to "immediate satisfaction". These folks have already demonstrated that they're willing to spend an extra $22.95 to get the device two days sooner. It's obvious that another $20 isn't such a big deal in light of the prospect of ending the torturous wait.

Out of curiousity, is there anyone who:
- ordered a 770 from NokiaUSA shortly after Nov. 14th
- got the next-day shipping (+$22.95)
- didn't do the $50 discount trick
- has a CompUSA within a reasonable distance with 770s in stock
- and, DIDN'T run out to get it at CompUSA?
