Hi Guys,

Just wanted to clarify couple of things,

1) Is there any official date for Maemo6/MeeGo1.0 release for N900 from Nokia (so users in UK can keep the warranty intact)

2) Is it worth switching to MeeGo?

3) Any good video demonstrating MeeGo in action on N900 as I have seen many videos on youtbe but they are not very impressive mainly in one aspect which is that after installing MeeGo N900 will be converted to Mini PC Tablet, but I really wanted my N900 to look like a Phone with hidden functionalities of PC. [I hope I am making some sense]

Your comments will be appreciated;

thanks any ways guys...Now after search, search and search I decided to wait for some more time until we get stable release and some other peoples experiences before make a final switch.

I wouldn't spring for it until it is known that it can make and receive phone calls. As mentioned, there are already pre-releases of Meego for the N900, but I haven't heard anything about them being able to make actual phone calls.

to answer all questions
no official release will be supported by nokia
it will be released by 30th sept. *not sure*
right now, not worth flashing
only thing working is wifi/bluetooth and wifi has no use since no firefox etc
and its not even a beta atm, its being developed and performance is slow
and yes, it will be better than maemo by all means

Why would have an N900 for phone calls anyway? ;-)

I didn't really know it can not make a phone call...so why its released on N900 at all then....

Because MeeGo is an open source project from The Linux Foundation and the N900 is its official ARM platform. Unstable weekly releases for testing are an essential part of the open development of this project. See http://wiki.meego.com/Release_Engineering/Plans/1.1

You can follow the progress of this bug at

Bug 5662 - Nokia N900 modem does not turn on in Ofono.
http://bugs.meego.com/show_bug.cgi?id=5662

Actually Carsten commented a few hours ago that patches that fix this problem already exist and need to be integrated to oFono.

If you are looking for answers about the MeeGo project (including the N900 images) I recommend you to use http://forum.meego.com/forumdisplay.php?f=7

well because it's a hybrid phone and internet tablet... And it has telephony features ofc why not use it?
