Can't find 'make' in xterm

Logged in as root.
can change directories
can't find 'make'

i don't get it....
type help and 'make' is not there....
what do i need to get control of xterm?

there is no c compiler included in the retailed system. to compile C code, I belive you have to install the developer kit called "scratch box" and the gcc for the arm should included somewhere......

My understanding is that presently there isn't a compile of GCC for on device development. At present I believe the only way you can compile is with Scratchbox on your pc. If there is an on device package then please enlighten me.
