For some reason when I tried to emulate games using FCE Ultra on the most recent version, the screen flickers when trying to use the screen.
If you are having issues I suggest you try this release (Bora 2)
Less features, but... NO Flickering

I actually found that the first version released wasn't too bad either, it has less on-screen playability but you can use the buttons better... so Bora1 and Bora2 are great, but Bora3, dunno what happened here ;-)

You can try change the frame rate & also try turning off sound... but play around with the frame rate, on some games the only way to get it to operate well is by changing it to "0"

Get in touch with Tak. He's got an N800 to test that on.
I really hope it's not my fault (I tweaked those buttons to remove the white pixel fringes).
Any solutions to this problem yet ?

I just tested the emu and it seems really great apart from the fact that it won't switch to correct size except when I click on the screen. Also the right side buttons are not visible at all until the screen blanks to screen saver. If you click on the screen after that, it's perfectly visible (seems like the first fullscreen update isn't working). Also, seems like pressing the A/B buttons switches the resolution to 2x scaled mode. And that flickers really annoyingly. If those bugs are fixed, this will be a great emu indeed.

Doesn't look like there is... i'm having the exact same problem.
Does any programmer used to developing on this API knows what simple line we would have to change? ;)
just tried it again today to see if there were changes... no luck. I tried visualboyadvanced but that thing is horribly slow.. Man NES games on the n800 would be so sweeeet ;)

Tak made some changes i beta tested on IRC today, we got to a point where buttons were showing up properly and the screen wasn't zooming like mad at every button pressed making it overall very functionnal even if not completely polished :-)
I forgot to ask him if he'll make that version public (he can only test on n770, that's why i was testing) but i'm pretty sure we're going to see those packages pretty soon (or else i'll mirror them myself haha! ;-)
Actually, here is the latest version i tried, might as well grow the beta testers list ;-)
It's not perfect but for me it's a huge improvement :)

what about the sound? Is it possible to play with sound and no frame skipping?

The new update works great for me. I try soo many roms and they all work. Some roms better then others but they work. IS there a wat to turn off the sound for touching the screen. When you hit the A/B button you here the N800 interface button sound. :)
Good work.

I turned off the system sounds and it runs slightly faster. Try it out. Under control panel udner "sounds" turn off the Key and Touch screen sounds.
AWESOME! Except for the sound stuttering a bit this is very playable (already finished world one of smb3 on my N800) THANKS!

Very nice framerates now (30+ on 770). I found a trick to reduce stuttering slightly, but requires frameskip of 1-2.
if you have an n800 i'd be curious how this runs
http://pupnik.de/InfoNES_0.01_armel.tgz
(edit) and if a N800 user could test this i'd be much obliged - it's Tak's fceu with tweaked sound and a higher frameskip. does sound play cleanly?
Install regular (most recent) FCEU onto device, then untar this and execute fceu2 from command-line. Or mv fceu2 /usr/bin/fceu if you want to run from menu.

Hi,
Thanks for your effort - however sound is still skippy on the n800 :(

Thank you verry much! Just played some Rampage and Bubble Bobble, seems to be verry playable (with framskip=1 and no sound on my N800).
Sometimes I wonder why an 1,66 mhz cpu from 1983 performs better that current hardware :o Still, great application for IT!

just thought to let you guys know that fceu works on n810. A+B buttons would be better suited to be in place of the start and select buttons though. Full speed, no stutter on music. Seemed just perfect for me. No frameskip needed. Anyway, keep up the great work. How's the snes emu going?
Ok i had a lot of fun using fceu so far, but came across a problem yesterday. So i'm playing SMB3 and in this scene : http://img442.imageshack.us/img442/439/77125582yd8.png
one has to pickup an enemy using the B button and while holding that button pressed jumping up to that wall and throw the enemy against it. Hoever that means you have to press the A + B button at the same time which is not possible. So currently i'm stuck in this level. Any chance we can have something like a "lock B button function" ? Or an additional mapping of the buttons to hardware keys ? Thanks!
Unfortunately no. You can basicly just drop it and then it will slide until it hits something. I don't think there is a way to get it up there without jumping up with it.
Can't install this on OS2008, libdbus-1-2 is missing. I think we need recompiled package, libdbus-1-3 is available for OS2008.
Try the version in Chinook extras-devel.
http://xmame.garage.maemo.org/install/fceu.install
I get the error about missing libdbus for this repo too :(
(Any news on that problem with pressing multiple buttons btw ? Mario needs my help ! :D )
Yes that works thanks!
(Also i had my hopes up that the sound wouldn't be choppy anymore with OS2008 but it's just as in OS2007)

What good games have people played on an IT with FCEU?
(I'n not too much of a SUperMArio bros. games, and never played many NES games). thanks
FCEU is the main emunlator for ITs right? I am reading that others don't work too well.

any way to map keys such as A and B onto the n810 keyboard?
Ever since i installed OS2008 i can't get fceu to install it says it requires libdbus-1-2 but i have libdbus-1-3 installed... Do i have to downgrade ? What other progs might THAT possibly brake...?

You can remap the buttons by running `fceu -inputcfg gamepad1` from the command line. If we can determine a clearly good default choice, I'll put it into the config file that ships.
im a noob at everything really how exactly do i do this
do i go into x terminal?
and im also running the fceu emulator through the xmaeme gui.

i get "error opening gamepad1"
but mybe when ever i figure out how to set my keys up im going to have the
d-pad be the d-pad,
A and B will be < > or o and p (9,0)
enter is START
backspace is SELECT
Try installing it from the chinook extras-devel repository.
Edit: There was an issue with the first fceu package that got uploaded, but the current one should be ok.
I get the same (libdbus-1-2) error with this repo as well

I've been unable to install fceu since i updated from the beta 2008OS. An attempt to install from the app manager gives me a corrupted file error, an attempt from command line cites a size mismatch on the package as the problem. Anyhow, I'm kindof wondering if anybody else has seen this problem and if there is a potential fix.
I get the Application packages missing: libdbus-1-2 (>=0.61)
@tak
Thanks for that pointer. Downloading the deb and installing it manually finally worked. No idea what's wrong with my repos. Now all that's missing is decent sound :)

funny now when i try the exact same command "fceu -inputcfg gamepad1 /media/mmc2/roms/smb1.nes" (which only started up the emulator and the game not let me configure keys) now it give me error
"fatal signal segmentation fault (sdl parachute deployed)
segmentation fault"
this is so frustrating i cannot map keys to keyboard :confused:

ok i tried the same thing in root and i get this error. (emulator runs good) but i want to map the keys to the keyboard. the error it gives me is..
"process 4417: D-Bus library appears to be incorrectly set up; failed to read machine uuid: Failed to open "/var/lib/dbus/machine-id": No such file or directory
See the manual page for dbus-uuidgen to correct this issue.

Aborted."
i did however try the fceu on the first page bora2 as bora4 gives me libdus 1-2 error and i was able to map keys with out the error above.

Thanks for porting this emulator. I downloaded and tried it out yesterday on my N800 (running OS2008). I only played for half an hour but I love it. I tried Tecmo Bowl and River City Ransom with it.
But I do have a question, in River City Ransom, you need to press both A and B at the same time to jump. Is there a way the onscreen controls support that?

Tak said you can download fceultra on your comp, remap the keys there and then copy it over to your n810. I'm going to give that a try tonight, hopefully it works

I have a suggestion concerning the double keypress issue. what about adding another on-screen button that turns the B key on and off. Just like Capslock and Shift on your keyboard.
At least for the super mario games, that should do the trick.
Besides that, i'm really happy with this emulator project. kudos!

Where can I find libdbus1-2? Apt-get install says its not available , but is referred to in another package. Package may be missing, obsolete or only available from anothe source
