Also note that for everything to work visually it's best to use the theme customizer and set the font to Tahoma. The hex of the blue I use is 1952FF.

Many many thanks to wazd for the original Marina Theme, D-iivil for his constant help at every stage (pretty much since I joined the community!) Mankir for the calendars and all the originators of the original pre-modded icons, including Biggzy for his systeminfowidget and the original bookmark applet from which I based mine. Icons not made by myself are generally from the usual sources like DeviantART, iconsite myway and iconarchive.

Any requests for other icons please just ask!


Dany-69's Pixmaps and Widget Script

Thanks to Dany-69 we now have a way of installing ALL widget and pixmap images via the 'Extra D4rK' Icon which will appear in your main menu on reboot after the 1.0-6 Icon Theme update.

Other Bits

Desktop Clock Widget (http://maemo.org/downloads/product/Maemo5/desktop-clock-widget/) and Calendar Home Widget (http://maemo.org/downloads/product/Maemo5/cal-home-widget/) are mandatory for 'the look', the clock theme files are in the 'Random Bits' folder attached.


Custom Hildon-Desktop

One of the easiest ways of making your N900 seem like a new device is to use a custom hildon-desktop. I've attached my preferred hildon-desktop, courtesy of a collaboration between MohammadAG, Matan and thp which includes: Faster kinetic scrolling throughout the OS, a custom transition.ini from MohammadAG, modified task switcher, the ability to have up to 9 desktops and a host of other patches and fixes.

To install copy to your N900 (or MyDocs, or /home/user/MyDocs, they're all the same thing- the first folder you see when you connect your N900 to your PC in mass storage mode). Then enter the following (bold bit only!) in x-term:


sudo gainroot (enter)
cd MyDocs(enter)
dpkg -i hildon-desktop_double_2.2.138-1+0m5_armel.deb (enter)


To make it even easier once you've typed as far as:

dpkg -i hildon-desk press the 'tab' button on the screen in terminal and the name will autocomplete.

- the blue font (e-mail widget) could be brighter.
- the ninja as standard contact is not soo good.

This theme is amaaaaaaayzing altho it does look like Im missing some bits :s but It could be that after 6 months of owning this phone I still dont know anything about it or how to use it for anything as a phone or a mobile fap machine, I cant even manage to install a bloody different font for gods sake. Is there any chance you could add some icons for Xchat, BattleGeweled, Mediabox, TVCatchup and Grooveshark?

Hey guys, just got back so I'll try and have an update out by the end of the week.

There are a few bits that need tweaking like the black bar on the lockscreen (lol which isn't long enough for Wednesdays), new call buttons, more icons to do and a few little extras :D

First off, thanks so much for this theme. I love it.

One question, the updated theme changed the font color of the email/sms notifications from the blue to a brownish color...is there a way to go back to the blue, the brown ends up being too dark for me to read the email address of the sender.

Go to theme customizer in settings, select it, scroll down and click apply settings mate that should set everything to blue,

Thank you. 2 things tho budd: I have the normal stock calendar widget and my background did change ( angel smoking & drinking right?) ... so do I still need the calendar home widget?
And secondly, just a note for you: anytime you go to converstations, file manager, ... anything that offers multi select to do... Your theme does not highlight anything. it always stays black in not only the programs I just listed but pretty much anything that requires hilghting to select. There is never a highlight, even if you tap and hold for more options somewhere that offers it, the option box will pop up but the selection will not hilight?? It really becomes a problem when your trying to delete or move multiple files or conversations? The only time I have seen a highlight so far is in conversations for instance, if you tap and hold on a conversation and the option box to 'open contact card or delete', THEN there is a really cool textured blue highlight that I can tell you put a little extra into. It's a shame that it's not incorporated throughout the whole theme. I really like it. Is there any way to make this highlight, be there to highlight everything when needed pretty much? ..

Awesome theme though man I have to say! This is the first theme I have changed to in a long time, for me that is saying a lot! keep up the great work

Nice one mate!

You'll be running the 1.0-1 or 1.0-2 update, which both had a gtkrc issue which lead to the issues you're having. Update to 1.0-3 in devel now, re-boot, switch themes to another theme (you need to do this to clear the image cache), switch back to D4rK, then reboot and you'll be all good.

You'll only need to do this for this update as it's a bugfix, future updates will run as normal.

The calendar home widget should be mandatory, its brilliant and also fixes the issue with the date numbers (top left of the widget) as it changes them to black.

Hahaha come on give me some credit here LOL:D All jokes aside I tried clearing the cache and all, but to no avail. Had to run out of the house so didn't uninstall and clear any residual, but will do that late tonight and report back to you.

Ok buddy, I got this working by uninstalling, and deleting residuals from opt/usr/share themes. Once I reinstalled 1.0.3 everything was running fine.

D4, thanks buddy for the awesome job once again!


EDIT: Removed text with instructions on how to edit gtkrc, colors.config and css file for calendar date to appear on top corner w/out calendar home widget installed due to unexpected reboot.

D4 I will pm you so you can try what I did and see if you have any issues.



EDIT #2: Kept the theme all day and played around with it and haven't had any further side effects. If anyone else wants to try the change, below you will find what I did. Obviously the usual caution and attention applies and I am not liable if anyone has issues :confused:



1) Went to /opt/usr/share/themes/M4riNa-D4rK and in the colors.config file changed the painted text color to read in the first paragraph
PaintedTextColor=#000000

2) Went to /opt/usr/share/themes/M4riNa-D4rK/css and changed the painted text color to read as
}
.PaintedTextColor {
color: #000000;
}

3) Went to /opt/usr/share/themes/M4riNa-D4rK/gtk-2.0 and opened gtkrc and searched for text colors and changed the painted text colors to read as

# text colors
color["DefaultTextColor"] = "#fbfbfb"
color["SecondaryTextColor"] = "#015cff"
color["ActiveTextColor"] = "#015cff"
color["DisabledTextColor"] = "#999999"
color["PaintedTextColor"] = "#000000"


Reboot and the date should now show.

Hey D4. I noticed that it affects the update bar:mad: The font is black so once the blue bar covers the font, the font color is not changed to white, but rather stays black. Not a 100% win win situation unfortunately.

hmmm... I think the only win-win situation is to keep the colours as they are and suggest people use the calendar home widget.

Have you tried it? It really is much better than the standard calendar widget... no comparison!

Yeah I have heard from other people as well about the calendar widget. D4, I agree that it is best to leave alone as is. Plus it's a hell lot easier installing a widget then doing all of the above :)

Thanks mate! OK you need to make sure it's 1.0-5 you're using, if you've got Fapman hit 'update catalogs' before updating, that should do it.

Once installed do the usual switch themes, switch back and re-boot and you'll be good to go.

I've also added a custom transitions.ini to the mix ;)

One little question:

How can i obtain the list of mail/web links on desktop and blue word "google" under clock like in the second screenshot ?

I have seen "Google" image in the directory but i don't know how to load it.

OK the links is easy, just add bookmarks to your desktop and put them one over the other! ;)

The word google is actually the touchsearch (http://maemo.org/downloads/product/Maemo5/touchsearch/) widget, click the link to download.

Once that's installed, download the various widgets zip from the first post and you'll find the blue google in the touchsearch folder.

Copy using filebox and paste into the relevant touchsearch folder (as per the zip, I'm sure touchsearch is just in /opt), overwriting the original. If it doesn't show edit the widget settings to go from colour to ghosted then back and that should be it.

Hello mate! Check the first post, under 'backgrounds' is a link to a range of wallpapers http://d4rklar.deviantart.com/#/d304bu3 which you can set manually.

All theme files are in opt/usr/share/themes/M4riNa-D4rK.

For the clock read the first post and download the Desktop Clock Widget, the links and files to make it look like mine are attached at the bottom in a .zip ;)

@Kenny1001 take the clock folder with the svgs in it, and put it in your MyDocs/N900 folder.

Then add the clock widget to the desktop, go to settings (the little spanner in the bottom left corner), de-select 'Built in Theme' and select Custom Theme, then select the folder from MyDocs (you'll need to press the folder name on top to select it).

It.s a bug that has to do with one of the font colors (I believe it's the secondary font color). Best people to answer this one is either d-iivil, Andrew black or maybe joppu. Meanwhile, if you want to try to fix this yourself, if you have theme Customizer, edit/tweak the color of the secondary font and see if that does the trick.

EDIT: Yup just tested it and it's the secondary font. I copied the Marina theme one (#3d9cff) and it worked. D4 maybe tweak this one a bit to bring it as close as possible to your liking?

First of all thank you for this great theme and your work. I find one of it's strong points to be that it's very stylish and slick but still remains quite clean and simple, allowing for us users to customize it to be unique to their tastes and without it every begining to look cluttered of inconsistent, as most other themes often do when customized.

I have just one question that I hope you can help me with.

The glowing effect of the home/menu/taskswitcher button that occurs when a notification or sms is received.... Is there a way to make this glow with the colour blue to match the rest of the theme?

Have you rebooted since upgrading?

The icon will need to be 148x94 I'm afraid, and yes there were a few changes in the iconset as well.

The hildon-desktop I've tried to explain as best I can in the first post. It adds smother/faster scrolling in menus, a number of fixes for various bugs, the ability to have up to 9 desktops, and a different task switcher layout (when you have 3 apps open in the background they'll be arranged differently, with larger previews).

To install follow the steps in the first post, and let me know if you get stuck!

Hi all. Been a long time reader on these forums, but this constitutes my second post today (2 posts in total) - this could become habit forming.

This is a great theme/icon pack. Thanx heaps for all the efforts put into this. Had a little fun making small changes to background images and creating my own LockSlider.png. Also appreciate the Business pack you made as every time there is an upgrade, I go into the Business pack and copy the files over I want (images).

May I be so bold as asking for a few icons to added for the next release (or the one after that, or after that, etc);

4. eSpeak
5. eSpeakCaller
The first 2 are probably the important one's for me as they shortcuts on the desktop.

With the easiest way to move/overwrite/look through being via Filebox (with root access and images enabled) directly on your N900.

Hi Kenny1001,

I love this theme, and it's made me delve more into my N900 then I ever have before - A very nice side effect. I've changed the lockslider image several times, and I use the following process;

1. I use OpenSSH on the N900 and WINSCP on my home computer so I can "log" into the N900 easily (pretty sure you have to have root access on the N900, but can't quite remember).
2. Create your image but it does need to be 148x94 (148 wide, 94 high)
3. Get into the following folder - opt/usr/share/themes/M4riNa-D4rK/images/. This is where the "icon" or graphic is located and it's specifically called LockSliderThumb.png. It's not in any of the icon folders, so this is why I call it a graphic rather then an icon.
4. Change the original graphic to LockSliderThumb_Original.png. This way you always have the original that came with the theme.
5. Copy your new graphic into the folder and make sure you call it LockSliderThumb.png. Capitals and everything.
5(a). Make sure the permissions are set correct (CHMOD). I original had it set as R & W for Owner and just R for both Group and Other, but I have now changed it to R,W & X for all three (0777). Don't know if it matters, because when I first copied it across with the original setting it worked fine, so skip this step if it all works fine (this is a good reason to use OpenSSH and WINSCP as it makes it so easy).
6. Reboot the phone and you should be right to go.

I realise that this may seem to be a very noob set of instructions, but this is essentially what I am (a noob). Hope I helped.

Make sure root access, view images and show hidden folders are enabled in the filebox settings. Navigate to your new icon in filebox, hold your finger on it till the menu appears, select copy and the icon will now show up in the clipboard. Go to wherever your icon needs to be, select the clipboard again and press paste, confirm the overwrite and you're done!

I have a folder in my MyDocs with all the personal theme bits I use that differ from the standard, so that at every update I just run through the folder and I'm back to my preferred setup.

Another really useful feature of filebox is the bookmarks folder, you can bookmark, say opt/usr/share/themes/M4riNa-D4rK and get straight from MyDocs to your destination folder in 2 keypresses! ;)

I've attached the LockSliderThumb.png from the theme mate, to get yours to show up you can open theme customizer from your general settings, scroll down and (without changing anything) select 'Apply Changes', that should clear the image cache without you needing a re-boot.

@P I think I exhausted every possible number that wouldn't work... because for some reason every one I try now does!! Sod's law :rolleyes:

@All Dany-69 has been writing a script to make things easier in terms of the installation of pixmaps icons and widget images, it's not ready yet though. As soon as it is you'll know about it!

Either way I've re-done quite a lot of the theme/icons just neatening things up, and the alarm bug is now fixed. I think the next update will probably be aesthetic, with the script to follow in the one after that.

In any drawing program (like gimp, photoshop, paint.NET) open the png of the one I posted, select the whole icon and cut it.
You'll then be left with an empty 148x94 box which you can put any picture you like in (although you might need to make some a bit smaller to fit). Or just make a 148x94 box, and select and cut that so it's transparent ;)


The lockslider background is in opt/usr/share/themes/M4riNa-D4rK/backgrounds and is called lockslider.png,

As a temporary fix copy the one from:

/opt/usr/share/icons/hicolor/scalable/hildon/

I know we can install the Widgets etc. through "Extra Dark" but I planned to edit a few of them and make some personal changes, so would love it if you could upload the Various Widgets file once more.

OK in short to destructure the Media Player Widget you need to make the whole thing transparent, then use Techie's QB media player scripts to make 3 separate Beecons (one for each button) which can then be made any size and placed anywhere on your desktop.

I've put together all the png's you need (even the ones included in my theme for those that don't use it), the paths and everything for the QB widgets, for those I've just exported each of the instances to files.

Copy the QB text files, create a widget, go to the widget settings, then advanced settings, paste the text into the import buffer at the bottom, hit import buffer to Beecon and you should be good to go, although let me know if anyone has any trouble ;)

EDIT: You can also have as many of each button as you want on any desktop, to rotate them just set the orientation of the images in the Beecon settings to 90 degrees.

A light Blur to keep things fluid (as opposed to desaturate which I'm not keen on), larger 2 column task manager and forced rotation.

Hey I've updated my M4rin4 D4rk theme a couple of days ago, but I am unable to use the forced rotation transition feature. Whenever I tilt my phone portrait, the transition does not go into portrait mode.

So I downloaded your zip and manually extracted it into

opt/usr/share/themes/M4rina-D4rk

like you said in your post, but this still hasn't made any changes, I am still unable to go into portrait mode in conversations or anything else.

Please help

Try putting it in usr/share/hildon-desktop, don't forget to reboot after.

Also go to settings -> About Community SSU and make sure you're on version 12.1 or later,

Hey sorry to be a noob but in my settings there is no option for 'About Community SSU'.

Is that an app I have to install for the transitions to work? Since I couldn't find it in App Manager either.

Or is it the custom hildon desktop that you have linked on the first page?

P.S. thanks again for the media player beecons, they are working great for me!

Also, one more thing I would like to know please.

The media player widget displays album art on its top left corner. Is there any way to stop it from doing this? Just so that only the media player app shows album art but the widget does not.

@Pro The Community SSU (or CSSU) is the new operating system update made by members of TMO, which is currently in testing.

The features enabled in the latest CSSU update (portrait mode and all of MohammadAG's mods) are accessed via the transitions.ini.

Unfortunately the media player widget reads the media player, so you've either got album art on both or on neither,

Edit: Ok I've got CSSU installed, no problem at all, the transitions are also working now so thats great too!

But now for some reason all of my icons are appearing alot larger then they were before I installed CSSU, and even though I went into theme customizer and lowered them, it made no difference.

Any solution to getting my icons back to the size they were at before?

You must remove the package "font changer" from applications manager or fapman

ok i've been using the original marina theme (the old one) today and realised that i missed it, and its in some points better than the new d4rk one, for example, its nice to have the icon background highlited in the media player, or when pressing back and exit .
the new d4rk m4rina theme is awesome, adn i think that the marina series is the best .
but i think its a bit odd, i think it would've been better if clicking back/exit from an app changes the back/exit's icon background colour .

No worries, check the following post (a few pages back) and download the business pack that will give you replacement avatars, with which you can overwrite the theme avatars using filebox.

anyway i just want to know how did you get the reflection of the icons under them in your screenshots ? did you just edit the background ?

you know what its not worth it, i change my backgroun every week .
anyway i just installed gimp, and let me guess this is done with the prespective clone tool, i'll try to learn, thanks anyway .

Hi D4rKlar, always use your nice icons pack since the day I found it :-)
but I still hate one icon I have on my favourite desktop : it's the mobile maps 9 icon.
Would be nice if you could also change it like the blue one we can see in pleego remix icons pack for example.

Love the theme, but after i installed it, CSSU Features Configuration stopped working...
It says that the application found a a settings file in the theme folder and it will update system and theme files...
then: reading the configuration settings gave a fatal error and that´s it, it
doesn´t work anymore...

any idea how this could be fixed??

Hello mate, delete the transitions.ini from opt/usr/share/themes/M4riNa-D4rK, that should do it.

hi. and first of all, thank you for a great theme!
i'm having trouble with friendly fm widget and your theme though.. the bluetooth button is placed wrong in the widget when using marina-d4rk theme.. im not sure can you possibly fix it, or is the problem in the widget. elie-7 posted on the friendly fm thread, so i thought i'll ask you :)

Hey again D4rKlar, I was wondering how do you make the status bar appear as it does at the top of this screen?

I would like a portrait "illusion" if you know what I mean, but just on one of my desktop screens.

Is it possible to have the status bar appear as it does in your screenshot for only 1 screen? And have it behave normally (landscape mode) on all other screens?

Also how did you get the icons to be in portrait mode?
