But... is NITDroid site dead?
I was just going to search information to install on N900! :(

I still can't install using autoinstaller, does anybody know what's the problem? Output below:

n14_dev_snapshot.tar.bz2
nitdroid-kernel-2.6.28-07_7-rc7_armel.deb

I have a Nokia N900 with a broken USB connector (2 weeks ago). Now NITDroid (with Android 2.2) boots but the red light blinks, the battery indicator shows it is empty even if it is 100% full, and it turns off in less than 10 seconds.

So : if the USB connector is broken, is it impossible to use NITDroid on Nokia N900 ???

that issue seems to be unrelated with broken usb and i would also like to know the solution for fixing it as i have no intention to reflash my maemo just so i could use crapy android for flash and couple of games...

For all those having issues running the auto installer, you have to remember that it downloads the files from the NITDroid server which is currently being moved. Therefore the installer is not going to be able to download the RootFS needed to install NITDroid.

Place the files manually in /home.userMyDocs/.nitdroid before running the installer and it should install correctly.

If you need the files, they are all here (https://www.dropbox.com/s/5dfotsosz9pdq3y)

Warning kind of a rant ahead!

There are so many errors and mistakes you are making, i do not know where to begin...

First: The folder to use is /home/user/MyDocs/.nitdroid . Always use the full path, unless you are really comfortable with the whole linux file system structure.

Second: Do not work on two systems, like PC and N900, or two tools, like Filebox and X-Terminal applications, to achieve the same goal, unless you are really comfortable with the whole procedure, meaning: Can do the same with manually typed commands.

Third: The file you use must be named N12_UMay.tar.bz2 . If you use some other name, path or command, there will be error messages, that have a meaning. Read them.

If unsure to correct things from here, please delete anything related to nitdroid and start over freshly ;)

thanks for your (ranting) reply ;)
I was lazy typing the whole folder structure out on the board, of course I always used /home/user/MyDocs/ - you are right, that can cause misunderstandings and I will do better from now on.
The files I d/l from http://db.tt/EhRANpVk where automatically extended by windows with additional .tar.gz2.tar.gz2, something I haven't noticed. When I checked with CuteExplorer, show hidden enabled .nitdroid was present and also the files I copied into it with x-terminal.

when booting up now, pressing 3, I get the error message:
"Can't flash kernel, required files not found
Guru Meditation: #00000025.62017712"

Maybe the attributes change will help? How can change the attributes of the files?

mv /home/user/MyDocs/.nitdroid /opt
cd /opt/.nitdroid
chmod a=rwx all files

and then? How to move them back without attributes going back to what they were?

No the attributes are okay! That was the reason for asking for the longer output to verify the rights and permissions.

michaaa62
01-26-2012, 03:05 PM
Nope, not at all!

Did you ever consider doing it manually?
The installer is basically a shell script... running one command after the other may give you the working Nitdroid playgroundcd /home/user/MyDocs/.nitdroid
mkdir -p /and
mount /home /and
cd /and
bzip2 -d /home/user/MyDocs/.nitdroid/N12_UMay.tar.bz2
tar xvf /home/user/MyDocs/.nitdroid/N12_UMay.tar
rm /home/user/MyDocs/.nitdroid/N12_UMay.tar
cp /opt/NITDroid-Installer/FileManager.apk /and/system/app/
cp /and/etc/oc-profile-500-700.conf /and/etc/power.conf
grep -Ev 'heapsize' /and/system/build.prop > /home/user/1
rm /and/system/build.prop
sed '$a\dalvik.vm.heapsize=32m' /home/user/1 > /and/system/build.prop
dpkg -i /home/user/MyDocs/.nitdroid/nitdroid-kernel*.debYou might even create the uninstaller menu item and remove the nitdroid-installer menu item, but this is optionalcat >/usr/share/applications/hildon/nitdroid-uninstaller.desktop << EOF
[Desktop Entry]
Encoding=UTF-8
Version=1.0
Name=NITDroid Un-installer
Comment=Un-installs NITDroid

tar xvf /home/user/MyDocs/.nitdroid/N12_UMay.tar
rm /home/user/MyDocs/.nitdroid/N12_UMay.tar

all fine until here but at this line

USB notification is probably because USB debugging is on (it can be turned off in developer options but I'm not sure if it's needed).

I don't think you can connect to your PC yet, NITDroid is still in development after all.

Check you APN setting, try removing the username and password and re-entering other settings as 3G should work fine.

nitdroid CAN be connected to pc by USB...sometimes...
usb debuging shouldn't have to do anything with his notification always on, that is not normal nitdroid behavior

Actually CAN. Just reboot and after choosing NIT on boot, plug N900 to PC. After startup it'll directly show USB connection. NEVER MISSES.

does nitdroid drain battery faster even in a standby mode??how many days does it stay awake??im sooooooooo curious=)

On my go NIT 2.3.7 drains ~1% per hour. ***** compared to my mate's Incredible S, BUT superb compared to my HTC G1 Dream and even my Window N50GT tablet.
Possibly 'cuz I did optimizations with system apps, used Autostarts to cut startup apps, and use Advanced Task Killer and set it to "kill when screen off"... Anyway, acceptable.
However NIT 4.0.3 drains ~5% per hour and also generates lot of heat, regardless of my opts...
Oops, sorry for mah bad Eng, I'm a Chinese senior high student~

Hey, won't you just use Filebox or WInSCP (on PC) for moving files rather than the effing XTerm? That'll be hell lot easier.

AndyYan

if i boot in android i must always plug my charger??

Nope, depends on your battery charge. once I had full charge under Maemo but NIT blinked red unplugged. I rebooted via keyboard shortcut (fast!) and plugged in and after start it says "Charging 5%" (apparently I was swapping battery) BUT within 5 min it said "CHARGED". Looks like NIT identified the full charge and it worked well after.
Hope helps. I'm a Chinese senior high stu and sry for poor Eng.

hello all, i was considering if install the nitdroid of this thread, following the steps, in order to get umay version installed for using whatsapp, i will ask some questions before starting to install it:
Is this tutorial for emmc?
Is this tutorial "easy" for people like me who dont know much about linux?
Will i be able to install whatsapp after installing nitdroid of this post?
Is there any thing missing in this tutorial that people of this thread fixed in posts but wasnt updated the first post?
Am i in risk if i do this tutorial of being forced to hard reset my mobile?

i did this:
Clean Installing of NITDroid

1. Download the NITDroid Autoinstaller to ./MyDocs i.e. root directory of N900 and install it:

http://talk.maemo.org/attachment.php?attachmentid=22707&d=1316433657

2. Run the NITDroid installer app from your programs list.

but nothing happens when i reset the phone, still is maemo, so i will unistall it and follow your tutorial, do i have to download all those files? or just the first?

michaaa62
01-29-2012, 03:54 PM
I did not ask you to start the nitdroid-installer!!!
Instead execute the code from this forum post http://talk.maemo.org/showpost.php?p=1156173&postcount=4011
The nitdroid-installer does not provide the best results right now, but for this procedure some of the files are essential.

Tygercat
01-29-2012, 04:13 PM
i know u didnt ask me for that, but i did it before reading your post xD

I downloaded the files:

N12_UMay.tar.bz2

nitdroid-kernel-2.6.28-07_7-rc7_armel.deb

NITDroid-Installer_0.2.8-9beta3.deb

So i have to do this:
1. Put those files in the .nitdroid carpet of mydocs
2. copy paste the code of here: http://talk.maemo.org/showpost.php?p=1156173&postcount=4011

Nothing more, right? or i have to download the other files of the link that you gave me?

michaaa62
01-29-2012, 04:22 PM
You need no more files than these!
You need to go to the.nitdroid directory to use the code!
You need to install the nitdroid-installer to get some files to the right places, but do not run it!

And finally use the code from the said post!

Tygercat
01-29-2012, 05:12 PM
i have put the 3 files in .nitdroid folder. I opened x-terminal, wrote sudo gainroot, and cd to .nitdroid folder, but when i start the steps:
mkdir -p /and

nothing happens, and i cant paste all the code at same time...
what is wrong?

edit: wait wait, its working now, it took some minutes till it started to work, can i do all code together? or i have to do it one by one.

In the Linux world "nothing happens" or "no error" means all went well.

You created the Folder /and with this command, check it.

Tygercat
01-29-2012, 05:23 PM
ye wait, its installing things now, can i paste all code?

michaaa62
01-29-2012, 05:29 PM
I do not think the buffer is that large, there are commands that even could take minutes like the bzip2 or the tar commands, you have more control about the whole process by pasting one line after the other.
There is even the slim chance that those commands on some EMMCs cause a sudden reboot and a corrupt file system later on, but that is another issue.

eight
01-29-2012, 05:32 PM
@Tygercat
Every line is one command.

One question before you start. Do you know how to backup and restore your N900? Have you ever flashed a fresh Maemo after something goes wrong (f.e. n900 goes to bootloop)?

Tygercat
01-29-2012, 05:32 PM
well, first of all: i couldnt install the
install the nitdroid-installer package
Code:

sudo gainroot
dpkg -i nitdroid-installer*.deb

i started the steps and here i got stuck cuz it doesnt work:
rm /home/user/MyDocs/.nitdroid/N12_UMay.tar
"cannot remove: nosuch file or directory,
i tried the next step
cp /opt/NITDroid-Installer/FileManager.apk /and/system/app/
but here it says errors were encountered while processing

in this step:
cp /opt/NITDroid-Installer/FileManager.apk /and/system/app/
it says no such file or directory

no i have never flashed the n900 but i got some links in favourites about how to hard reset n900 in case i need it.

If you step back in the code, you also have to get back into the right folder, meaning there was a 'cd' command, so for a restart you have to change back to /home/user/MyDocs/.nitdroid!
You might even have to get some of the files, because there were rm commands and unpack commands that might make things complicated, so cd /home/user/MyDocs/.nitdroid
ls -l .Make sure everything is in place, or re-download.
Then start with installing the installer and follow the code we gave before!

Take your time to avoid errors through hurry, please.

Step by step.

/and # rm /home/user/MyDocs/.nitdroid/N12_UMay.tar
rm: cannot remove '/home/user/MyDocs/.nitdroid/N12_UMay.tar': No such file or directory

Your working directory (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Working_directory) is /and.
rm = remove/delete
error says it: there is no file N12_UMay.tar at this position.

You have NITDroid-Installer_0.2.8-8.deb from first post, which seems to have different folders for installation and that's why you get the error.

Basically you try to execute the latest installer script per hand with an older nitdroid-installer version.

hello guise, sorry to barge in unannounced, I've been trying to install Nitdroid too and I've been following the steps given to tyger so far :P nevertheless I got stuck on the "opt" part too.

I do have the right file though, the error that pops up is the following:

cp: cannot create '/and/system/app/': path does not exist

so... should I create the folder or... ???? or what? :S

Multiboot is missing.
This is from the original nitdroid-installer script:

#External installations
apt-get update
apt-get -y install kernel-power-flasher kernel-power-settings
apt-get -y install bzip2 wget multiboot
apt-get -y install kernel-power-bootimg

I have a got this problem, 'Memory read-only. Cannot write to the device'.

The problem is like i have created partitions, but with wrong block size.

I have the 8GB appln install space eMMC. With that, my partition table appeared to be
Device Boot Start End
/dev/mmcblk0p1 2 688258
/dev/mmcblk0p2 688258 950401
/dev/mmcblk0p3 950402 974977

Instead of usual

Device Boot Start End
/dev/mmcblk0p1 2 884865
/dev/mmcblk0p2 884866 950401
/dev/mmcblk0p3 950402 974977.

So I carried out a partitioning like

n
p
1
First cylinder: 2
Last cylinder: 600000

n
e
First cylinder: 600001
Last cylinder: 688258
n
First cylinder: 600001
Last cylinder: 688258
t

Is there a problem due to this? And i now cannot copy any files into the eMMc or even move within. Shows memory read only or input/output error- when done from xterm.

And also when tried to untar the NITDroid archive, the same result.

Any suggestions friends?

Did you install to some separate partition or to your /home partition, which used to be the default place?
Do you still manage to store file in /home/user, where those applications might have their temporary files?
Watch the space issue carefully with just 8GB for Maemo, Nitdroid and MyDocs altogether on that stick.

You know the procedure ;) :(

edit: sry made alot of posts.

Can you please try to delete those posts, they fragment this already crude thread even further.

Did you install the packages eight asked you to install in this post http://talk.maemo.org/showpost.php?p=1157646&postcount=4064
mmcblk1p2 NOT available Guru meditation #0000000025.62 and some numbersindicate that multiboot is not finding the kernel, might that be that the kernel is missing completely or the multiboot.item is screwed and looks for some wrong place.
Did you install with an external card inserted which is now missing?
Are you still able to boot Maemo? Do you get the multiboot menu, when booting with keyboard ejected?

Please take your time to answer all of the questions to have the relevant information here, for further help.

i didnt install with external card i havent it, i can boot maemo, i have 3 options to boot: nitdroid, maemo with kernel that i used to have, and maemo with kernel from the files that you uploaded to mediafire.
And yes i followed the commands of eight in that post, that was the lst thing i did, which granted me the multiboot option, but selecting nitdroid leads to an error.

okay install it manually and work like a charm, download everything u need, just like N12_Umay.tar.bz2 and the kernel for sure and install multiboot from AM, its there

put everything in ur /home/user/MyDocs
like N12_Umay.tar.bz2
nitdroid kernel

everything ok, you need to install kernel power 1st, and have wget leafpad and filebox

now install the multiboot first
apt-get install multiboot multiboot-kernel-power multiboot kernel-maemo
cd /home/user/MyDocs
bzip2 -d N12_Umay.tar.bz2
cd /home
mkdir /and
cd /
mount /home /and
cd /and
tar xvf /home/user/MyDocs/N12_Umay.tar
dpkg -i /home/user/MyDocs/ur nitdroid kernel.deb
leafpad /etc/multiboot.d/11*
change item device into mmcblk1p2(if u already inserted ur mmc) or mmcblk0p2(if u dont have one)
reboot

its done

Hi
great thread
installed android on my n900 now
and it seems to be working fine
however, i am unable to connect to mobile internet
when i try to add APN under settings, it is just a blank screen and nothing happens
so I tried to connect to wifi
it connects perfectly, however, I cant load any web pages or anything
so im stuck with virtually no way of connecting to the internet
does anyone know how i can solve this issue?

Hi
great thread
installed android on my n900 now
and it seems to be working fine
however, i am unable to connect to mobile internet
when i try to add APN under settings, it is just a blank screen and nothing happens
so I tried to connect to wifi
it connects perfectly, however, I cant load any web pages or anything
so im stuck with virtually no way of connecting to the internet
does anyone know how i can solve this issue?
many thanks

Are you using ICS? If so, that will be why you have problems with WiFi.

APN settings can be added by using the lock switch as stated a few posts ago.

I have a got this problem, 'Memory read-only. Cannot write to the device'.

The problem is like i have created partitions, but with wrong block size.

I have the 8GB appln install space eMMC. With that, my partition table appeared to be
Device Boot Start End
/dev/mmcblk0p1 2 688258
/dev/mmcblk0p2 688258 950401
/dev/mmcblk0p3 950402 974977

Instead of usual

Device Boot Start End
/dev/mmcblk0p1 2 884865
/dev/mmcblk0p2 884866 950401
/dev/mmcblk0p3 950402 974977.

So I carried out a partitioning like

n
p
1
First cylinder: 2
Last cylinder: 600000

n
e
First cylinder: 600001
Last cylinder: 688258
n
First cylinder: 600001
Last cylinder: 688258
t

Is there a problem due to this? And i now cannot copy any files into the eMMc or even move within. Shows memory read only or input/output error- when done from xterm.

And also when tried to untar the NITDroid archive, the same result.

Any suggestions friends?

And following code gives the following results:

root
umount /dev/mmcblk0p1
fsck -a /dev/mmcblk0p1

fsck 1.41.3.maemo0 (12-Oct-2008)
dosfsck 2.11, 12 Mar 2005, FAT32, LFN
Seek to 22552772096:Invalid argument

mounting it back again fails too.

mount /dev/mmcblk0p1 /home/user/MyDocs/
mount: mounting /dev/mmcblk0p1 on /home/user/MyDocs failed!
Device or resource busy

Anyone has an idea what the problem is?

uhm... so... I managed to install the whole thing following the steps... but... uhm, for some reason the option to boot into nitdroid is not on the initial screen of my phone...

now... one thing that I'd like to state is, I used to have nitdroid, but my phone fell on a crash loop and I had to flash it, when I did that the whole nitdroid thing pretty much dissapeared without me uninstalling it... on my first try to get it back, I used the .deb on the first post, and after reading through the thread I managed to follow the steps but it's still missing from the initial screen... :( help?

If NITDroid is installed, download a kernel from Here (http://downloads.nitdroid.com/e-yes/). If you intend to use ICS then you need RC7, otherwise you can use RC4.

Once you have that downloaded to MyDocs, mount your NITDroid partition to /and and then:

dpk -i kernel_name

and it will create the multiboot entry required.

2.3.4 is most stable. I'd recommend mounting your NITDroid partition to /and and untaring 2.3.4 over the top.

Its ammyt that is working on this not me.

At the moment I know nothing about Uboot. I installed it the other day but my one attempt to get it to boot NITdroid failed and I have had no time to look at why.

On the plus side, as I have a new main phone, my N900 is now just my toy so once I have flashed it I will be putting in some effort into working out uBoot :)

sfdisk -c /dev/mmcblk0 5 83
Reboot and apply the file systems again, but make sure those two partition do not contain any data that is valuable for you.

Um... Saw NITDroid dev crevetor's vid: Nitdroid and 2.6.35.9 running on my N900 (with 3D acceleration) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pl8F5sJaGDc)
It's 2.3.7 running on top of ***2.6.35.9.NIT.01+*** kernel. Seems new to me so I did plenty of searches only to find some githubs for compiling (I am totally unaware of compiling progress 'cuz I'm a LINUX NOOB and I don't own a Linux PC) and can't find any installation file for that.
Question is, from the vid it's quite stable, so when will this be released? Or will someone help compiling the hub out to a deb installation for me so I can testdrive? (Just reformatted the device so it's clean for testing)

cc to @ammyt ,
For now the software of NITDroid is almost fully functional on my device, but I'd like to point out some probs related to hardware or not-so-well-written system scripts:
1. Dragging down/up the status bar is VISIBLY more laggy than normal Android devices, even low-end ones. Not just that, most 2D usage and some 3D ones like switching between apps, daily use with live wallpapers, and effects in TouchWiz 3 / 4 launchers (EDIT: Tap Tap 4 opens after establishing an Internet connection BUT gameplay is again VERY laggy and unplayable due to the lack of 2D acceleration, I guess) are all slower than expected. (I thought N900's OMAP3430 CPU can outperform the MSM7227 on most low devices, but when I saw a Galaxy 5 - not S - dragging down and navigating through menus smoothly / my mate's ZTE U880 w/ a Marvell ARM9 CPU playing Tap Tap well I began to doubt... And when I saw Moto's Droid 1 w/ OMAP3430 running TouchWiz 4 smoothly I knew it must be some optimization prob that can be solved)
2. Gravity sensor's directions seem wrong in many apps, like the latest Doodle Jump, SpeedX 3D (gosh that's a favorite of many) and even the system Gallery app. (check these out yourself)
Just will these little (?) probs be solved with further scripts/updates quickly? I don't wish for too much ICS or some new version, just make the current stable version PERFECT first please e-yes!

NITDroid is not ready for day-to-day use, voice calls is not working, accelerometer and hardware acceleration is partially not usable, and stability is not guaranteed. LOOK AT THE FIRST POST, IT SAID "VOICE CALLS STILL UNDER DEVELOPMENT". Read before you try anything / post.
If it's just you can't get out of airplane mode I suggest a reinstallation of NITDroid, and for turning off/on airplane mode, don't do it in Settings app (usually won't succeed), instead on homescreen long press power button, tap the airplane mode option and wait for as long as 20 secs for signals to come.
Hope above helps.

OK, apps that aren't related to voice calls are mostly usable... but that doesn't mean you can use it day-to-day either. For me it's a bit slow in responding, app compatibility is lower than average (for hardware acceleration reasons some apps won't run correctly or just Force Closes), and resistive screen acts like ____ with Android (Maemo 5's fine with that) so to me it's a device for pure "development" (I already have 3 separate devices for calls/web/gaming)
And glad to see someone like me who's not so interested in voice calls working on NITDroid!:p
Switch to Maemo SERIOUSLY takes more than a minute!;) And what if you're being called in urgency? Wanna switch to Maemo for ~2 mins and lose the call? Keke, better fetch yourself a dumbphone!

I have installed N11 last week. Today i wanted to try ICS, so I installed it but I couldn't get passed the "touch the android" screen, no matter what I tried, it kept telling me that the the startup wizard crashed. Not a huge problem, I didn't care a lot. So I removed ICS.
Now, I couldn't boot into power kernel49, the entry was still in multiboot, but it created a reboot loop.
I booted into the default kernel and installed N12. To do that, I had to reinstall the nitdroid installer (v9 beta3) for some reason, although I didn't uninstall it.
Now the problem is that there only the nitdroid entry in multiboot. There's no entry for default kernel, or power 49! and even if I restart with the keyboard closed, multiboot menu is shown.
So, any opinions, any help?

edit: when I press 0 to load default kernel, it gives a guru meditation error.
edit 2: I just reflashed and everything back to normal. So consider this a warning about things that could go wrong.

For the Force Close in Setup Wizard, no it's simply a bug. Just use WinSCP on computer or FileBox or any rooted file manager you want and go delete "SetupWizard.apk" under /home/system/app/. This will simply delete Setup Wizard and a reboot will take you directly to Launcher screen. Enjoy this not-so-fluid(-but-can-be-optimized to me) ICS experience!

hello! wow long time since I got in here! Thanks a lot to Mornage I managed to get nitdroid running on my phone, sorry for going missing for so long, work and stuff.

Now, as I remembered I had to disable pin request in order to go online, the problem now is that for some reason my phone is not connecting to my cellphone provider =/ I remember I had to run some commands when I had it in the past but for some reason I can't find that anywhere now =/ any help?

Also I'm using Umay12, do you guys think I should update it to 14? thanks a lot again!

Disable sim lock in Maemo and try booting NITDroid again. If that fails, I'd try mounting your NITDroid partition to /and and untarring the archive again.

yeah, as panjgoori said above N14 is not stable and nor is it likely to be in the near future. Stick with N12 (although you can try the updated 2.3.7 version) as it's most stable.

If disabling pin lock in Maemo hasn't fixed airplane mode (I presume you have tried to disable airplane mode after pin lock was disabled) try un tarring the archive again.

If however, you have a connection to your network (can receive text messages) but no 3G, you'll just need to add the APN settings.

I tried the autoinstaller beta3 and it worked perfectly! Nitdroid also woked prety good. But, when I exited from nitdroid and try to boot to maemo...maemo doesn't boot. Then a dead loop and so I must reflash the phone.

any suggestions?

note: I used leafpad to change int-card to mmcblk0p2.

this, I don't have airplane mode stuck, it seems to me as if it has no APN seetings, since I can connect to wifi.

now... how do I configure these APN settings? when I enter it shows 3 available cellphone providers in my country, I choose the one I have and it says settings updated, but still no connection, if I enter on access point name, it's completely empty and I have no clue how to create one =/

When into APN settings, use the lock switch to open the menu, you will then be able to add your APN settings.

You'll probably need a google search to find the correct settings for your network and you may have to play around a bit to get it to work, for example, with T-mobile UK you would normally need a user name and password, however on NITDroid it wont work if this is added.

It looks like either the multiboot menu item is incorrect or the kernel is not in the correct place (/root/multiboot (IIRC)). If you can still get into NITDroid, you may be able to check this with terminal or even with a file viewer.

You really didn't need to change the menu item like you did for Maemo as this is created automatically and should work. I'm thinking there may be a typo in the line you changed maybe!?

No I can't get into nitdroid again. Once I exited from nitdroid I can't boot into any OS.

Concerning the multiboot and kernel : shouldn't the autoinstaller do everything by itself?

No, it's not a typo since when int-card was written I couldn't load nitdroid but when I changed it into mmcblk0p2 it worked.

any ideas?

EDIT: is the charger connected when you are booting? There used to be some issues with multiboot where it wouldn't boot correctly when charging. It should have been fixed but it's worth disconnecting from your charger if Maemo isn't booting.

If you can't boot any OS, you are going to need a re-flash. How did you install, SD card or eMMC? If you used the SD card, your mulitboot item for NITDroid would be mmcblk1px if it's eMMC then is should be mmcblk0p5.

The auto installer will create the correct items for Maemo which do not need to be changed.

Sorry for the late reply.

mmcblk0p2 is your 2gig opt partition. I've never filled it so am not sure if it can cause issues booting.

You are best off re-partitioning MyDocs if you feel confident and then use mmcblk0p5 for NITDroid.

One reboot should be enough. Make sure you have the keyboard open though or multiboot will load the last kernel and rootfs used.

For your previous questions:

To find your version you should be able to see this in settings>about phone.

Whether you can see your MyDocs partition depends on the type of install. If you installed on eMMC you will not be able to see it. If you have it on a SD card you will be able to access it as an SD card. You'll probably need a file viewer such as Astro.

Install apps in 3 ways:
* From the market as described above
* Place the APK in /and/system/app when in Maemo and it will install the next time you boot NITDroid (not everything will install this way).
* Use a file viewer and navigate to the place you saved the APK and run it (you'll have to allow installation of non-market apps in settings>security).

Nitdroid is an android port for your N900, an android variant worked out by a team of geniuses (e-yes mainly) who strives to bring a fully functional port to the N900. In other words, if you want to have android running on your device, install Nitdroid.

How is this exactly done?

Hi guys i have nitdroid 2.3.4 installed and it works very well but i have two problems that i would like to know if there is a way to resolve.
The first one is when i receive a sms i only receive the text relative to the size of 1 sms (for example, if the sms is long enough to occupy 2 sms i only get the first part). Is this normal ? Is there any way to get past this ?
Second, i am from Portugal, and as far as i can see the keyboard mapping is for the US layout, is there any way to change the keyboard mapping for the European (or specifically Portuguese) layout even if it has to be manually?
Thanks

yes sms problem is a bug in Nitdroid. you donot receive one msg complete (160 chars). bug which is not resolved till yet trims msgs to 100 chars if i remember. and for keyboard problem there are many keyboards available for Android. best and popular one is Swift key X. a nice looking keyboard but its not free you have to buy it from Android market.

how you optimized ICS. Super User never worked for me in ICS. i also update it to latest version but no help. and can you tell me that did you managed to get root access and if yes then how ?

For optimization I use Autostarts to cut ALMOST ALL app autostart requests (not just when booting, also when e. g. app installation complete), beware that this actually prevents functions from working (e.g. alarms won't work) so cut requests to your own need. Also killing tasks with Advanced Task Killer is necessary.
Rooting? I downloaded latest SU 3.0.7 package and extracted to the appropriate folder and it doesn't work; but when I delete the "su" bin file it worked out fine.
I returned to 2.3.7 BLENDED though, 4.0.3 is too slow in portrait mode...

dont know about the keyboard thing then. but bluetooth is working fine for me. if you can receive files or the device is not searching your N900 then tick discoverable option in bluetooth options in settings. your device will be discoverable for 2 mins.

I would like to see any improvement in actual Nitdroid, even if very minor, that would be better to wait so long between releases.

In my opinion, rather than phone calls, GPS or other big stuff, the focus should be on improving performance and stability of Nitdroid 2.3.7 so it can become the stable release with improved accelerometer support over 2.3.4 and camera working.

I hope that the features added in nitdroid 2.3.7 will be easily ported to ICS, just because, especially with the 4.0.4 that is going to come out, the OS will be more stable and faster like Google anticipated..

If I am not wrong, 3D acceleration already works in ICS..our problem is 2D acceleration (so this is why the UI is slower than Gingerbread)..

About ofono, again if I am not wrong, e-yes has put a more recent version of ofono in ICS but we can't try it yet because when I boot into ICS, even without PIN code, I can't make any calls because the phone remain in offline mode.

Edit: It seems the 4.0.4 roms are based on the LTE release with a GMS compatibility layer so may not be much use to us.

In ICS I can make and receive calls. Obviously with media server crashing the person on the other end can't hear me, but if you have a newer build I will quite happily test it for you. I will stop posting here for a while.

I am converting the whole multiboot NITDroid system to the new DAS Uboot utility, many advantages.

Any advances with uboot yet? Very excited about the possibility :)

INSTALL nitroid kernel 06 final and you will be ok (That solve for me this problems, 07 never works for Me). Also you dont need to flash your phone, just flash only the kernel.
We need an updated kernel that works with some N900 that has this problems, as newer kernels gives kernel panic and now it can't reflash maemo kernel back to start maemo (thats why flashing kernel only solves the problem )

download and install Mx Video player and use software decoder and fast mode. all videos will play fine and smooth. including mkv, avi, flv and almost all type of videos. for flv you need to have install Flash player 11.

Hello,
I have 2.3.4 installed and I'm trying to get Mass storage mode to work but I'm not sure how to do it.
I tried to install RC3 kernel which e-yes said that it supports USB Mass Storage, but nothing is happening when I plug the phone to USB.

If anybody knows of a way to enable Mass Storage please help me, it would be much appreciated.

Many thanks in advance,

That's strange. On mine, kp49 + cssu works well with N12 & RC7.

btw, I manually installed NITDroid on Class10 MicroSD..

Latest "Automatic install" app caused an infinite bootloop. I cant get past the boot loader now... and no, pressing "0" does not go anywhere any further.

This is ridiculous. Now have to reflash it again. Very disappointed in this latest script..

Just flash the kernel from a fiasco image, and your device should be running maemo again!

I have a got this problem, 'Memory read-only. Cannot write to the device'.

The problem is like i have created partitions, but with wrong block size.

I have the 8GB appln install space eMMC. With that, my partition table appeared to be
Device Boot Start End
/dev/mmcblk0p1 2 688258
/dev/mmcblk0p2 688258 950401
/dev/mmcblk0p3 950402 974977

Instead of usual

Device Boot Start End
/dev/mmcblk0p1 2 884865
/dev/mmcblk0p2 884866 950401
/dev/mmcblk0p3 950402 974977.

So I carried out a partitioning like

n
p
1
First cylinder: 2
Last cylinder: 600000

n
e
First cylinder: 600001
Last cylinder: 688258
n
First cylinder: 600001
Last cylinder: 688258
t

Is there a problem due to this? And i now cannot copy any files into the eMMc or even move within. Shows memory read only or input/output error- when done from xterm.

And also when tried to untar the NITDroid archive, the same result.

Any suggestions friends?

how did u solve the issue...i am getting same....than ks in advance...please reply asap

how did u solve the issue...i am getting same....than ks in advance...please reply asapNote: This should all be printed in red, bold letters about any of those so-called HowTos:

Just changing the partition table out of the blue, creates data loss! Every time! So do a backup before that, not complain later!

The OS is not capable of adjusting a different partition table to a now useless file system!
Always apply a fresh file system to the changed geometry of your partitions! That does not fix any data loss issue, but gives you a usable file system to start with.

The most important error is: You can't have start and end of partitions on the same sectorI have the 8GB appln install space eMMC. With that, my partition table appeared to be
Device Boot Start End
/dev/mmcblk0p1 2 688258
/dev/mmcblk0p2 688258 950401
/dev/mmcblk0p3 950402 974977

You might change the partition table to the old scheme, sure, you had made a backup of it before tinkering with it. A reboot would helps the system, hopefully, to make use of all the partitions and file systems again.

Camera HAL for N900 (Gingerbread)
on: February 26, 2012, 02:04:49 am
Camera HAL for n900 has been pushed to gitorious.
https://gitorious.org/android-n900/vendor_nitdroid_n900/trees/gingerbread/libcamera

It's based on V4L2 camera HAL, but adapted a little, coupled with crespo's HAL and as result we have this P.O.S

So if anyone'd interested... welcome to next level:)

Is this new NITDroid-Installer_0.2.8-9beta3.deb installer working correctly?

It should work... Though when I originally tested it(over a month ago) it couldn't find the required files. It turns out the Nitdroid site(where the images and kernel files were kept) was down. It's back online now so it should be okay.

However I recommend installing Nitdroid manually. That's how I did it and it was pretty easy. The best part is you can avoid the many problems that some peeps have been having by doing it step by step instead of running a script and not knowing what it's doing...
Having said that, the script does some useful things like installing a file manager and tweaking the cpu and vm memory...
