I stopped my N900 last night and this morning when i started it the boot sequence never exceeds the stage of the 5 cycling dots. I searched in the forums but don't found anything about the never ending 5 dots cycling. Then I reflashed with the last fiasco image (first kernel only ,then the rootfs ) but nothing change. I don't want to flash the emmc because I will loose user and mydocs partition. Is there anyway to fix my problem ?

excuse my poor english but please help me.

Does it cycle forever or
does it stop at the second dot?

for the latter this may help:

If you can't get booted, I don't see much choice besides flashiing the eemc in your case. You could try removing your sd card if yiu have one. Make sure your battery is fully charged if you can.

@nicolai
it cycle forever (I leaved it cycle half an hour):(

@geneven:

I don't understand what kind of thing can produce this issue in other partition than the rootfs.
I tried to boot without the flash card and also without the sim card but without success.

Anyway, if you have no other idea I will try to flash eemc and see.

thank you both

Does this happen reproducable? E.g., did you switch it off (with taking out battery) and switch it on again after some minutes?

If you plug the N900 in via USB while turned off it will mount as mass storage, you can then copy what you need to the PC for safe keeping.
Hopefully you have a recent backup you can transfer and then use to restore from once you've flashed the eMMC.

yes it is. I tried anything I thought: push the battery out 20 minutes. put out the flash, put out the sim card. trying to boot with charger , without battery ;)..
Nothing different.

@James_littler:
I tried this, but it doesn't function: in windows xp, I can see the 2 drives mounted as letter but when I try to go into, I receive an error from windows: "Please insert a disk in driv N:" and in this time the nokia is arrived at the cycling dot state.

What you might try then: flash power-kernel with u-boot using flasher on your PC, create a bootable SD card with meego, and try to access filesystems from there. That might work but might as well brick your device completely. Therefore no detailed instructions here. All you need to know you can find in the forum or wiki.

Ok, this n900 have a great problem I think. because I can't flash the emmc.
I can flash the rootfs without -R option but when I want to flash with the Vanilla EMMC image the process is stopped at the message: "Suitable USB device not found, waiting". and the n900 screen (without lighting) show me the 5 dots in filigrane but no more cycling. Perhaps , I miss something in the flashing procedure. I'am not sure of what to do after flashing the rootfs (I don't reboot and I launch the flash command with vanilla image)

I'am thinking that there is a problem with the internal emmc card? :mad:

what are you thiniking ?
