View Full Version : Gmail alert not working

Since I installed the Gmail "notifier" on my desktop computer that provides internet access to my N800, I no longer gets email alerts on the NIT. If I click on "view e-mail inbox" the new email is not there. But if I go to the Gmail website it shows up. In the past when a new email came in my blue LED would flash and I would hear a sound alert. Even with "mnotify" installed, I get no new email alerts. It is set to check every 5 minutes. Must I uninstall the Gmail notifier on my desktop?

Update: I uninstalled the "Gmail Notifier" that I had downloaded from Google and the email alerts started to work on my N800. I then downloaded a different notifier from http://www.gmailnotifier.com and it still works.

do you mean emails dont come through at all? if so delete some of your emails on your phone. then the rest will come through.

there seems to be a limit. found that out myself the other day

I must now go to the Gmail website to "see" my new email.

I use Thunderbird on my desktop to filter my emails after I have read them... I do it like once ever few weeks, it keeps the inbox folder itself from getting way too big.

Is this the mnotify applet? I tried it a long time ago and gave up on it.
I now use Modest pulling email from gmail via imap, and generally it works flawlessly, checking every 5 minutes

It works alright. I really hate when it fails with the password sending and stuff... Cause it's like 'Password wrong' when it's obviously correct. I made as script called kmail to invoke killall modest.

I was doing exactly what you are doing, gmail via imap checking every 5 minutes.

Maybe try to delete the account in Modest and setup the account again. Modest has issues.

I'd use claws mail if I could get it to run in a low profile like modest does. And had the LED blinker.

Sorry Den:
I didn't catch which email app you are using on your NIT.
Is it the default app?

I want to have two gmail accounts setup and be able to easily choose which address shows up as "From" before I send.

Any ideas?

coosbaytv, modest pulling email from gmail via imap works for me most of the time, with 4 gmail accounts. you can choose the sender account. occasionally hangups require a reboot.

thanks wesgreen:

can you tell me how to inform modest as to which email account you want to send from? Does it ask as you hit send or does it default to one?

it sends from the default email acct. of your choice (choose it in settings), but if you click to the right of that in the sender field, it shows the others as options to click on to send from instead.

Did you manage to fix this Den.

I spoke too soon before, and since reflashing, Modest does not pick up email or generate notifications unless Modest is actually open.

It works perfectly whilst Modest is open. I cannot understand why, and cannot see what has changed.

ignore me. I'm an idiot. had a brainwave and solved within 10 minutes of posting.

when i reflashed and reinstalled diabo5 and telescope, I omitted to apply the hack to copy the system notifier to the status bar.

one command in xterm later and normal service has resumed.
