I just got this from eBay 2 days ago and it charges my Nokia N800 while I am watching video for an unlimited amount of hours (just need to change 1 AA battery every 2-3 hours)... but then when I am ready to be more portable and surf the internet I disconnect it and still have a full battery. It also fits inside my LOGIC PLT-2 STRONGMAN PDA CASE for easy portability. Weighs 70 grams. Check out the links below...

2-3 hours off a single AA!? Is that a NiMH or an alkaline?
I'm currently using a battery pack that takes 4AA, (2 pair of parallel, with a voltage regulator chip) that ran my Zaurus an extra 8 hours or so, haven't timed it on the n800, but it doesn't fit in my case, which is the same as yours.

Interesting, but I simply bought cheap Hong Kong batteries over ebay; they cost about $10 each including shipping, so if I think I need extra battery power, I just slip a couple extra in my pocket. This is cheaper and less cumbersome than your teathered aa batteries solution seems to be.
Here is the name and contact information of the Hong Kong dealer I bought from via ebay on two different occasions, and who seems reputable to me. I wouldn't suggest calling this person, but if you see something that he's selling, my experience suggests that you would get prompt service and the item you bought isn't junk.

Except that you cannot hot-swap internal batteries. Apparently not even with the N800 plugged into the wall.

True, alas. I have often wished for hot-swapping of batteries.

It would probably as simple as adding a capacitator (is that the right word? I'm not very good at technical English).
My old Fujitsu ST3400 tablet has one: I have several minutes to replace a dead battery with a new one (but that beastie really needs it: with WiFi on a battery gives me less than an hour's worth of computeringering) without having to reboot. I just put it in standby and switch.
I wouldn't call it a design fault in the N800, but certainly an oversight.

Yeah, a capacitor is the correct device. I can agree that, given the ultramobile nature of the tablet, lack of this functionality is at best an oversight.

Well I watched 2 episodes of the UFC yesterday (1 Hour each) and I keep it charging while I watched them and then I wanted to surf the internet so I disconnected it because I wanted the freedom and notcied my battery was still full. I use 2500mAh rechargable Energizer NiMh. With mine it fits directly underneath (to the south of it... not in back of it) the Nokia N800 and I stick the tiny charging wire in a pouch behind (where 2 more spare batteries are if needed) so it doesn't scratch my screen.
PS: My screen brightness is ALWAYS at the brightest setting so I use maximum juice always.

As part of my accessory review series, I have a Proporta charger (http://www.proporta.com/F02/PPF02P05.php?t_id=2763&t_mode=des) on the way too. Keep watching!

I have 2 extras batteries and they are less cumbersome as you said... but since I have a great case that holds this charger it aint so bad and it comes in very useful when I want to watch video for hours and hours and not be bothered being interupted to change the battery... but when surfing the net I like total freedom in my hands I do not use it... i rather change the battery.

Yeah I almost bought that one... more power... not that much heavier. If I didn't have 2 extra batteries in my case with me at all times I would have bought this one.

Thanks for the info. Despite what everyone says about this being unweildy it has one HUGE advantage if you're out and about or traveling: AA's can be found anywhere! I have to pick one up.

When I am in the mood of watching video for many hours in a row I do not like to get stressed about changing a battery while i am enjoying my recorded tv shows... but when surfing the internet I don't mind being totally free and shutting down for a minute to change the battery... i use my Nokia N800 between 6-10 hours each day I work... I couldn't be more happy with an electronic product than this... but I will say... on my days off I do not turn it on at all and have little use for it.

I use Tekkeon myPower which after doing a test of playing a movie, after 12 hours still had a full charge on my internal battery. The product also comes with an adapter for the 700 and the cable is a USB cable so you can plug the cable into a laptop to charge the IT.

One minor caveat though: Using an auxiliary battery charger is not the most energy-efficient way to use batteries. You're essentially using batteries to mimick AC power and the end result is that a 2.5 amp battery won't give you even close to 2.5 amps in the device.
Still, for those of us who are not of a green disposition, it just means buying more batteries... :p
