Apparently it is planned to ship outside Germany.
You can request preordering information at
http://wetab.mobi/en

For Amazon.de, no they don't ship computer stuff abroad.

"MeeGo" based, they're in no way compliant. And they'd need to sell it outside Germany for any appreciable number of people to use it. Not that I'd buy it, what with the poky hardware :/

Define compliant. I mean, it's an open source OS, right? What compliance do you speak of that I'm more than likely not aware of?

MeeGo actually has a compliance spec (http://wiki.meego.com/Quality/Compliance) in development that vendors must follow to be able to use the MeeGo trademark and be reasonably considered compatible. The version of MeeGo they used was before the first version of the spec was even released, and is pretty much guaranteed to not be by the time it's settled.

There's nothing stopping them, but they can't call their OS "MeeGo" or even "MeeGo compliant."

Basically to be able to use the MeeGo trademark you need to be compliant.

http://wiki.meego.com/Quality/Compliance

Long story short it means you can't remove a lot of things from the system, butcher it, claim it's MeeGo and have disappointed users not have their applications work on your devices...

Or as some has done, dump the user experience on top of OpenSUSE, with no sight of MeeGo Core and make a product with a name close to MeeGo that gets confused by bloggers and newssites for being MeeGo-based, where MeeGo applications wouldn't function properly on..

Compliance is a negatively-laden word but in practice it is just trademark enforcement and is very similar to many other distributions such as OpenSUSE's (http://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:Trademark_guidelines), Ubuntu's (http://www.ubuntu.com/aboutus/trademarkpolicy) or Fedora's (http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Legal/TrademarkGuidelines).

The goal for compliance is to avoid fragmentation..

the most german reviews i read were really bad.
the most people said it would be far away from a finish product.

I think that may be the preferred 'taste' for this crowd. As long as the product is 'open', then most people here may not be bothered with getting half baked good.

That certainly would describe me, at least. It's kinda like if someone tried to convince me to marry someone just because they're a good looking professor with a great sense of humour and a wonderful personality, and they have loads of money, but it's just that they're a porcupine and I'm not at all into porcupines.

The multimedia entertainment is also a strong part of this tablet.

the price for the cheaper, non-3g version has recently dropped to 250€ (in my area), and i have to say, it's well worth its money.
i probably would have been disappointed if i paid >400€ for it, but who can complain at that price level? :)

it's a nice, big (though slim) 12" tablet, and with ubuntu it does everything i need it to. the only real issue i have is battery life (around five hours), but since i mainly use it as a "couch device", that's not much of a problem.

the meego os that ships with it is kind of nice, but the fact that there's no adblock for the stock browser killed it for me. the atom cpu struggles with ad-laden sites, but under ubuntu/ff4/adblock+noscript, it's as smooth as can be.
